    This game was causing me struggles to hit 40fps, even when other more demanding games breeze away with ultra settings at 120 or higher on my machine.  This mod allowed me an 8-12fps increase and it's definitely smoother playing.  I don't know why this game causes my machine to struggle so much.  Seeing many reports that others are experiencing it as well.  Try this mod if you're experiencing slowness or stuttering.  It just may be what helps you for now until the devs release a patch.

    I can confirm it works on the Steam Deck. I can't exactly tell  by how much because the game is capped at 30fps. But I've been able to increase the render scale. And change the render from XeSS to TSR that was a significant drop before.

    Edit: playing with this settings on the deck is quite decent:

    Good job!

    LITTLE MOD REVIEW

    TL;DR - Yes, this mod helped me improve ingame performance, reduce stutter and make the game more playable.

    Longstory:

    I've tested this mod in the area I had most performance issues, forgotten battlefield. Without the mod, I just barely had 60 fps in roaming mode and it would often drop to 45-50 fps in combat. Most other areas in the game I had always roughly 60fps in combat, but with terrible stuttering.

    After I tested the game with the mod, I always had atleast stable 60fps in most areas, whilst being in combat, with the exception of forgotten battlefield, where I was at just at 55-60 fps, but the stuttering was very minimal.

    DISCLAIMER: This mod won't work miracles, if you play on a potato, but it helps by a lot. With the exception of one area in the game, my stuttering was at an all time low and I probably wouldn't have noticed any stuttering at all, if my AMD Software didn't tell me there was some.

    I want to mention that the reason I have technical issues with this game is because of a lack in CPU power, that doesn't match the recommended requirements, it's not a GPU problem for me. So perhaps your experience with this mod could turn out even better.

    Do not care too much about the people in the comments who says this mod does not work. Give it a try and... if it works it works.

    I tend to be very skeptical of these types of mods, but omg this actually works! I was already getting a stable 60 fps but when I use a reshade I dropped in the fifties with tons of stutters. This mods fixes it! Thank you so much, I will try your oblivion mod once I am done with this game

    Can this be used in conjunction with ClairObscurFix? That mod has cutscene framerate adjustments and sharpening controls, both of which are valuable modifications.

      Yes, of course.

      If you hang on the start screen, deleting .upipelinecache and .ushaderprecache files located in %LocalAppData%\Sandfall\Saved
      should solve the issue.

      You can read about it here: https://github.com/Lyall/ClairObscurFix/issues/11#issuecomment-2843485844

    Another placebo UE fix stutter mod lmao. These next stop appearing when a UE game comes out.

    Like I said: Placebo.

      It's not a placebo, lol. Have you even bothered to read other people's comments...

      If you followed the instructions, the mod works.
      If you haven't noticed improvement(s), try testing it in other spots/scenarios in the game.

      Peace out.

    Any idea to as to the following behaviour? No other mods, reshades or whatnots. Pure base game and this mod.

    Example FPS numbers:
    1) Start and load save without mod, FPS is 53.
    2) Add mod, start and load save, FPS is 62.
       x) Directly reload the same save I just loaded, FPS is 53 as if the mod stopped working.

    Thanks!

      The mod takes effect as soon as you start the game; it can't be stopped. :D Something's changed in the game's background, probably related to graphics or environment. It may also happen without any mods, just like in Oblivion Remastered when you're reloading the same save. That's "normal".

      The game crashes with and without any mods. You could try deleting DirectX cache, recompiling shaders and/or rolling back to older nvidia drivers (if that's your GPU).

    It works really well! Just a problem for the boost version when you get in dark areas (shadows) Your screen immidiately turns black like the brightness does all the way down and you cant see anything

      Yep. Lumen Global Illumination is disabled in the BOOST mod - the main source of fps gains. I had to change Skylight intensity,
      because some areas like the Manor would look overbright: https://i.imgur.com/jT6mH66.png

      Read the changelog (for BOOST) on the mod's description page.

