About this mod

This mod fixes and implements mechanics (inc. Threat) in the Shale Talent tree that were originally intended but do not exist or are bugged due to coding errors.

Description: Lack of specializations, limited talent trees, limited equipment slots and other such disadvantages cause Shale to be one of the least chosen companions for a party member slot in the game. It also doesn't help that the talents it does come equipped with are riddled with bugs and unimplemented mechanics.

This mod now fully implements all intended mechanics to all of Shale's talents and ensures the bonuses provided by the talents match their respective descriptions.

V2.0+ note: This mod started off as a fix for one of the sustained talents for Shale but when dug deeper, quite a few issues and inconsistences were found. As a result, a full clean up of the four main sustained abilities(+ 1 active) was done. Now all abilities part of Shale's talents function as intended.

Please DO NOT use any files from this mod which are before v2.0. I have conducted some testing which revealed some issues when using the previous versions.

Instructions:

  • Extract the zip folder and copy it into your C:\Users\"User"\Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\packages\core\override

Compatibility:

  • This mod does NOT work with the 'Shale Talents Reworked' mod so please uninstall that if you want to use this one.
  • It is compatible with Dain's Fixes mod. It is highly recommended you download the below mentioned folders from Dain's fixes to get the full fixes for Shale(only applies to those who don't already use Dain's fixes).

What the mod does:

Changes the main sustained talents for Shale to ensure they are all functioning according to their respective descriptions. All AoE sustaineds now properly grant their respective buffs(or debuffs). Read below for specific changes.

Stoneheart:

  • When active, the talent now emits a passive 'pulse' in a radius of 10m around Shale. The pulse generates 20 threat every 4 seconds per enemy in the AoE.
  • Investment in the Stoneheart tree increases the effectiveness of the pulse. Details as follow:
  • With Bellow - 40 threat generated every 4 seconds
  • With Stone Roar - 60 threat generated every 4 seconds
  • With Regenerative Burst - 80 threat generated every 4 seconds

Stone Roar:

  • When used, Stone Roar will erase threat gained by party members(reduces it to 1) while granting 40 additional threat from the target to Shale. This makes the talent useful in situations where priority targets need to be focused on Shale and not on other party members.

Stone Aura:

  • The 'Inner Reserves' passive was meant to provide an armor bonus to the party rather than a Defense bonus. This is now implemented; +3 Armor when Stone Aura is active
  • The 'Renewed Assault' passive was meant to impose a movement speed debuff on enemies along with the existing penalties to Attack and Defense when Stone Aura is active. This is also implemented. Enemies are slowed down when in Stone Aura AoE by 20%.

Rock Mastery:

  • Description of the 'Hurl Rock' talent within 'Rock Mastery' mentioned a ranged critical chance bonus but was never added. This is addressed. Along with the attack speed buff, party members will acquire a 5% ranged crit chance when within the AoE of Rock Mastery.

Recommended Actions:

The other Shale talents that need fixing are done by the 'Dain's Fixes' mod, so please download from there. The specific folders to download from Dain's Fixes are as follow:

  • Reduces Hostility (bug fix)
  • Rock Barrage (bug fix)
  • Shale Quake (bug fix)
