I wanted to achieve, what I believe many of you are trying to as well, is keeping the pocket radio on during combat, but mute the combat tracks that either mute or drain out your radio. My simple fix is this mod, plus the mod "SFX Toggle (Mute Sounds and Combat Music)" by MisterChedda. Essentially this mod ensures the pocket radio stays on, while the other (within the Mod Settings menu) allows you to toggle Combat & Stealth music. I've tested it in about 8 or 9 missions now. Works flawlessly. Sorry if this post is a slight mess as I am terrible at writing. Hope it helps. (:
I wish this mod could get updated for 2.2+, since it's currently inconsistent when interacting with combat music. Something strange I've observed is that on one save file, the radio still gets muted during combat, but on another save it works as intended/desired. I have music volume set to 0, yet the radio still gets ducked on the first save. I... don't know how to test/debug this, so my only hope is to ask the developer to update the mod, as I'd rather not have to play around with other mods that flat out remove the music altogether. Sometimes I wanna listen to just the radio and sometimes I wanna listen to just the game soundtrack, so both being easily accessible would be great.
edit - 2/5/25: I just noticed that when I got into combat while in a vehicle with the radio on, the radio now stays active during combat whenever. This is a strange interaction, but I hope this may assist in updating/troubleshooting the mod.
The "No Combat Music" submod doesn't work with 2.2. I spent hours testing it with a clean CET 1.34.1 install, playing around with different AudioSystem overrides, to see if I could get it to work, and none of them did. I don't know if the game changed the way it handles combat music, and the submod used to work in older versions, but as far as I could tell RegisterPreventionHeatStage isn't even called and even overriding HandleCombatMix doesn't do anything. Those aren't the only things I tried, but I'm not going to list everything and eventually I just gave up on the effort as a bad job.
And a note about testing, for anyone who doubts me about it not working: it's important to have a control, i.e. a save file where you can reliably get the combat music to start. It doesn't start immediately when you enter combat, so if you just install the submod, get into a fight and observe that the combat music doesn't start, that doesn't mean it works. You have to observe that the combat music doesn't start in a scenario where you have reliably been able to get it to start before.
Anyway, my goal was simply to be able to listen to the pocket radio in combat, and I don't care about the particular way that's accomplished. So I searched and found two other mods.
Firstly, Mute Music When Radio is On by yakuzadeso. The way this works is it automatically changes "Music Volume" in the game settings, which has the effect of muting combat music. However, when the combat music starts, even if it's not audible it also mutes the pocket radio, so while this functions, the effect of it is that partway through fights the pocket radio becomes muted, and then it unmutes once the fight ends.
Secondly, Mute Combat and Stealth Music by hgyi56. That mod hasn't been updated in quite a while so I wasn't very hopeful. The way it works is by replacing the audio files for the various combat/stealth music assets with a 30ms long silent wav. You might expect that this would produce the same outcome as Mute Music When Radio is On, with the silent wav playing on a loop causing the pocket radio to be muted. By to my great surprise, not only did the mod function without issues in v2.2, it also had exactly the behavior I wanted. I infer that with this mod when the game "starts" combat music the 30ms silent wav is "played" and immediately ends in one or two frames. Presumably during those frames the game starts muting the pocket radio, but I never noticed it happening, and once it finishes the game doesn't immediately recue the combat music to play again.
I've since played for 10 hours or so with Mute Combat and Stealth music and fought many battles to an uninterrupted serenade of Samayoeru mama yuke, so I can say with confidence that it works. And a note about installing that mod: install the "Legacy" versions, they function perfectly in v2.2 and are no different than the Redmod versions except for not needing Redmod.
Not working in 2.21? Not tested before 2.21, but the radio mutes during combat, i think it works partially since i think it stays on when arriving to areas/mission where it previously muted the radio
EDIT: I just quit the game, reloaded a previous save, and the radio is working as intended. Music stays on while walking around. Station MAY matter, however, so will test some more
OMG the madlad actually did it and did it fast, forget i said anything, i'll be forever grateful. Mod authors from old mods rarely answer requests these days, so ty very much!
For me on 2.2 it works sometimes, but other times my radioport still pauses during dialogs and combat.
Haven't been able to find any more useful information in logs.
EDIT: I have been able to verify that scanning also silences the pocket radio. Entering scanner you will still hear it, but as soon as you start scanning any object the radio pauses.
Besides that, it's pausing in combat pretty regularly for me.
I'm surprised that by now there still isn't a single mod that addresses the issue where the audio of EVERYTHING goes really really quiet, the moment you center on a hackable object in scanner mode.
To be clear: 1) When you go into scanner mode, the sound of the game world decreases by a little bit. 2) In scanner mode, once you center over a hackable object, the sound of the game world decreases massively, almost to the point of silence.
I don't think that is a bug. Time slows down to a complete halt when you center on a hackable object. Because time isn't moving anymore, there is no sound. There are some mods that stop time dilation while scanning but I haven't tried any of them. You could test if that "fixes" your issue.
Edit: nevermind, also happens when moving while scanning.

Tried everything on Nexus can't get it to work...
