1. First, make sure you have the BG3 Mod Fixer installed separately - https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/141 (NOTE: apparently Mod Fixer should no longer be used as of Patch 7. This mod still seems to function correctly without it).
2. For this mod, when you open the ZIP file you should see a "Data" folder. Copy that folder and paste it inside your game's installation directory (not the Mods folder in AppData\Local etc., but where the game is actually installed - so something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Baldur's Gate 3, though you may have chosen a different game install directory).
THERE IS ALREADY AN EXISTING DATA FOLDER THERE, DO NOT DELETE IT. YOU ARE PASTING/MERGING THE UNZIPPED FOLDER "ON TOP" OF IT TO PUT THE MODDED FILE IN THE CORRECT LOCATION WITHIN THAT FOLDER.
3. That should be all that's needed for installation; you can check that the mod is working within the game by navigating to the conversation that occurs right before your party ascends the Netherbrain stalk (that's a good point to save/reload as well). If you have the Crown conversation with Gale and attempt a persuasion check, and it comes up as DC20 (instead of DC30, which is what occurs in the vanilla game), then you know the mod is working.
Hi! I was wondering, does this work for Mac? I don't know for sure yet if I've gotten the route where this would be necessary to use, but I'm looking to prevent it from being a worry at all if I can help it. I'd rather not have to replay 30 hours worth of my game from where I am now in my Act 3 romance with Gale just because I messed up part of his complex as hell point system :(
I wish I had more info on this. From some online searching I wasn't able to find confirmation one way or the other as to whether mods of this type work with Mac installations. Also since Patch 7 will be releasing for Mac next month, that might further complicate any installation / functionality. Sorry I don't have this info!
Hi, I was wondering if there are any plans to update this mod to work with Patch 7? I followed the installation instructions but the DC30 Check at the Netherbrain is still a 30, unfortunately.
So it took me a while to test this mod with Patch 7 (since I had to wait for updates to other mods before I could load my save-game again), but it still seems to be working after the update. When I removed the mod from the Game Data folder, there was a DC30 check; when I put the modded file back in, the check was reduced to DC20 and (after beating the Netherbrain) Gale returned the crown to Mystra in the ending/epilogue, etc.
From what I can tell the BG3 Mod Fixer is not necessary for this mod and may actually conflict with Patch 7, so that can be removed. All the other "loose file" mods I had in my Data folder (e.g. hair and face overwrites) still appear in my game normally. I wish I could help you troubleshoot more; from what I can tell so far there should be no inherent conflict between this mod and Patch 7.
First of all, thank you so much for making this mod! I do have a question, though. Would I have to load a save file before I had (and passed) the DC30 check? Or can it be loaded with a saved file AFTER the check?
Hi there, you'll need to load a save file BEFORE the DC30 check at the Netherbrain stalk (which this mod changes to a DC20) - the modded plot flags only take effect and get written into the game's memory with a successful roll, so you'll have to go through the dialogue with Gale to see any difference.
I had lost hope as to how to get Gale's non-godhood ending, since my game somehow made it so that even when I passed the DC check at 30, Gale would break up with me at the ending. This was my first BG3 mod and I have no regrets. You have saved me from having to go back and play through HOURS of gameplay to be able to get the good ending with my Tav Kyra, who loves Gale for the man he is.
I hope both sides of your pillow are always cold, and when you go to a vending machine, you get a bonus snack or drink. THANK YOU!!
Hello, I'm not aware of any conflicts with OIO; I haven't used it before but I did use a similar dialogue mod and didn't notice any problems. I think OIO (and similar mods) modify the localization files rather than the underlying LSF / game logic files like this mod does, but please let me know if you notice any issues!
Hi!! Quick question please, so when I put the "Data" mod file into my game it says "replace" cus I already have a data file, is this safe? Like it won't mess my game or sth?? 😭
Hi there, it should be safe to paste the "Data" folder in your installation directory; it may overlap with existing folders if you have other mods installed, but there is only one actual file in this mod ("END_BrainBattle_Intro.lsf") and I'm not aware of any other mods which use the same file.
