  • Adlib Sounblaster and YM2413 aka OPLL.

    The Ad-Lib card came out first in 1987. but at its core was really the Yamaha YM3812 FM synthesis chip.
    Sound Blaster came out next in 1989, which also featured the same Yamaha YM3812 chip.
    Pretty much every subsequent sound card either included this chip or internally emulated this chip for backwards compatibility.
    In fact, it is possible the computer you are using right now, still emulates that chip either deep down in software or hardware,
    This chip had nine voices and they can be programmed independently to create whatever kind of sound you wanted.
    So the Ad-Lib card would play nine voices at same time and you could modify things like waveform, modulation, attack, decay, for individual voices.

  • Soundblaster Soundtrack Overhaul Mod

    Experience Daggerfall as if you have a soundblaster card installed in your pc. This is how it would have sounded like when in 90s people installed soundblaster cards on your pc for playing dos games.

    I hope I have helped quite a few to get the best retro sound possible without owing an actual hardware. For the adventurers among you, there is another soundtrack overhaul mod available here "NES Soundtrack Overhaul Mod" that is inferior to this mod but is based on Famicom (japanese nes) system sound chips.
