Version 2.0 - The Arm-ament Update

V2.02 (U12.1) Changelog:

  • Fixes issue where turning off the Rail Mount with no armaments on it locks it on the arm
  • Fixes infinite error reports for one of the arm holders
  • Fixes "TK Issue" that was occurring due to the crossbow
  • Fixed "Sliding Issue" when switching armaments while holding a weapon
  • Fixed issues where armaments could disappear while still being equipped
  • Moved all configuration to the new Mod Options menu
  • Added new config options to the mod options menu, including recharge multiplier for Shock Module, Grapple Range and Reel speed for the Grappling Hook, and more
  • Added the ability for "one hand armament control" - while the spell menu is open you can use Trigger on that hand to turn Armaments off, or Grip to switch which armament is active for Rail Mounts

Tools of the Trade is a mod intended to add items from, or inspired by, classic Stealth games such as Thief, Dishonored, and Assassin's Creed, aswell as a variety of gadgets intended for either stealth gameplay.

A portion of these items are "Arm-aments", a framework around arm mounted gadgets such as the Hidden Blade, a Grappling Hook, or an Expandable Shield.

Crossbow:
Spoiler:
Show

The Crossbow can be found in the Dishonored Category, and now works via Ammo Modules.

By Default, it only starts with Normal Bolts, but you can select Modules (also found in the Dishonored Category) for what order, and what type of bolts can be cycled through on the Crossbow. Modules can be loaded at the bottom of the handle of the Crossbow. If you put a module in for a bolt already loaded, it will fill up that bolt type to its maximum.

Press the Alt-Use Button to cycle through Bolts, and the Trigger to fire.

Note: after a loading screen you are required to load the first normal bolt before you're able to fire.

All the bolts are able to pierce through leather, chainmail, and plate armor with ease. There are 3 Bolt Types currently:

Normal: Regular Bolts for killin folk, Default capacity is 40
Sleep Dart: This bolt will knock an enemy out for a period of time. By Default, they'll be knocked out for 30 Seconds, and if they're currently in combat, it'll take 2 seconds to kick in. Default Capacity is 20
Sting Bolt: Creatures shot with this Bolt will be aggressive to everyone for 30 seconds. Default Capacity is 15

Configuration:
You can change the maximum capacity for each Bolt Type in Item_Weapon_Crossbow.json here:

You can also go into Item_Weapon_SleepDart.json and change the Combat Delay and Knockout Time for it here:

Climbing Pick:
Spoiler:
Show

As of 2.0, this item can be stored in the player inventory, with a maximum of 2.
The Climbing Pick can be found in the Gadgets and Storables Category.
While the Blades are closed, it can be used as a bludgeoning weapons that will knockout enemies that aren't currently in combat if you hit them on the head.

To open the blades, tap the Alt-Use button. While the blades are out, you can Hold the Alt-Use Button to make a section of the blades point downwards, perfect as a hook. to close the Blades, just tap Alt-Use.

While the blades are out and is embedded into a Wall such as Wood or Stone, holding the Trigger will lock it in place and make it impossible to pull out, letting go of the trigger will allow you to pull it out again

Configuration:
You can change how long enemies are knocked out from this weapon by going to Item_Weapon_ClimbingPick.json and changing the values here:

Blackjack:
Spoiler:
Show

As of 2.0, this item can be stored in the player inventory, with a maximum of 1.
A classic from the Thief Series, the Blackjack is a weak mace in combat, but if you hit the head of someone while not in combat, they'll be knocked out cold for a long time. It can be found in the TotT Category

Configuration: you can go to Item_Weapon_Blackjack.json and change "KnockOutMinutes" here:

Phantom Bolt Quiver:
Spoiler:
Show

This quiver is to hold ammunition for the Phantom Blade (in the Armament section). it can hold a variety of bolt types and is cycled through by pressing Alt-Use by the quiver when it is holstered. (new ammo types are loaded by placing them at the bottom of the quiver).

