This Dragon unpacking and packing archive program did not start for me, it hung at startup. The specified version or any other does not matter, it does not work. But it turned out that it is not even needed. This game recognizes files in the folder as is, after simply copying all to the "Game" folder.
if anyone else is having issues, you can rename the "Data" folder to "CondemnedX.Arch00" and put it in the "Game" folder. This is because windows treats the ARCH00 files as folders. Then just add the line "Game\CondemnedX.Arch00" to the "default.archcfg" file.
And don't forget to remove buggy *.dds textures that are displayed as solid black on TV, mirror, helicopter blades, etc. The list is in the BUGS section, there is only one topic and two of my comments as a solution.
Another tip, you can increase FOV if you add this line - "FovY" "100.00" to the file autoexec.cfg which can be useful if you use ReShade and a preset that imitates a BODY CAM effect, because you may like a wider view like I do when things and weapons aren't pulled too close to your face, like this:
It works completely if you disable antialiasing in the menu, because otherwise depth of DX buffer will not be recognized by ReShade and you will not see shading from "PPFX_SSDO.fx" effect.
On another note, are you using the widescreen fix and directinput fix in tandem with reshade? All 3 have d3d9 or dinput dlls that conflict with each other and it seems you can only use one or the other.
No, I didn't use "Widescreen Fix" because it breaks aspect ratio. The health bar and part of journal in the right bottom part are not visible because of PerfectPerspective and two FishEye's effects are enabled in the ReShade. And yes, I copied "dinput8.dll" file from mod called "DirectInputFpsFix v1.0" to the root folder, simply because it was about optimization, so that's why i don't have any problem with standart "d3d9.dll" from ReShade. If you still need it, check your personal messages, I wrote you in detail how everything works and where you can get my final version of Body Cam.
The directinput fix is already included in the widescreen fix. To make Reshade work together with the widescreenfix just copy all the Reshade files to the scripts directory and rename Reshade's d3d9.dll to d3d9.asi.
I followed your instructions but, the reshade UI doesn't seem to pop up in game at all. it's like it's not registering it. I put all the reshade files in the scripts folder and renamed reshade's d3d9.dll file to .asi
Working Version as of 2024 for me - Game Installation with 'Condemned Criminal Origins\Game' Folder Structure.
To simplify: All you are doing is extracting existing Game Files from an existing '.Arch00'-File within the Game's directory to a new folder and Adding to those/overwrite these files with the downloaded HD Mod Files, renaming the created folder and removing the existing '.Arch00' file.
Had to experiment a little bit until I found a working version for me. Hope this might help some of you:
Download and Run the '4GB Patch' by NTCore: [ LINK: https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371 ] > Select 'Condemned.exe' in your game's directory and execute Patch.
Download 'Dragon Unpacker 5.6.2 ( Had issues with other version hence THIS one ): [ LINK: https://sourceforge.net/projects/dragonunpacker/files/Dragon%20UnPACKer/Stable%20releases/5.6.2%20Exedra-Chac/dup562exedrachac.7z/download ]
Create a 'New Folder' in 'Condemned - Criminal Origins\Game'.
Open the 'CondemnedA.Arch00' file in 'Condemned - Criminal Origins\Game' with Dragon Unpacker 5.6.2: > Extract ALL into 'Condemned - Criminal Origins\Game\New Folder'.
Download the HD Textures Mod [ LINK: https://www.nexusmods.com/condemnedcriminalorigins/mods/1?tab=files ] and Extract all to 'Condemned - Criminal Origins\Game\New Folder'. OVERWRITE ALL existing Files.
OK guys, I found the solution to anyone having trouble installing this upscaled HD Textures !!!!! LONG STORY SHORT:
DO NOT touch the CondemnedA.Arch00 File: Do not unpack it into a folder, do not add files to it and repack it, nothing!
Create a folder named CondemnedX.Arch00 and place it in the same "Game" directory of theCondemnedA.Arch00 and CondemnedL.Arch00 files so that you will have in that Game folder the A and L "files" and the X Folder.