If you want to double-check just to be safe, or create the folder structure yourself rather than copying and pasting, the full file path for the modded file should be "[Game Install Directory] / Data / Mods / GustavDev / Story / DialogsBinary / Act3 / Endgame / END_BrainBattle_Intro.lsf."
Leaving this comment as a HUGE THANK YOU to the mod author and to confirm that this does seem to be a bug of sorts especially with the weird way I encountered it. Seriously you kinda saved my first playthrough.
Like many others I was straight flabbergasted when Gale was so aggressive about getting the crown and just effed right off during the end dock scene. My character romanced him, his approval was obviously maxed out, discouraged him from claiming the crown for himself, and encouraged him to just be himself... it was my first playthough, but seemed like the 'right' thing to do. I have no clue where I went wrong when the ending happened. After my game ended I was looking around the internet and troubleshooting in my head all evening to find out what went wrong. I remembered at one point Elminster had come by to wag his finger at Gale and tell him to meet with the goddess at the temple in BG... it was after I got the Karsus book he wanted from Sorcerous Sundries... the thing is I already visited the temple (I had just wandered in there while exploring) and that scene with him meeting the goddess already happened. But with Elminster showing up they both acted like it never happened? So it seems I did some of his personal quest out of order and that may have bugged it? Maybe messing up important dialogue by canceling it out or something? I also found another person a looong reddit thread that seemed to have the same issue. Short of maybe not choosing one specific piece of dialogue that fucked everything, that's my best guess. But if that was the case just WTF?
Anyway this mod helped me get that good ending for my character that I wanted! and I'm just lucky I hard saved just before the final boss battle I very glad that on a whim I decided to see if their was a mod fix for this! As I was about ready to do most of act 3 over and hope for the best! I also appreciate the 20 from 30 check as it let me know the mod was working too.
PS: Don't feel guilty if you are thinking about using this mod to 'cheat' the game... as some of his story seems to be bugged.
I'm glad the mod worked for you! And yeah I find Gale's dialogue path / quest line to be the most confusing and opaque (and buggy) of the various companions. I do think Larian included the end-game DC30 persuasion checks (e.g. the one for Lae'zel post-battle) as a way for players to have the option to "course-correct," but in this case Gale's was/is still bugged. In any case thank you for your comment!
I will say thank you in my way, too. I will leave this here also - so you have a reference to what i mean. There’s therories by now,,that say Gale’s endings aren’t exactly buggy. It is as the mod author says, a labyrinth. I’ll do you one better. It is one with a lot of ways you can end up. There’s even a sneaky human Gale and a sneaky God Gale ending option. That man is smart . You can’t first tell him, the crown is an abomination and then ask him to become gods together. So yea, you kinda have to decide early, which ending you want and thus, which way to go.
I myself got the Waterdeep Professor/ Husband Gale ending because i chased him down the path f forgiveness with this Guide. I didn’t even need a check, when facing the Netherbrain. After the boat scene, the deed was already done. I could tell be the way he talked to Lorroakan. :D
Question: Can I convince gale to go for the crown but download this and still get the option to change his mind at the last minute or do you have to be neutral? I ask this because I want two save files of both god gale and married gale in one playthrough to save me doing two whole runs so I can load any up and smooch him in both XD
If you are already getting Gale's dialogue at the Netherbrain that he intends to use the Crown, and you can navigate to his persuasion check (in your vanilla, un-modded game), then yes you can create two separate save files for two separate endings, one where he chooses to take the crown (without the mod), and the other where he doesn't (with the mod installed). And when you're done with the mod you should be able to delete the modded file without it impacting either of your saves. Good luck with your games!

I hope the above helps!

I still have this mod in my order, for when i decide to try the neutral path and want to avoid the sneaky God Gale ending.
Thanks for this mod. ;)
