About this mod

A complete overhaul to Vergil playstyle to better reflect a combination of his DMC3/DMC4 and Reboot iterations.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
Reminder: This mod requires an updated REFramework, the Behavior Tree add-on, and Vergil's full skill list unlocked at 100% for most moves to function properly. You can experiment with lower skill levels, but please note: many moves build off of Vergil’s lower-level abilities and may not function correctly if prerequisites are missing.

⚠️ This mod was developed for Patch 6 of Devil May Cry 5. I cannot guarantee full compatibility with Patch 7 or beyond.

General:
  • Reworked Taunts: All taunts have had their order changed to be more in line with DMC3-4. So now as you progress in style rank, Vergil will have a more fitting reaction.
  • Multi Lock On taunts: Now your lock-on taunt is based on the weapon equipped. Force Edge will perform the default lock on taunt. Beowulf will have Vergil twirl a summon sword on his finger. Yamato will now pull out V Book, similar to how his DMC 3 Dark Aura taunt behaved. The book now loops, making it so as long as you can keep the taunt going, you will gain DT.
  • Multi Air Taunts: Similar to the new Lock On taunts, the air taunt is based on what weapon you have equipped. Yamato default S rank taunt. Force Edge throws three summon swords. Beowulf air Rising Sun.
  • Additional Trick Up: Now if grounded, Vergil can Trick Up two times.
  • Lock On forward animation: The forward animation has been replaced with a playable Vergil walking animation.
  • New Trick Dodge: Trick Dodge has now been altered to allow for slightly better air use if enabled through SSSiyan's Collaborative Cheat Trainer.  as well made to behave closer to the Boss Vergil version with the limitation of no omnidirectional movement to continue to allow for multiple animations, albeit improved in gameplay through faster use and recovery.
  • Multi EX Provocation?: Vergil now has two EX provocations based on his equipped weapon, one being the default doppelganger dance and the other being his sword dance.
  • New animations for Trick: Vergil tricks to enemies and away from his opponents have been altered to be closer to Boss Vergil.
  • Gravity Tweaks: is a little heavier.

Yamato:
  • Combo A: Has been changed. Into a three-hit combo, bringing it back in line with DMC3.
  • Combo B: Remains untouched
  • Combo C: I removed Combo C. I ended up seeing it as a move that pushed Yamato too far in the direction of being better than all his other weapons.
  • Aerial Rave Restored: returned to its former glory. The DMC3 two-hit air combo is back thanks to the Ash aerial rave mod. All I did was edit its frames to be in line with Neo Vergil and fix the sheathing animation.
  • Aerial Rave B: Now tied to a new input. Lock On back melee, but wait, isn't that the same input as aerial cleave? Don't worry; as of now, with the power of REFramework, we can apply hold inputs similar to how high time works for Force Edge in the base game. Vergil can now perform Aerial Rave B or Aerial Cleave based on if he holds the input. In addition to this, if you input again early, you can skip to the end of the move.
  • Upper Slash: Works just like it did in the base game but with an additional startup to allow for you to perform the Vergil SDT Combo A, making the move turn into DMC3 Upper Slash.
  • Aerial Cleave: Preformed with the input Lock On back hold melee. The move has been altered for better alignment when reversed.
  • Judgement Cut Ground: A little broken, but if you charge the move to do Vergil Classic Judgement Cut back step, you can now mash and chain a few imperfect cuts.
  • Perfect Judgement Cut Ground: Now able to be reversed.
  • Perfect Air Judgement Cuts: Now able to be reversed.
  • Rapid Slash: Now allows for an additional input when reaching the end of a Rapid Slash. You can input melee to do Combo C ender, which follows the enemies direction to best emulate DMC3 Rapid Slash being able to knock Vergil opponents behind him as he slashes through.
  • Rising Star: Now carries more forward momentum, like DMC4.

