You right because an only goes before vowels "N" isn't a vowel therefore "a npc" should be perfectly valid. Idk if the vowel rule applies with pronunciation though. That might change the situation

You could say it's "an" when saying npc but realistically it's "a" even if "a npc" sounds wrong, because of the actual meaning of npc.
