Thanks v much for this! Same issue as the other user below though, when I try to use it in Frosty, the game runs fine but for that specific scene in the Deep Roads in Trespasser where you let Jerran go, Iron Bull still slightly disapproves. Should I be seeing the notification or is there a workaround that will just temporarily hide approval/disapproval notifications? (since this is just for Trespasser I don't really care if the approval points really drop or not)
Update: Tried to troubleshoot/do a workaround with the Vanilla/add approval file for Iron Bull instead to see if it was a max approval issue. I lowered the Approval from 125 to 124 in SaveGameEditor before I ran the cutscene, and can confirm that even with the Vanilla mod in place, it will still decrease approval by 1 (approval on the edited SaveGame file is now 123 after the Jerran Deep Roads cutscene). So based on earlier comment threads here, it probably has to do with Iron Bull's approval for this scene being tied to a different file) Full info: I'm running a lot of other mods (daimods included) in Frosty 1.0.6.2 and only recently added this mod just for this scene particularly as it's one of the only two approval/disapproval scenes that really annoy me, so there was no mod previously altering approvals in my main game or the other DLCs. I put it last in the load order i.e. highest priority.
The game went through various phases, particularly with the DLC. This Kotaku article talks about Bioware's struggle with Frostbite engine - https://kotaku.com/how-biowares-anthem-went-wrong-1833731964 That struggle meant the team was still learning how to get the most out of Frostbite when The Descent DLC was released and even when Trespasser DLC was released. Each seems to indicate that the team had either had to bodge things in arcane ways (Descent) to get the intended effect, or learn more about the engine (Trespasser). Because Descent is a mysterious mess (and in that, a great triumph), it really doesn't like to be modded. As far as I can tell - but I am no expert, I'm just a bodger.
That said, it doesn't use the files this mod edits to affect those particular approval thingies, and I've given up trying to fix it - to me, it's good enough.
Thanks for your explanation and efforts anyway! I managed to get a recording I'm satisfied with by using Cheat Engine to very briefly toggle the HUD off during the cutscene (since it's a Trespasser scene, the actual approval doesn't really matter imo). I just wanted to give you full details in case you were still trying to find the problem.
Thanks for the report. I don't understand why the devs didn't use the regular approval files for these occasional one-offs, but ... I suppose that's what makes DAI the bad kind of special.
By copying systems into the DLC, we can ensure that the DLC works independently of any changes or updates to the base game. This helps avoid potential issues where an update to the base game might break the DLC (which in turn makes it easier to manage and update the DLC).
Plus referencing systems from the base game might introduce other issues, so is common practice for developers to not reference systems from Base Game in the DLC, this is not exclusive to DAI, Bioware nor Frostbite.
So you just need to find the same files in the DLC package, and redo your changes.
Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense - funnily enough, though, with Trespasser DLC they added a lot stuff to the original game folders instead of using the Blue (Trespasser) DLC folder.
From what I can tell, these aren't system duplications - they're one-off direct alterations - I gave it a cursory check and I didn't find how the value is being changed.
Unless there are other disapproval files, none of the companions should be doing so. I hollowed out the files that do the disapproving afaik. Maybe I've not found them all?
Thanks for your report. I had a look in the files and whilst there are a lot more files regarding Approval then I expected, they seem to refer back to the ones I've hollowed out. I ... don't know what's happened in your instance.
I've been checking the files and they seem to be correct. It shouldn't be possible for Cassandra to greatly disapprove because the file that handles it doesn't have anything left in it.
Because i' kinda worried, that is may break my game if i have to uninstall it. ;)
Caution, Spoilers ahead:
I've come too far already. But i'm wondering if i can dodge that Greater Varric Disapproval, if Hawk dies and the Greater Solas Disapproval if you spare the Grey Wardens and recruit them. :D
so frosty will install it but warns that it's for a different game version so i would advise against using it even though it is possible best case scenario it does nothing worse case it completely breaks your game
It works perfectly for me so far. It's still a mod that reacts to dialogue choices. So worst that can happen is, that you have disapprovals where you shouldn't. Which i did -not- experience yet. So no need to fear the worst case scenario. ;)

Try asking on the DAI Modding Discord. Does this link work? https://discord.com/channels/237396421920292864/521049899316412426
Other than that, this works great so far :D
Only other mods I have installed are the Enhanced Character Creator, and some retex mods.

There are some disapprovals that I don't want to get & I want to get.
10/10
After talking to the Templar Jerran, who joined the Qunari in teh Deeproads, i let him go. Ironbull disapproved. :P
Just in case you want to check. ;)
Did you get other instances of disapproval?

I'll take another look.
Can i also use this with Frosty?
