I've been working on a mod that's a little less ambitious than this one, but I have used a lot of stuff from here to get PtDE looking effects. It feels a little weird to upload a mod using assets from another mod that was uploaded by someone different from the original person who made it, who I don't even know how to get into contact with since I don't have a Twitter account.
From the description here it's probably fine, but I'd feel a lot better getting an okay from somebody anyway. I don't want to start modding by being a problem.
Actually, nevermind. I've been messing around with this long enough that I can just import the PtDE sfx myself at this point. Well, at least slowly one at a time. There are over 1300 of them in the CommonEffects file alone, so I won't be doing all of them any time soon, but for a select few effects that I think change the vibe of the game for the worse I can manage on my own at this point.
Great to have the original sfx back! there seems to be some brightness issues though, and the fog walls look quite flat in comparison to the ones in ptde
Is this mod still being worked on? if so would it be possible to fix the fire fx? i was testing them on the hellkite drake and the fire particles aren't there its just a red glow. Can this be fixed?
I have one question: Could you (or anyone who knows) tell me the filename for the "stamina regen bonus" effect (something like s01052.dds)? That's the one you get from equipping Grass Crest Shield, Cloranthy Ring etc. I am trying to use this mod alongside yours, and it does disable the Wolf Ring effect, but not the Stamina effect, because apparently the filename is different in your FRPG_SfxBnd_CommonEffects.ffxbnd.dcx compared to the stock DSR one. A workaround is to equip the Wolf Ring all the time, since that effect has priority over the Stamina regen, but sometimes I need that ring slot for something else. :)
Dark Souls 1 PvP Overhaul and Prepare to Die Edition SFX may be incompatible. Both contain a replacement for FRPG_SfxBnd_CommonEffects.ffxbnd.dcx which is the file that contains most of the sfxs. I think that's where the problem is coming from.
Late answer, but this mod and PVP overhaul are actually compatible! All you need to do is extract the files from this mod not into "DARK SOULS REMASTERED/sfx" as usual, but into "DARK SOULS REMASTERED/overhaul", the folder of the PVP overhaul mod. I think the PVP overhaul mod has some internal logic to overwrite all sfx files if it has them, but you can actually overwrite FRPG_SfxBnd_CommonEffects.ffxbnd.dcx with the one from this mod and PVP overhaul will still work without problems.
I was confused by the mod's name saying SFX, which stands for "sound effects." I was like "the sounds were different?" But this is a graphical mod, the term is VFX if you really have to use that term, for "visual effects."
I'm still not satisfied with the mod's name, Prepare to Die Edition SFX is short and descriptive but you'd have to know what are PtDE and SFXs to undertsand it. SFX is the term used in Dark Souls game files for special effects, the mod being a replacement for the sfx folder. Besides, if you google SFX, you'd have a pinned wikipedia article for special effects. Moreover I think SFX (Special effects) and VFX are not the same, to my understanding VFX is a term more often used for post processing enhancements, which the mod is not since it replaces models/ sprites textures. That being said I totally agree that the term SFX is confusing, I just didn't find a better way to name the mod.
All of those "bugs" you mention in the description are just what PtDE looks like. Yes, even the invisible toxic breath attacks. It does feel like all the effects are too bright, but it's nice to have them all back in this version nonetheless. Thank you for uploading this here. I probably never would have found it otherwise.
Sadly, the invisible toxic breath and the white dragon head stone breath are bugs :/ That being said, I do not own a copy of ptde and both videos have been captured on a dsfix-ed ptde so there is still a chance an unmodded version of ptde would in fact look like that. If anyone owns a copy of ptde and want to check this, feel free to send me a video capture !
Okay, so I was just wrong about the breath attack. I went back and checked and with no mods it does show up in ptde. It's very odd that the small combination of mods I've been using, none of which are supposed to change effects like that, caused the same bug in ptde that this mod has in remastered, but I went back and checked without any and you're right. Sorry.
Fog gates are glitchy and display improperly for me, the first layer of animated fog dissapears at times and it only displays a flat opaque gray texture, it also spazzes out in some kinda of vertex warping frenzy, when going through them the animated fox reappears but there's some transparency issues where my character's hair is rendered on the topmost layer, weird stuff. Only other mods I have enabled is material fix mod and armor restoration
Seems like a mod conflict... I can't guarantee any compatibility with other mods. The fog gates should be solid gray and opaque and hair does interact badly with sfx though.
Which of the files in your mod changes the bonfire reset vfx? I've been trying to install "Subtle Bonfire Reset" alongside your mod but it's not working because (i think) that mod relies on the DSR bonfire reset effect.
Hi, if you have a backup DSR sfx folder maybe try reinstalling ptde sfx excluding CommonEffects.ffxbnd.dcx or you could reinstall Sublte Bonfire Reset on top of ptde sfx (Suble Bonfire Reset seems to be a FRPG_SfxBnd_CommonEffects.ffxbnd.dcx file replacement). If you don't have a backup and you don't want to verify your game files I could upload a clean DSR sfx folder on the mod page. I want to point out that I am not the mod's creator, that's @1dropoff so I have no idea how the mod interact with other mods...

Hope you can help me. Thank you very much!

Would I need to mess with mod tools to remove that specific effect?
