"We don't fear death. What's to be afraid of? Santa Muerte is a good friend, our close companion. We know how to talk to her and we know when there's no more room to negotiate."

Background
The Relic revives V a few times in the story, why not more often?
When Jackie had the relic, he had only one thought in mind - survive. He prayed to the Santa Muerte as he was making his escape with V. The Relic picked up on the intensity of his thoughts and found what was missing in Araska's attempt at immortality.
Jackie's belief in the Santa Muerte was the missing piece in the Relic's programming.
When the Relic revived V, it was more than just nanites merging the construct with V's psyche. It was Jackie's gift to V. Immortality.
They say help from the Santa Muerte comes at a heavy price.
That price is the choice for survival between V and Johnny,
How does it work?
The mod uses the Second Heart effect with new rules.
It is not necessary to install the Second Heart cyberware to use the mod (read below).
I believe getting resurrections should be a core mechanic by default since the Relic saved V's life initially.
- The Relic now gives V a limited number of resurrections for the whole game
- The maximum number of resurrections is based on the player's level, cyberware level, % relic progress and gets a bonus from certain quest facts related to Jackie (mostly actions at Jackie's funeral and Misty's tarot reading for now.)
- Obviously - resurrections will only work after the Heist is completed.
A Mod Settings configuration gives you customization options
- A master switch to pause the effect if needed
- A slider to augment or reduce the default number of resurrections
- A checkbox for infinite resurrections
- Installing the Second Heart cyberware also unlocked infinite resurrections
- An optional warning message about "Relic protocol activated" with count and max
Blackouts
Blackouts happen when a randomly picked Skip Time amount is over 1/4 of the maximum Skip Time set in the menu.
Teleports on Black Out
There is a chance V will wake up in a different location after a blackout.
When that happens, the Skip Time amount is increased between 6 and 12 hours to account for transportation time.
Multiple teleport destinations are supported:
- Night City main hospital (front and back entrance)
- A nearby Ripper Doc based on the district you are in when you die.
- Detours - these can be cool or creepy destinations, also picked based on your district of death. Some locations are friendly.. some, not so much. I threw in some surprises too.
Left for dead and robbed
- Version 2024-04-13 added an optional Hardcore mode where V will be robbed after a teleport to an unsafe location.
- NOTE: Use this mode wisely. After teleporting to an unsafe location, V will wake up robbed from most of item in the inventory. There is a safety for quest related items and items that are tagged as not removable, but that's about it. There is NO way to recover lost items.. that includes your Iconic or carefully crafted items.
Night City is a harsh place.. you can expect a corpse to be picked clean by bottom feeder very quickly.
Compatibility
This mod expands on the Second Heart fix. I contacted the author for permission to fully include his fixes. Hopefully I will be able to add them to this one.
Both mods edit the same part of the code, so they are not compatible.
If you want only a fix for vanilla Second Heart, use Second Heart fix.
If you want system to avoid stupid deaths and keep getting back up and into the fight, use Santa Muerte.
Dark Future - Urban Survival Gameplay: There is currently a bug where, after a resurrection, all of your needs values are set to -1.
If that happens, try to save and reload the game. That should clear up the issue until I come up with a patch.
CyberRogue - I haven't tried it myself but it looks like a good complement to Santa Muerte for moments where you actually die (before the Heist or if you get killed while driving).
Safeguards
The mod comes with safeguards to avoid interfering with critical quests.
Resurrection is disabled (you just die) when:
- V is driving a vehicle, swimming, or is in any situation when teleport is usually disabled (like in the middle of a scene).
- V is falling down great distances (there is a menu option to disable that check)
- V is impersonating Johnny (there is a menu option to disable that check)
Teleports on resurrection are disabled when:
- V is driving a vehicle, swimming, or is in any situation when teleport is usually disabled (like in the middle of a scene).
- V is in critical quests in Dogtown (intro, stadium with SoMi and in the Cynosure bunker)
- V is impersonating Johnny
Note: if you start a new game in Phantom Liberty mode (starts just outside the church in Pacifica), you will not be able to teleport on resurrection until after you make contact with Reed using the payphone.

Future plans
- Add more interesting teleport locations
- Add an option for black out, "left for dead" / robbed effects with some items missing
- Permadeath add-on - I spent a lot of time trying to make that work but I reached a dead end. Open to suggestions on how to delete save files silently (no UI involved) in a way compatible with Redscript.