Configuration: you can go into the Items/PhantomBladeBolts/ folder and change the ammo maximums for each Bolt type under modules, which will determine how much ammunition is in the holder (I do not recommend editing EmissionColor):

Basic Information:
All arm-aments cannot be removed from that arm, unless the spell menu is open

All the items in this section can be found under the Armament Category in the spawn book. these items are all attached to your arm and are either an Over-arm item (sits on top of your arm), or an Under-arm item (sits on the bottom of your arm). All of these are activated in some part by making a fist (Grip + Trigger), unless stipulated otherwise in their own section.

There also exists a new item called the Rail Mount. This item lets you place an Under-arm item and an Over-arm item on the rails before placing it on your arm. while on your arm, pressing Trigger with your other hand near it will switch between which item on your arm is currently active, and Holding Alt-Use will Turn it On/Off, disabling both (Red Lights on Both Items) or re-enabling the one that was last used (One will turn green).

You can now also use Trigger while the spell menu is open to turn on and off armaments, Or Grip with the rail mount to switch what armament is toggled on

Note: You need to place the attachments onto the rail mount first, and then place the rail mount on your arm.

For 2.0, all new Hidden Blades can pierce on activate (the original still cannot).

Hidden Blade:
Spoiler:
Show

(Under-arm)

To activate them, make a fist. To make the blades go back in, let go as if you were letting go of a weapon. The Blades won't activate if you're casting a spell, holding a weapon, or holding something via Telekinesis.

If you don't want the Hidden Blade to come out when you're making a fist, you can move your other hand to the wrist mounted section and press Trigger, if the Light is red, it's off. If it's Green, it's on.

The Hidden Blade can pierce through Leather and Chainmail with ease, but might require a bit of force to get through Plate.

Pirate Blade:
Spoiler:
Show

(Under-arm)

This blade functions the same as the Hidden Blade, except it can also pierce on activate, and is a bit longer than other Hidden Blades.

Hidden Dagger:
Spoiler:
Show

(Under-arm)

This Hidden Blade has a special function. once it's activated (Grip+Trigger), pressing Alt-Use will switch it to a reverse grip. pressing Alt-Use will revert it back to the standard Hidden Blade style

Phantom Blade:
Spoiler:
Show

(Under-arm)
While this weapon has a green light, it's in hidden blade mode. while unactivated, double tapping trigger will switch it to blue, which means it's in arm crossbow form. while Crossbow form is active, pulling trigger again will launch a loaded bolt. to load a bolt, grab a phantom bolt and place it over where it would sit. (you can even do this with one hand). Double tapping trigger again will switch it back to Blade mode.

If you'd like to unload a bolt from the Phantom Blade, activate crossbow mode and then press Alt-Use.

If the infinite bolts Mod Option is on, it will automatically re-load another bolt of the same type you just fired (if you unload it and load it with a different bolt, it will start reloading that type instead).

Note that aiming is tricky and will likely require practice.

Shock Module:
Spoiler:
Show

(Under-arm)
This item has two main functions: if you grab an enemy and press trigger, you'll give them an electric shock, and if they aren't in combat, will knock them out for a minute. (This expends 20% charge)

Or, if you make a fist it'll activate lightning whips like the Staff imbue which will drain charge over time

This item recharges over time when not in use

Grappling Hook:
Spoiler:
Show

(Over-arm)
When you make a fist with this item, it will attempt to find something suitable to grapple to in the direction of your fist. If it does, The rope will come out, otherwise nothing will happen.

Once connected, pressing and holding trigger will make the line retract. Or, if you press and hold Alt-Use, it will extend the line.
Letting go of grip will release the grapple

(It cannot grapple enemies or items, this functionality may be included in future)

Expandable Shield:
Spoiler:
Show

(Over-arm)
When you make a fist (Grip+Trigger), The shield will expand over the back of your hand. releasing grip will reset it back to its dormant state.

Hookblade:
Spoiler:
Show

(Under-arm)
While this weapon has a green light, it's in hidden blade mode. while unactivated, double tapping trigger will switch it to blue, which means it's in Hook mode.

Known Issues:
  • Bolts bounce off enemies at extreme close range (due to the way BaS Physics deal with projectiles, but you can be fairly close to enemies before this happens)

Special Thanks:
  • EmClear for making many of the new models for the 2.0 update
  • RuneOracle for helping me with the code for the Shock Module
  • Milacetious for making the Hookblade