Place the content of the Zipped HD Textures Mod (folders: global and m01-->08) inside the new CondemnedX.Arch00 folder
Open the default.archcfg file (this one is in the "main" folder, not the "game" folder") with a notepad. You will see that it only contains two lines which are the names of the A and L Arch00 files. Well, you guessed right, add a third line with the name of the new X Arch00 folder (CondemnedX.Arch00).
Run the 4th GB patch (just in case the game has problems with loading more than 4 GB of textures since it was not originally designed for it)
SHORT STORY LONG:After losing hours and hours obsessively (I'm one of those that simply doesn't give up until I reach my objectives) because I refused to enjoy this masterpiece in any other way than the best, I finally stumbled into German post (if anyone tells you learning languages is worthless, well, answer them they will one day and help you play a game in upscaled textures :-) ) where a guy was giving a solution for different problem (missing audios for non-English gameplay) and it was very anomalous how he, instead of instructing the readers to “substitute“ the missing pile into the CondemnedA.Arch00 unpacked file, was instead telling them to “create a new folder“ (X) and add the the file there and in a subfolder that respected the correct folder structure of the A Arch00 file. That led me to think... wait a second, this means that if the game finds the "same" file in two separate ARCH00 files (or folders) it will always give priority to the "last" one he finds in the last ARCH00 file/folder he reads and that it reads the Arch00 files/folders in alphabetical order. I’m gonna try this! and bingo! it worked!thanks to the Modder !!! This masterpiece of game is no 10 times better! oh my god I can't wait to start the campaign. I hope you will also be so nice to help all of us by telling us what you mean when you say that you did not was not able to “include the normal maps“ in you HD mod, to tell us what exactly normal normal maps are (for the non expert like me) and most importantly what we are missing until you upload the a 15 GB of normal Maps (please please please please please).Thank you for this fantastic MOD!.
Dude thank you so much for this, works perfectly! One thing I had an issue with was moving the A and L files into the new X folder, it gave me some error. I moved them back out of the X folder into the default "Game" directory, and only kept the new files in the zip folder and it works. Just incase anyone else has this issue when following the instructions.
wrong information, doesn't work. I believe that you have imagined that this works, but for those who do not feel like spending hours explaining what the problem is, I will briefly describe that it does not work.
You are a legend sir! I was about to use the unpacker application and felt like I was about to corrupt everything and have to re install, thank you so much
It's not too much work, it's super easy. You open a file in notepad and you put Game\CondemnedX.Arch00 as the 4th entry. There's only 3 other things in the file. Then you make a folder with the name CondemnedX.Arch00, put that folder in another folder, and drag 6 Gb worth of downloaded files in there. There's like 3 steps here. It was more work to install the game LOL
Doesn't seem to work anymore, I've tried the method in the description as well as the ones I've seen here in the comments but no matter what I do the game does not recognize the renamed folder, any ideas?
Hi, I finished the level 2 and the game always crashes on the level 3 loading screen. I try compatibility mode on my game executable to "Disable full screen optimization" but it did not works, the game wont even launch. When I replace the modded CondemnedA.Arch00 file with the original one it works perfectly. I play on steam so I followed the arfarfarf22 guide to install it. Any tips to play the rest of the game with this mod ? Is there another way to install it because I find the texture very well reworked. Thanks :)
Edit : I've tried all the solutions in this thread and none of them work. I will play the game with the original textures.
Allow me to post some clear instructions for the Steam version of the game. This is mostly what Painshadow (thanks btw) said, but I attempted to make it as obvious as possible for people that might still be confused.
Things you need ahead of time: Download this mod Dragon unpacker 5.6.2 - https://sourceforge.net/projects/dragonunpacker/files/Dragon%20UnPACKer/Stable%20releases/5.6.2%20Exedra-Chac/ 7zip (windows support for zips fail when extracting the mod) 4GB Patch by NTCore - https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371 Optional (DX input fix to fix the frame rate.) https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/789-directinput-fps-fix/
*Note that your steam app folder can vary. I have posted the default location*
* Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Condemned Criminal Origins\Game and create a new folder. You can just leave the name as 'New folder' for now. We are going to use this folder to combine the stock textures with the mod.
