What do the cutscenes in Bioshock normally look like on 16:10 monitors? |'ve never played on one.
The way this mod works is changing the X-Y coordinates for the black bars from whatever they are to zero. The black bars are actually part of the HUD and they have coordinates telling the game where to place them on the screen. By changing those coordinates to zero it effectively removes them from the screen, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on 16:10 monitors.
To clarify, the mod doesn't actually "do" anything pertaining to 16:9 aspect ratios. It just removes the black bars from the screen. I only put the line about "glorious 16:9 aspect ratio" on the description because I forget that not everyone plays on 16:9 monitors, but ultimately it shouldn't matter what kind of monitor you're playing on, this mod should simply remove the black bars and give you, well, Fullscreen Cutscenes.
Actually I have a small issue using JPEX Free Flash Decomplier where when I pick the file you detail that needs to be edited, and I click transform at the bottom middle, I only get a series of small menus on the right pane that say "Transformation point, Basic, Move, Scale, Rotate" and so on. Not sure where to edit the Horizontal and vertical line you detailed?
The Horizontal/Vertical properties that need changing are in the "Move" and "Scale" sub-menus. On my JPEXS these are already expanded but maybe not on yours? Either way, if you click on them it should expand them and you'll be able to edit them by following the rest of the instructions.
Let us know what it looks like on a 16:10 monitor.
No problem, but Im having a small issue. Trying to change the width and horizontal in the scale sub menu to 0 does not save when I press the button to save it. Like when I press to save after setting both to 0, if I press transform again and look in the scale sub menu, its back to 100 on both.
Yeah, mine does that too. I don't know why. But it is a necessary step. When I attempted to do it without changing the properties of the "Scale" menu it would place both black bars at the bottom, which is obviously not desirable.
It seems to remember the 0 value even though in JPEXS it looks like it resets itself. Like I say, I don't know why, I just got it done through trial and error.
Trying to modify the HUDPC.swf vanilla file to use it with GUI Fix - after opening it in JPEXS it says "Cannot load SWF file: java.lang.StackOverflowError".
Something like that happened to me too, I closed the program and opened it again and I was able to edit, I think it was because I was touching things without knowing what I was touching, just to investigate a little bit xD
Yeah, JPEXS seems a little temperamental at best, I had that happen to me a couple times. Just close the programme and try again and it seems to work eventually.
It also edits the same file as your mod, would it be possible for you to make a compatible version? I guess you would have to take the same file from that mod and put the changes for fullscreen cutscenes in it, or something like that.
Sorry, I already read below that you commented the same thing, I will try personally to edit it, I have contacted the author of the other mod to see if he can include the cutscenes also to his mod, as long as you don't have problems with that, of course.
If the original uses the same .swf Flash files for the HUD graphics then I don't see why the same alterations to the HUDPC.swf file shouldn't result int he same outcome.
The only way I know how to create "compatibility" with that mod would be to modify that mod's HUDPC.swf file itself, which would mean I'd need to get that mod's creator's permission.
That's why I included instructions on how to modify the file yourself. That way you can achieve these results without losing your existing HUD mods. It's not that difficult, honestly. I had no experience with JPEXS when I figured out how to do this. Just follow the instructions and you should be good.
First of all thanks so much for the mod! And secondly I am thankful you wrote the instructions on how to mod the HUD in case we used a prev GUI mod. My only request is that would you ever think to do a mod where we fix the money counter HUD so it will fit 4 digits? I'm looking into the JPEXS but can't seem to find the thing.
The vanilla game has 4 digits for the money counter by default. The 'GUI Fixes' pack reduces this down to 3 because the vanilla game has a money cap of $500, but for those of us that use NewBlood's 'Deep Pockets' mod that "fix" is actually a drawback.
The thing to do would be to open both a vanilla version of the HUDPC.swf file and the version found in the 'GUI Fixes' pack and try to find the sprite (or whatever) that deals with the counter and see what the differences are. It might be a simple case of replacing some X-Y coordinates or it might be something more complicated, I really couldn't say.
Best thing would be to try and contact the creator of 'GUI Fixes' as they would be the best person to make these changes.
Failing that, you could always just forgo the fixes for HUDPC.swf and just use the rest of the .swf files in the 'GUI Fixes' pack so at least you're getting some benefit from it. I know it's not ideal but it's the best I can do at the moment.

Try it. Let us know how it goes.

They think they are artists, good idea of a mod, thanks.

Also thanks again!
