    Version 4.20 released December 25, 2023!

    Major update!

For RTD 4.20, I completely re-did the settings for in-game density presets for improved experience. Crowd & traffic density for various city zones has also been extensively rebalanced. Additionally, efforts were to made to increase pedestrian density while driving while still managing performance.

"Low" and "Medium" in-game density settings are optimized for the best overall experience! "High" density is only recommended for very high-end CPUs.

A reminder that the in-game Crowd Density setting has been moved to the "Graphics" tab since Game Version 2.0!

    To Install:
Extract contents of .zip to your Cyberpunk 2077 base directory.
You should end up with ./archive/pc/mod/RealisticTrafficDensity.archive

    To Uninstall base mod:
    Game Versions 1.2x-2.1x -> Delete \archive\pc\mod\RealisticTrafficDensity.archive or RealisticTrafficDensity-Extreme.archive
    Game Versions 1.0x-1.1x -> Delete \archive\pc\patch\basegame_RealisticTrafficDensity.archive or basegame_RealisticTrafficDensity-Extreme.archive

    To remove .ini tweaks
    delete "RTD[Crowd].ini", "RTD[Traffic].ini", and "RTD[Vehicle].ini" from \engine\config\platform\pc

Thank you to everyone who has posted performance / experience / visual impressions!

     > Common Known Issues PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING <

    • General performance & stability issues <- We are pushing the game engine and our PCs extra hard with mods like this. I have done fairly extensive testing for RTD v.4.20 but I make no guarantees. If performance & stability are especially horrible for you, try lowering in-game crowd density.

    • Traffic vehicles will sometimes get stuck <- This is a known basegame issue, not directly caused by mod
    • Traffic patterns may be buggy <- This is a known basegame issue, not directly caused by mod
    • Mizutani Shion drivers will honk their horns constantly <- This is an issue that came up in game version 2.1, I do not believe it is directly caused by this mod
    • Vortex does not like the v.2.0 and v.4.x packages due to the included .ini tweaks <- I recommend a manual install- if you have issues with Vortex, try the workaround posted in the comments or disable Vortex RedMod conversion
    • There remains unexpectedly high traffic in parts of the Badlands (especially in Jackson Plains, Red Peaks, and parts of Rocky Ridge area) <- Turns out fixing this will require more extensive changes to the Community System

    • Badlands have excessive 2D Vehicle sprites in the distance <- May or may not be easily solvable considering how the 2D LODs seem to work

    • 2D Vehicle LODs and 3D Vehicle LODs don't match up at transition between LOD levels <- Not Easily Fixable as 3D and 2D Communities are separate
    • Gap between 3D and 2D Pedestrian LOD zones <- Looking into fix for future update
    • 2D Vehicle LODs may be blurred in the distance <- I've made some attempts to fix this but it's a somewhat difficult issue
    • In some locations such as Lizzie's Bar, Crowd NPCs may flicker, A-Pose, or appear without clothing or hair <- Result of Game Engine limitations and high CPU load

    • In rare cases, Traffic Vehicles may launch into the air, explode, spawn upside down, or vanish leaving debris on road <- This Game Engine does not like very high Crowd and Traffic Densities.
    • If framerate drops very low, fewer traffic & pedestrians will spawn than expected <- The Game Engine is giving up. Reduce crowd density in game settings or upgrade CPU

    > Mods that are Incompatible with RTD (they change the same settings, may break one or both mods) <

    "Custom Crowd Density"
    "DeckTraffic"
    "Half Crowd Densities"
"High Medium And Low Custom Crowd Density Optimization"
"Improved Traffic_NPCs Draw Distance and density"
    "Lower Crowd Density While Driving"
"Next-Gen Crowd Distance LOD and Density 2022"
    "No More Tricks"
    "No Reduced Crowds While Driving"
"No Reduced Crowds While Driving and Plus 50 Percent Densities"
"Optimized Custom Crowd and Traffic Density"
    "Plus 50 Percent Crowd Densities"
"Stupid High Traffic (With Lowered Crowd Density"
    "Superpopulation"

    > RTD is compatible with the "CDPR's Astonishing Crowd Density" configfile unlock and contains edits to the hidden preset!

    > "ini tweak" type mods ARE COMPATIBLE with the core RTD mod but I recommend deleting the [RTD] .ini files from /engine/config/platform/pc or checking for conflicts yourself on a case-by-case basis <

    > RTD is compatible with appearance mods such as "Crowd E3 2018 Restored"

    > I DO NOT RECOMMEND INSTALLING WITH VORTEX! A MANUAL INSTALL IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! <

Big Update! RTD 4.20 is out and better than ever!

    >>> I recommend "Medium" or "Low" in-game Crowd Density for best performance and overall experience! <<<

    >>> If you were previously using RTD Extreme Edition, I recommend trying "High" and "Astonishing" densities in RTD 4.20 as the new version is closer to Extreme Edition in some ways. <<<

I'm running quite an old cpu (i5-4460) and while i had to lower the density from normal vanilla to low RTD, it's so much better, everywhere, obviously fps are tanking to 30 in some places of the city but i kinda was expecting it, anyway great mod

Hi! Will the mod work together with NC Ambient NPC?

Yes, but delete the [RTD] .ini files from /engine/config/platform/pc to avoid conflicts

Hello! Please tell me if this mod is compatible with Hide Distant 2D Cars?

Yes, but that mod will have to be before RTD in the load order otherwise the high-rez 2D Cars in RTD may override that mod (I haven't checked how that mod works exactly, but load it first to be safe)
  9. uninstalling the mod manually caused my archive to be corrupted and i cant start cyberpunk. i deleted the archive and engine contents of this mod while adding ccxl hairs and started the game, so it must be this. any tips?
    1. just did a clean install and after adding the basic mods, the problem stil persists, so it was not this mod.

    Hello,
I have an issue but I am not sure if it's related to this mod or if it's the game itself which is bugged. Basically there is a portion of the  map, namely North Oak, then the area surrounding that big traffic roundabout in Japantown and the roads leading to the movie studios, where neither cars nor pedestrians spawn. It is completely deserted. If I see some traffic or pedestrians going in that direction from an area where everything works as intended, they just despawn as soon as I move the camera away from them... At first I thought it was some quest trigger causing it, but I just played the mission Play it safe which happens to  be nearby and afterwards the streets are still empty...

Any help would be appreciated. :)

edit: I removed this mod but it still happens... wonder what that is...

Hey there, apologies for the late reply! Thank you very much... It is as I suspected then. :D

And also, thank you so much for this mod of course, it is definitely a must-have! I love it!

So, I started a new playthrough, and as soon as I was free to move around I checked that area... Well, everything works as expected. Traffic, pedestrians, all there. There must be something triggering this behaviour at some point during the game... Unfortunately I don't know what exactly. :/

The extreme version seems way more optimized with big densitys at medium rather than the main file at high. Took me while to figure that out but great mod nonetheless!

Hi. Want to ask a question. How does this differ from No More Tricks

RTD changes more stuff to add more traffic to various areas of the city and has some extras like minor traffic speed adjustments and high-rez distant 2D vehicle sprites.

So it covers No More Tricsk, but with more scope?

Will this conflict with Night City Alive

RTD shouldn't directly conflict with that mod

Yeah, thanks. :) Asked this question when I just started modding CP77. I understand the technical details a little bit better now.
