I really don’t think creating mod tools from scratch and revolutionizing dark souls modding solely for this project counts as milking for money. Mods of this scale take many years to develop.
Apparently the project hasn't been abandoned, although the lack of activity anywhere else, and the sporadic nature of these updates, is strange indeed.
Then again, this already happened a couple of times, don't hold your breath, it might very well be that we're still months if not years away from release, if it ever does.
Another dead mod project, don't believe the lies from the developer, it's just to rake in $ support, they literally couldn't care less about the project anymore, how many years since last update..3?
Why not make a version that only ports the mechanics (gameplay, items, armor...) without the map changes? Release it as a separate mod so people know it's a thing they can play now. This way people can actually play the full game with the mod instead of waiting decades for it to be finished. You can give the new items, weapons, armor to merchants to make it easier to port.
It would completely break the balance of the game, and I doubt they have the time to implement something like that, since neither of the three main developers have talked about this mod in more than half a year at this point, but sure, why not, it's better than leaving the concept there to rot till the end of eternity.
I mean, I guess that technically somebody else could reverse engineer the gameplay elements from the Demo and add them into vanilla, but I'm not sure if people that are (theoretically) still working on this project would be cool with it though.
It's been like what? Almost four years since this mod was first announced, and three since this demo came out? I'm going to say that Nightfall is indeed probably very dead, but who knows really.
I personally stopped being all that thrilled about it ever since I've heard they wanted to sideline magic because it was "too powerful in the base game" Instead of finding a way to incorporate it in some other way, but it is a shame all the same, I'll get all the Dark Souls content I can get, mods or not, especially considering that ever since DS3 From games really don't scratch that itch for me anymore, they've all became so stale to a point that the only real new things they can come up with now are ever so slightly speeding up the pace of their games every new iteration, regardless of how limited your movement might be, beefing up health bars, nerfing everything and as a result turning their games into a roll spamming slog with intermittent gameplay segments, it's mind-boggling how well they got away with it for so long, thank God that Elden Ring's DLC was received lukewarmly and rightly caught some slack for the frankly overbearing leniency to right up flanderization of those type of gameplay elements, hopefully a change of direction is coming sooner rather than later, I don't want to imagine a world where Dark Souls 6 or Elden Ring 3 are thing and every other Boss is yet another iteration of either Melenia, Nameless King or Orphan, I'd prefer for them to double down on complexity rather than speed going forward.
no hate at all, as i love the game, but that was the most stereotypical ds2 supremacist post i have read in a long time lol. once again no shade it was read so stereotypical it was cartoonish. noon98 talking bout magic being sidelined, ds3 era games not scratching that itch, pacing being too fast, shading the single greatest dlc to ever be released, and then the doomerism of Malenia, nameless, orphan. i truly get it, but it was like he went through a checklist for a ds2 scholar hating stan.
I really don't know where you picked up the fact that I hated Scholar, but It's quite the opposite in fact (Even if I'll admit some things could have been done better, and it does feel somewhat rushed at points, at least IMHO), magic is still bonkers in that game, even if it falls off in NG+ and beyond (But that's a whole different can of worms).
Regardless, the reason why I think that these games are not doing it for me anymore is that From seemingly forgot that Gameplay and Bosses need to ride figuratively on the same line, unlike say in Bloodborne or Sekiro's case, which is something I never really could say about DS3 and ER for the aforementioned reasons I listed in my previous comment, I'm afraid that the old roll spam of Demon's and Dark Souls of old doesn't cut it anymore against exponentially more complex enemies that can clear literal football fields in a heart beat (I think deep down they knew as well since we all saw what happened to Consort Radhan), In fact I believe that more than unsubstantiated "doomerism", taking things to the absolute extreme has already become just a state of fact.
As far as that ER DLC being "the greatest DLC to ever be released" (That made me chuckle hard dude, ngl), I really beg to differ, but I don't think you really want to read an overly long comment explaining in granular detail why I think that Shadow Of The Erdrtee falls short in almost everything it was trying to accomplish, I mean, while not God awful by any means, the fact alone that it had mixed reviews on steam for such a long time really should speak volumes on how "great" it truly was.