* Open Dragon unpacker and open C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Condemned Criminal Origins\Game\CondemnedA.Arch00
* In the left hand pane of Dragon unpacker, select the top most folder (CondemnedA.Arch00) and right click and select Extract all. Chose to extract the files to the 'New folder' you just created. This process will take several minutes.
* Open the mod .zip with an archive utility that is not the one built into windows (I used 7z) and open the Data folder. Extract the contents (several directories) into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Condemned Criminal Origins\Game\New folder. Select yes to all to override.
* Rename C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Condemned Criminal Origins\Game\CondemnedA.Arch00 to CondemnedA.Arch00.bak. After you confirmed the mod is working you can safely delete this file later.
* Rename C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Condemned Criminal Origins\Game\New folder to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Condemned Criminal Origins\Game\CondemnedA.Arch00. This will ensure the game loads the new better looking textures.
* Run 4gb_patch.exe and have it patch C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Condemned Criminal Origins\Condemned.exe. I am actually not 100% sure if this step is even needed, but I am just following what the mod author said to do. Painshadow does not mention it so I am unsure.
* (Optional to fix frame rate) copy dinput8.dll to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Condemned Criminal Origins.
* The mod author mentioned losing all the key bindings when doing this. This did not happen to me.
Hope this helps everyone in the future. It is nice having the frame rate restored and much better looking textures.
When I clicked "Extract-sub directories" and choose new folder the program doesn't stop responding but instead I can still click everything and the new folder has a bunch of empty folders inside of it. What is the problem?
Maybe try the advice above rather than the main page? You would be clicking 'Extract all' rather than 'extract -sub directories'. Do this by right clicking on the root folder.(The highest one on the left-hand panel, with the unpacker)
I ran into the empty folder problem with Dragon Unpacker version 5.70, but once I switched to version 5.62 it gave me the option to "Extract all" and now it's working.
Thanks for the detailed instructions, I too thought that the provided instructions were a bit confuse, so I was trying to piece it all together, you saved me a lot of time.
I used this exact instructions+ the missing files fix and (ultra)widescreen fix in this link https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1593741074
I haven't tested for more than a few minutes, but it looks like it's all good.
Thanks to "Ridiculous Death" (the Author) as well. It's really way better to play like this.
@SouthboundSoul I was stupid. I created new folder with the unpacked folders and files right on the root of Condemned, instead of placing it under "Game" folder, the same folder where CondemnedL.Arch00 file was. Now it works
A hint to anyone with BLACK SCREEN WITH MOUSE AND AUDIO:
1. ArcheNoah.exe is better than Dragon Unpacker to extract the Arch00 file, not only because there is no doubt about which version works (latest always works) but also because ArcheNoah allows to "repack it after modifications", or more precisely to "add files and folders directly in the Arch00" and then "save Arch00".
2. To those experiencing the "Black Screen with Mouse and Audio": I'm stuck here.
SYMPTOMS: The game loads and "plays" but with a black screen (just mouse pointer shown). I can hear the game menu music, game menu clicks, I can load latest save (memorized the menu actions: 3 times "arrow up", 1 Click for load menu, 1 Click for load latest save) and I can hear the Avatar walk, attack, jump, etc... but all with a black screen...
HINTS FOR A SOLUTION: I tried every combination of the Arch00 file/folder: Original Arch00 as a file: WORKS (obviously) Original Arch00 as a folder: BLACK SCREEN Modded Arch00 as a folder: BLACK SCREEN Modded Arch00 as a file (thanks to ArcheNoah.exe) BLACK SCREEN
Just so you know: I'm using the Steam PC version using "Parallels Desktop" to play it on a Mac (only way for us Mac Users).
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED BY ME ANYONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM!!!
ESPECIALLY IF ANYWONE COULD UPLOAD THE "MODDED ARCH00 AS A FILE" (I know, it's 15GB) FOR US TO DOWNLOAD!!! THANKS
Run This file below as stated below. For steam version, it will not run without it. AFAIK, there's no way to make Windows not see it as a folder. This method is broken.
Why the f*#@ does the steam version have to be so hard to mod
Any chance you know the solution?
