Would you be able to fix the subtitle text disappearing when playing the original version of BioShock with a controller?

After having a quick look, this seems to have been a problem with the game for a very long time, out of my capabilities for fixing. I'm not sure if there's anything I can do besides making a couple of suggestions, either play remastered (which isn't actually that bad) Alternatively, try using Steam Input and make the game think you're using a keyboard.

I hope someone might be able to fix it.

I don't usually want to play Remastered anymore because of how some of the effects are kinda borked (Like this one in the beginning; https://youtu.be/DOG_sk8Ws4w?feature=shared&t=99), and the lack of reverb, and I prefer to use the original game's native controller setup rather than tinkering with Steam Input configs. I appreciate your suggestions, though!

I could not get this to work, when I try to load the game with this mod installed, special K local injection (From the crash fix mod that usually works great) gives a warning, entire computer semi freezes (ctrl alt del works and then I have to force a restart cause the operating system completely craps the bed when this bug happens) I as currently cannot make it work, why this happens, I dunno, I am not keen on installing it to try again unless someone has an idea of what went wrong despite me following instructions and using the version for BioShock 2 Remastered (Didnt accidentally use the one for original BioShock 2 port from STEAM) cause it does not bother me that much, but I would like to make it work

You can get a crash log for that mod from what I've seen from looking at the page. There's nothing this mod does on it's own that could be causing your PC to crash like that but Special K definitely could. I will try and have a look myself as I personally haven't used that mod.

Sadly after the incident, eager to figure out how to fix it, and frustrated at not having any idea this was the cause, I wiped everything so I could re-add each mod one at a time, and hope it was not a crucial one, before eliminating all suspects but this one, and forgot to save crash logs before deleting the folder they were in, but frankly until you rework this I can't take the risk, its just too much, until I wiped it out the game trying to start up went wrong, and it semi froze entire PC, so, regrettably the logs I had are gone, I have nothing to share. But you can test it yourself, as I am confident this is the one that caused problems as I tried updated rez packs (didnt work to my desire so that was an ordeal to properly uninstall but I finally managed) and none of that bugged up stuff, it just made it look worse. despite it being installed via TFC, frankly choice between fixing subtitle boxes and dealing with em but ensuring the game works (since crash fix is a requirement for my PC, its not viable otherwise, it begins to crash constantly starting at pauper's drop without it, while I  go crash free with the crash fix to the end of the game.

I've just gone and tested this myself, absolutely no issues whatsoever. Installed the crash fix on a fresh game install first (Manually if that makes any difference) and then installed my mod. No crashes. I've got saves throughout the whole game and none were giving me any trouble, subtitles work as intended. This seems to be an isolated issue with your PC, with the amount of people that have used this over the time period it's been out I believe someone else would have had the same issue as you if my mod was the culprit, plus it is changing very little with the game.

All I've done is remove some of the animation frames from the flash file, the game quite literally doesn't know what's different, you can even remove more frames and the game will still run (Although to what extent I'm not sure, but you could definitely remove a good chunk as long as the game still can see the .swf file is where it should be). What other mods are you using? But to be completely honest there's literally nothing I can rework, it's one file.

Well frankly yours is the odd man out, your mod, most of my other mods don't even mess with core files, simple ini edits or such, the most invasive ones I installed were yours and after getting help, TFC installer for UE 2/3 to use texture up rez stuff and disable head bob, the up rezzed stuff was horrible and ruined the game, didnt really make anything look better and made most of it look worse, so, that was an entire ordeal to uninstall as somehow just STEAM client uninstall failed to fix it, had to check file integrity to have it forcibly reset everything, and to fix your mod here I had to wipe everything, and reinstall the whole game, none of the others caused issues, yet this one did, because the crash fix is a requirement since I was one of the poor sodding SOBs that had constant crashing issues before Author: gir489's Crash Fix for BioShock 2 Remastered released very recently, which fixed all my issues, except when some mods overload it, and yours apparently did, but I lost the logs as I said before so, if you're not gonna make attempts to address potential conflicts with Special K as that is a required mod for many PC users of the game, I just, don't know what to say, I'll just deal with the subtitle boxes that are ugly as sin rather than a game I cannot launch without it soft-locking my entire PC asides ctrl alt delete forced restart

I've just told you this mod works with the crash fix mod, I get in the game fine. This mod and the crash fix don't even touch the same files. Try just using this mod and the crash fix like I did and come back to me, you're also giving me very little information to work with in regards to what other mods you're using. The only thing that would conflict with this would be something that touches either of the HUD flash files.

any chance you would be able to make a mod to remove the weapon pop ups in bioshock 1 and 2 at the top of the screen when switching weapons its so annoying to me. or could you point me in the direction to attempt it myself?

So sorry I only just saw this, for the original or remastered versions? I can try and look into it. Does the GUI fixes pack do this for 1?

[EDIT] Just working for the original for now, will update for 2 & remastered soon
      [EDIT 2] Done!

I know it's a small thing, but man, what a life saver. It would have bothered me the whole game

I got spoiled by the GUI fix pack for Bioshock Remastered which removes the black subtitle box, but there was nothing like that for Bioshock 2 Remastered until your mod, so thanks for that.

Great stuff, this is what I was looking for, since the remastered version crashes a lot I have switched to the original one.
I would be so grateful if you could do the same for the original. Here's the file of the original one: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fuOVYXq_VyrXLDo6X95Uq3OYUTbaia5D/view?usp=drivesdk
    Thanks in advance.

I will look into it. Personally I've only had Remastered crash on me twice I think while the original did not 5 minutes in. Otherwise I would've probably being playing that version.

[EDIT] After much head scratching I've created a version for the original too. Was really confusing me but the original loads from not only the HUDPC.swf but also the HUDRadial.swf (which doesn't really make sense to me but w/e) Will be posting it as an alternate main file shortly! :)