Beowulf:
  • Combo B: has had the dash punch removed and replaced with the SDT finisher.
  • Starfall: In human form it is weaker but acts similar to DMC3 Starfall. The SDT variant has DMC4 instant knockback and the base game ground explosion that launches enemies. Reflection is no longer locked behind the SDT form.
  • Reflection: Vergil's upward dive kick is now on its own input as well as a follow-up from Starfall. The new input is back forward hold melee. This change allowed for air moves to be used through the trainer, making an upward dive kick possible.
  • Lunar Phase: In human form, this move takes after its DMC3 counterpart with the new addition of controlling it. While in SDT, it acts just as it does in the base game. The input of Lunar Phase has been changed to hold forward melee.
  • Lunar Phase Air: in the air while in human form will be affected by gravity and will pull you down before it finishes, so be mindful of height. In SDT, you gain access to a new move to make up for Starfall's loss of reflection being an exclusive move. Taking after Dante, Vergil can now do his own form of Hammer, this move, Lunar Phase, to a hold move in the air while in SDT.
  • Beast Uppercut: Now a hold input making way for restoring Vergil Rising Sun
  • Rising Sun: Now when you input Lock On back melee, Vergil will perform good old Rising Sun. Originally, when I started developing this mod, I had it where Kick 13 was swapped so you would hold to Kick 13 and press for Rising Sun, but I realized how important it was to try and maintain Vergil DMC3 inputs instead.
  • Kick 13: Restored it DMC1 Input. Now when you press forward melee, you get Kick 13. This is why Lunar Phase was moved to a hold input.
  • Straight: A move altered to be used on its own. Back forward melee will now give you Straight as it was in DMC3 for Dante. If you do the move in SDT, you gain access to Draw from DMC4, or as it is known in DMC5 files, Sway. This can be followed up by Straight if you choose to.

Force Edge:
  • Force Edge Combo A: A four-hit combo similar to Vergil DMC3
  • Force Edge Combo B: A new combo taken after Dante Rebellion Combo II from DMC3 allowing you to have a good AoE knockback. That's not all! The move also has a Crazy Combo sort of. If you were wondering where Yamato Combo C ended up, here it is. If you mash the input, Vergil will use his Yamato to unleash countless strikes before finishing it with Force Edge.
  • Round Trip: Vergil now can toss more than one Round Trip to match his brother DSD. Allowing for Vergil to call back Force Edge and use it while enemies are locked up by Round Trip.
  • Stinger: It has been moved to a hold input, but if you continue to hold it after the move has come out, you will get Vergil Yamato Combo C in conjunction with its Force Edge finisher from Combo B instead of the base game Million Stab.
  • Afterburner: Vergil's new move, taking after his brother's weapon Agni & Rudra, is a jet stream doing the input. Lock On forward melee, you will see Vergil do the third hit of Mirage Edge Combo B, which has multiple outcomes. If you input melee only once, Vergil will do the Mirage Edge Combo B ender. If you choose to mash the move, Vergil will continue into Million Stab, which the length of the move can be extended through SDT. If you choose to hold the input after continuing the Force Edge & Yamato Flurry into the Mirage Edge Combo A ender, you can have a follow-up attack in SDT. Lastly, if you do nothing after continuing the string while Vergil is sheathing Yamato, you can follow up with another attack.
  • Drive/Over Drive: This move receives the hold input treatment, allowing you to use Over Drive first if you choose. The only side effect is you can really spam Drive now!
  • Air Stinger: Air Stinger now has a follow-up like its grounded variant, where in the air you can Mirage Edge Combo B ender and even alter based on how long you hold the input to either do the multi-hit spin or ignore it and just send any demon crashing down.
I’ve packed as much as I could into Vergil’s kit using the power of REFramework. There’s a lot here—and honestly, I may have missed a few tweaks in this write-up since it’s full of small changes.
I hope this mod is a welcome addition for anyone seeking a fresh take or something closer to Vergil’s classic DMC3–4 style without breaking his flow in DMC5.
