You're literally a life savior! I finally managed to recruit Minthara in a good run, and I was going crazy thinking it was one of my mods making Cerys join the fights. Thank you so much!
If you can't use this mod for what ever reason,(like me who cant because script extender no longer works) There are ways to solve CERYS joining your fights without this mod.
Find a way to either knock her out, or kill her.
I used my ranger while solo to use greater invisibility and used a humanoid arrow on her while she was at the INN in act 2 to kill her without aggroing anyone, and then ran away from the inn before the invisibility spell wore off, and took a long rest. Came back to the inn after the long rest and no one was the wiser that it was me who killed her. No more cerys f*#@ing up my combat plans by splitting up my party in the turn order.
If your already in Act 3, then, you'll have to find where shes at in Baldurs gate and knock her out or kill her there.
You can also use her as an Improvised Weapon and carry her outside the Inn so she gets killed by the Shadow Curse. You can fast travel while carrying an NPC this way so I ported to the Reithwin tollhouse waypoint and she went down pretty quickly.
Since not everyone experiences this, I'm curious to what is the reason this happens. Is it a vanilla bug? Does it happen on new games on latest game version? Is it caused by other mods? The sequence of how you do quest? Who you have in your party at any given time?
It never happen to me, but all my 3 playthroughs has been very similar.
From what I've gathered it seems to happen if you save the grove via betraying Minthara outside the gates and knocking her out there. Since Zevlor is involved in that fight I would imagine he gets some tag or something that sets him hostile to her, and it just never gets removed. And since Cerys is the stand-in for Zevlor should he be killed she shares much of the same AI. They'll only join combat if Minthara is involved.
The bug can happen in the vanilla game as Xbox and PS5 users were reporting the issue as well. Reports of the bug date all the way back to release.
Initially I thought it might be a Faction issue so I changed both Minthara and Cerys' factions (separately) and that fixed nothing. If the source of the bug could be identified then I might be able to fix it with a better method, but until then this was my approach.
I have tried, but failed, having Minthara to show up at moonrise towers in three different playthroughs. Somehow messed it up everytime and she never showed up. It is in these playthroughs that I've seen this "bug".
Same bug happened to me when i try this method ("betraying Minthara outside the gates and knocking her out there"), and i got another bug too, i can't interact with her at all after rescuing her in Moonrise, did you know if this bug has a fix too?
@sori86 Is she at your camp but the narrator says something along the lines of needing to smooth things over before she'll talk? Her approval rating is too low. Just give her all your gold in the trade window then you'll get it back once she can rejoin the party.
No, i mean this bug: in Moonrise when Minthara is being tortured by the two true soul if i choose the dialogue option "Reach out for Minthara's mind" and next "Share my strength, and strike the guards down" once we kill the guards and the fight is over i can't interact with her again at all (there is no click option on her), meaning i can't recruit her. It's a weird bug that only happens if i choose attack the guards, which is my preferred option :/
@sori86 Had this bug happen to me too, chose the same dialogue options you did. I read somewhere on reddit that choosing any of the options that aren't just attacking those two torturing her would bug Minthara, so when you interact with them, just choose the attack option. After you kill them, ask Minthara to follow you, don't tell her to wait there. Just deceive the guards when you get questioned. Don't open the gates when you rescue the gnomes and tieflings, destroy the prison walls out back so you take the boat to Last Light Inn with Minthara as your follower. That's what worked for me.
what ezryll said is correct. you could also just disguise minthara to get out through moonrise's front door normally if you don't want to deal with the gnome/tiefling breakout and sneaking her out at the same time. that's what I tend to do. also had this bug for the first time and it's really obnoxious. thankfully only lost about 20 minutes of playtime, but it could've been way worse. I need to start saving more lol.
Just wanna say thank you so much for this! Didn't even know about this bug until I decided to do a run with Minthara recruited after betraying her at the Grove. Was wondering why I kept getting black loading screens during battle and noticed Cerys was in the turn order. Didn't want to kill her as I was unsure if she would affect the Save the Tieflings achievement.

Bless you! She's still there even in Act 3! Go away Cerys, nobody wants you!

Aha! That's why I never got that bug.
I always cleared out the Goblin Camp (Anakin-Sand People-style) to save the Grove.
Your reasoning makes much sense. Thank you.
This mod is a livesaver!
