You can use instead the following console command: runscript pc_immortal
Use the same console command again to deactivate immortality/ become mortal again. You do not need any mods, you only need to enable to use console commands for DAO itself.
I was able to use this successfully for my first playthrough, and it worked for both Origins & Awakenings. But now that I'm trying to do a second file in Origins, i can't get the ring in my inventory. Tried reinstalling and all - is there a part of it where it won't work until after Ostagar?
No it should appear as soon as you save your game and reload, immediately after character creation. Here is what worked for me:
1. Before you create a new character, go into downloadable content (in the main menu), untick/ uncheck the box for ring of immortality, then click done. 2. Create your new character and save. 3. Go again under downloadable content reenable ring of immortality, click done. 4. Reload your just created character and the ring should show up in your inventory.
You have to repeat this step for every new character you create. In other words this method does not work midgame, it only works for new characters. Since I found no method to bring the ring back midgame, because this method only works for new characters. The good news are this method works for new characters every time. But this method works only for the base game, not for dlcs.

Show
Edit:
This method works only for the base game. I tried Awakening but no matter what I try [be it importing a new character (which had the ring before or not) or creating one from scratch] it does not work. But the base game works always flawlessly.
For the base game: Just to be on the safe side when you create a new character wait with saving after you received all quests and codex entries, then save your game, reenable mod in menu and then reload, then it works always. It should work anyway even if you save immediately. I justed wanted to bring this advice up, just in case.
Edit 2:
For Awakening or others dlc or for mid game playthroughs (where you do not posses the ring) you can always use console commands. Type this into the console and press enter:
runscript pc_immortal
Run the same script again and hit enter if you wish to disable immortality again.
I used the shortcut option. Create a shortcut of your games exe, save shortcut to desktop, then open properties of shortcut. Then add in target after file path
-enabledeveloperconsole
Launch game from shortcut. Otherwise try the other options in the article, like e.g. the steam approach.
Here a mod to make console commands visible: https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/1110 This console commands works of course for the base game as well. But why should you use it, when you have the convenience of the ring of immortality.
I regret to inform you that this mod no longer works. I have followed the steps previously mentioned, the unchecking re logging game and then rechecking, and even uninstalling and reinstalling the mod multiple times. Still to no avail.
There is a mod where you use console then command "runscript getx" for a list of 3rd party installs of equipment. I have used it to solve this very issue with other mods whence the item will not come into inventory as described The Mod is here at Nexus, Do a search of either keywords or all
The mod wasn't installing or letting me change it to a dazip file, so I deleted all the files but now anytime I try to load an old save I get the same "this game cannot be loaded without the Ring of Immortality" installed and force loading it or attempting to start a new game results in the game freezing on the loading screen

Not sure what others have been doing, but I just downloaded and installed this mod in the middle of a game (so loaded a previous save with an existing character) and it worked perfectly.
using the daupdater after renaming the file and everything just leads to error messages, I've tried unistall and reinstalling the game twice now but the error's are still coming up and I can't start a new game or load an old game
it is showing in my inventory but i had an empty save but the ring didn't work .... had saved it up for fighting flemeth in my lonesome for my dear morigan she killed me ....
This is the only solution that worked for me when trying to equip it to a new character. I essentially had to delete all my save files; checking and unchecking, uninstalling and reinstalling etc just didn't cut it. Luckily I hadn't made massive progress in my first playthrough, so deleting the save wasn't a huge loss. And I've got the ring back for my new character Thanks for this, sjw!
I have the same situation and I found a solution. This mod just work for the first character. To make this mod works, you should: 1) Uninstall this mod (before do this, you must have one or more save data for you to do step.2) ; 2) Delete all your saves and characters; 3) Start a new game; 4) Install this mod. I have tried three times, it always works. may help you.
sorry for my poor english-.-(actually even myself can't understand what am I saying...)
Hey guys, I tried to manually install this but when it didn't work, I installed it with the DA Modder. Worked like a charm :) Here's the link for anyone who doesn't have it: https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/286/
I am just coming back to DAO after an absence and saw this. Usually what i have to do to get it show up in my inventory whenever I create a new character is to go to the installed content tab:
1. Uncheck the item. 2. Log in game (I have it unchecked before i create my new character. There are a few i keep unchecked until I need them so they don't take up much room) 3. Save game when able. 4. Check item 5. Go back in game should be there. Someone else mentioned about deleting all your saves and characters that only one can have it. I have created several at a time and it has worked but only doing it this way and with a newly created character.
No idea if it works this way for a game already being played. Hope I explained this ok.

Use the same console command again to deactivate immortality/ become mortal again. You do not need any mods, you only need to enable to use console commands for DAO itself.

I'm trying to replay DAO right now and really want this ring to work, but I followed the steps and it doesn't show up :(
