- Broad AMD Optimization: Settings balanced for performance and quality across modern AMD GPUs (RX 6000, RX 7000, & RX 9000 series).
- Standard RT Focus: Optimizes Ray Traced Reflections, Ambient Occlusion, Global Illumination (RT Lighting Medium/High), and Shadows for better playability.
- Performance First (for RT): Employs techniques like explicit Half-Resolution Tracing for demanding effects β critical for providing significant FPS gains on AMD hardware, especially RDNA 2.
- Balanced Quality: Aims to retain good visual impact from RT effects while reducing the biggest performance bottlenecks on Radeon cards.
- Optimized Ray Distances: Uses moderate tracing radii to manage GPU workload efficiently across generations.
- VRAM Aware: Includes slightly increased RT memory buffers potentially beneficial for cards with 16GB+ VRAM, with clear notes for users on lower-VRAM cards (common on RDNA 2 mid-range) to reduce these for stability.
- Includes RTXDI Toggle: Enables NVIDIA's Real-Time Direct Illumination (works via DX12) for improved local light sources (performance impact should be tested by user on their specific card/driver).
- Path Tracing Ready (Highly Experimental): Includes relevant Path Tracing settings, but requires manual tweaking (BounceNumber=1) for any chance of acceptable performance in RT: Overdrive mode, especially on RDNA 2/3. This preset does NOT optimize specifically for Path Tracing by default.
- Primary: Users with AMD Radeon RX 6000 series (RDNA 2), RX 7000 series (RDNA 3), or RX 9000 series (RDNA 4) GPUs.
- Target Scenario: Enabling Standard Ray Tracing features at resolutions like 1080p (RDNA 2) / 1440p (RDNA 3/4).
- FSR Absolutely Crucial: Using AMD FidelityFXβ’ Super Resolution (FSR - Quality or Balanced recommended depending on resolution/GPU tier) is essential to achieve target framerates with RT enabled. Lower-end RDNA 2 or higher resolutions will necessitate FSR Balanced or Performance.
- Enable RT In-Game: You MUST enable desired Ray Tracing features (Reflections, Lighting, Shadows, AO) in Cyberpunk 2077's graphics menu for these INI settings to function!
- FSR is Key: Enable FSR in the game settings for the necessary performance uplift.
- Path Tracing (RT Overdrive): This mode is extremely taxing on all current hardware, particularly non-NVIDIA cards. Use requires manual edits (BounceNumber=1) and likely still results in low FPS, especially on RDNA 2/3. Manage expectations!
- Architecture Differences: While optimized as a baseline, expect RDNA 2 cards to achieve lower RT framerates than RDNA 3/4 with the same settings. Further reducing TracingRadius or SampleCount might be needed on RX 6000 series cards.
- (Crucial!) Backup: Find your game's INI location and backup any existing there.
- Download: Get the Radeon_Raytracing_Refined.ini file.
- Extract: If needed, extract the .ini file.
- Place ONE File: Copy the single Radeon_Raytracing_Refined.ini file into your Cyberpunk 2077 config folder (e.g., ...\Cyberpunk 2077\engine\config\platform\pc\ or a CET config folder).
- Set In-Game: Launch Cyberpunk 2077, go to Graphics Settings, enable the desired Ray Tracing effects and enable FSR (Quality/Balanced generally recommended).
- Play! Enjoy smoother Ray Tracing!
- Go to where you placed the .ini file.
- Delete Radeon_Raytracing_Refined.ini.
- (Optional) Restore original backups.
- This mod aims for better RT performance on AMD, not miracles. Expect FPS lower than pure rasterization.
- Results vary greatly based on your GPU (e.g., 6700 XT vs 7800 XT vs 7900 XTX vs hypothetical 9070 XT), CPU, RAM, resolution, and FSR settings.
- If Unstable (Check VRAM): Users with <=12GB VRAM (common on RDNA 2 mid-range like 6700XT) MUST edit the INI and reduce GeometryUpdateBufferSizeMB (try 128/64) and ScratchBufferSizeMB (try 64/32). 16GB+ cards should generally be fine with the preset values.
- RTXDI Impact: Test the performance impact of [Developer/FeatureToggles] RTXDI = true. If it causes noticeable FPS loss, set it to false. RDNA 2 might see a larger hit than RDNA 3/4.
- Further FPS (especially RDNA 2): Lowering TracingRadiusReflections/TracingRadius (e.g., to 100), ensuring Half-Res options (EnableHalfResolutionTracing = 1) are active, or using FSR Balanced/Performance mode are primary ways to gain frames.
- Path Tracing Performance: RT: Overdrive mode remains largely unplayable on most AMD cards without significant manual tweaks and visual compromises.
- Visual Quality Trade-offs: Uses optimized settings (especially half-res tracing) that sacrifice some visual fidelity for significant performance gains necessary on Radeon hardware.
- Driver/Game Updates: Future driver or game patches could alter performance or setting behavior.
- Game Version: Tested primarily on Cyberpunk 2077 v[Your Tested Version].
- Conflicts: Will conflict with other mods providing comprehensive graphics/RT .ini files. Choose only one.
- Generally Compatible: With mods not touching these specific RT INI settings.
- Report issues or feedback in the POSTS or BUGS section on Nexus Mods. Please mention your GPU model (e.g., RX 6800 XT, RX 7900 XT), driver version, and game version.
- Confirm installation steps and appropriate in-game settings (RT enabled, FSR enabled).