At the end of the day, I feel that this discussion can boil down to what your ideal From Soul Like is supposed to prioritize and play like tbh, what I'm going to say is that I sincerely do feel increasingly estranged by these new From games; Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and to a certain extent DS2 and Sekiro were great in their own right, but I liked them all for different reasons, I didn't need, or want for that matter, to see them congealed into some fan serviced bastardization of all of them, I'm happy to be proven wrong, but it seems to me they're steadily running out of ideas.
To be honest I've always been more excited about the future of DS3 Archthrones than this. And I agree, I don't think grimrukh plans to continue this. Some people here fighting over SotET, I'd have to say it wasn't bad, it wasn't the second coming either. In some ways worse than base game in terms of empty spaces, irrelevant treasure/rewards and some even worse bosses (Gaius, Yellow Hippo, Radhan, Rellana, list goes on....) even though Archthrones was way overtuned, it got me more excited than anything released recently.
Honestly, if they can dial down those Bosses a tad bit, cut some of those health bars down by 15/20% and making spells, weapons and equipment (I.e. Poise) actually worth a damn, I can easily see Archthrones being unironically better than vanilla DS3 and ER, and I've gotta agree, I'm honestly more excited for AT more than whatever the hell that new battle royale rouge-lite game they've copied and pasted every single other game of theirs from, sidenote, but this was literally exactly the kinda stuff I was afraid it was going to inevitably happen to Fromsoftware in the end, but I sure did not expect to be so on point, I mean, Nameless King was in that trailer they showed at the game awards... taken straight out of DS3... 1:1.
Do you ever feel like life has a strange sense of humor sometimes?
Wanted to say told ya so, but honestly, does that really even matter? It really brings me no joy seeing a company I once admired churning in slop to keep shareholders happy.
Since I recently revisited Nightfall and due to the fact that it's pretty unlikely they're ever going to update, or ever release the full thing for that matter, I'm going to post this comment as a downgrade "tutorial" for people that are still interested in playing the demo, keep in mind that this only will work for the Steam version of DSR (I believe that GoG lets you rollback directly from the game config menu, not sure about other stores though).
Open your Start menu (Or alternatively, press the Windows key)
Type Run in the search box.
Open the Run program, then type: steam://open/console and press OK (Be sure to have Steam actually opened).
If done correctly a Steam tab called Console should pop up, now type: download_depot 570940 570943 2107856317364082295 in the console prompt.
Once the exe downloads, a file path should show you where Steam downloaded the file (It should be something among the lines of Steam\steamapps\content\app_570940\depot_570943).
Now copy the file path where Steam downloaded your DSR exe into your file explorer to find it.
At this point, just copy and paste the newly downloaded exe in DSR's directory and let windows overwrite the old one (If you're unsure where that is, right click on Dark Souls Remastered in Steam library, go to manage and then click on browse local files).
If done correctly, you should be able to launch Nighfall with no issues.
Any update on this mod? Any sort of ETA on the progress, or is there a site you make updates about it other than here? Would be interested to follow the progress of this mod. Really looking forward to playing the full version
Ok everyone, with the new update the game is crashing and not booting. This is a common error that has something to do with the server update. It is not on the user end, be strong friends hopefully the mod will release in our lifetime
Wish this would be flagged on the nexus mod page by the mod creators though. How would I know this doesn't work anymore without having to dig into every community post.
Can't wait for the release though this does look promising... I'm not even being sarcastic
whenever you go to install a mod the FIRST thing you have to do even before downloading it is to check the community posts and comments. A lot of popoular mods don't work anymore or got issues that can be fixed etc and you need to know it before

It's not healthy or productive to be playing and beating the exact same video game over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
Trust me I know.

for everyone wondering the dev HAS provided an update although i really think it should be put in the description