    I dont have Rivatuner to limit FPS like you recommended. Can i use ingame limit FPS instead, does it reduce performance or sth?

      Yes, of course you can.

      That's just a recommendation from my experience in the last 6+ years, since the games started to be "broken".
      Sometimes the game limiter doesn't limit properly - for example, a 60fps cap would occasionally go to 58-59-61-62fps for whatever reason. RivaTuner limiter doesn't do that. And it works wonders in many games.

      Nope. You could've read it in the description (twice):

      -It's incompatible with other optimization/performance/tweaks mods. So don't combine them.

      -You should not use other .pak or .ini files for performance tweaks/improvements, etc. Just to avoid any overrides and side effects.
      You're fine with using other types of mods. (it doesn't matter if they're done through .pak or .ini files, but what they do)

      Well hmm. Is there a log somewhere of what all is changed to make this work? I wanna increase draw distance and a few other various settings but if I am understanding correctly, this pak file is just going to overwrite the ini file I need to make these changes or vesa versa.

      It's the other way around - the user's Engine.ini commands will overwrite this mod.

      Well I wanna get rid of ray tracing and global illumination by adding these to an ini file. If I add just these lines to an Engine.ini file , it will make your mod no longer work?

      [SystemSettings] r.DynamicGlobalIlluminationMethod=0
      r.Reflections=0
      r.ReflectionMethod=0
      r.Lumen.TranslucencyReflections=0
      r.Lumen.Reflections=0
      r.Lumen=0
      r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.Allow=0
      r.Lumen.GlobalIllumination=0
      r.Lumen.ScreenProbeGather=0
      r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.Allow=0

      Some of those commands won't do anything because they don't exist.

      r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.Allow=0 will give you the major fps boost, you don't need to touch anything else.

      Btw, that command is already set in my BOOST mod.
      So, in the first place, you could've tried it instead of the BASE mod. :)

      Interesting. Yeah I usually spend a few days tweaking before I ever play a game on PC. That is kinda why I ask what exactly you are changing in your pak file so I can compare to other mods and see if I even need them or what settings I can tweak. I will try your boost version and compare captures.

    This mod seems to introduce some kind of startup delay to get to the main menu for some reason. Right after all of the logos, it just sits on a screen of rose petals floating around for a solid couple minutes before the main menu shows up. Removing this specific mod makes it pop up immediately as normal.

    It seems to work fine afterward, reducing fan noise considerably with no noticeable graphical disturbance, so I just walk away and do a couple things before I start playing. I just found that effect somewhat weird.

      Interesting. I assumed that sticky only applied to people using the ClairObscurFix mod as well. But that definitely fixed it. Thanks!

      For what it's worth, that github issue is either private or deleted, as it just comes up as a 404 error.

    Hey I downloaded this mod because I was experiencing lag in both the skill QTEs and dodge/parry windows.

    Normally I'm able to get through the first half of Sprong's HP without lag but after that point the lag sets in and it's persists even if I restart the game or my computer.

    Any way to tell if the mod is working properly? I followed the instructions on where to download the pak file to, the only thing I can think of doing wrong is that the folder I named mods doesn't have the ~ at the beginning because the system doesn't let me use special characters.

      That's the vanilla game issue, then. Try testing in other spots/scenarios in the game.

      If you followed the instructions, the mod works.
      Essentially, it doesn't matter if the folder is named ~mods or mods. The game will read every .pak in Sandfall\Content\Paks (and subfolders).

    Just downloaded the mod. In my latest save I'm at the camp and talking to companions. I'm having the issue with white-ish hair that other have mentioned. I saw the changelog, but I don't know what I'm supposed to do with that. It looks really bad and breaks the immersion for me :(

    I do have the UE5 global illumination fix for ROG Ally [https://rogallylife.com/2024/10/20/global-illumination-unreal-engine-5-bug/], though. I wonder if there's a problem between that and your mod.

      Yep, that's a price for a 30+fps improvement (Lumen Global Illumination is disabled) in the BOOST mod. :) It is what it is.
