Dropping this here, for those new to modding and having trouble with IDs.
If you're trying to install a custom hairstyle for SSJ4, what you want to do first is install this mod like usual.
Then take your custom hair files from any mod, the ones ending in (Hair.dyt.emb; Hair.emb; Hair.emd; Hair.emm.) Rename them from (SYM_000/HUM_000) or (SYF_000/HUF_000) to (HUM_256/HUF_256). Do this for all 4 files, so they look something like HUM_256_Hair.dyt.emb/HUF_256_Hair.dyt.emb.
You don't want to change anything beyond the three numbers, just the first half of the file name. HUM is male; HUF is female. HUM files go in DB Xenoverse 2\data\chara\HUM, and the HUF files go in HUF.
NOTE: if the files have something like .scd anywhere in the file name, chances are you'll run into issues. Try to use modded hairstyles that don't. Those files with scd are meant to go with another mod as far as I'm aware -- correct me on that if wrong -- which at the moment isn't updated to version 1.23 -- the current game update as of this post. You CAN try to remove the scd and rename it to fit its corresponding file, but I can't guarantee good results -- it depends on the file itself.
When people talk about hair ID, they mean these files, which you physically place in the folders.
If I messed anything up with this explanation, feel free to correct me, as I'm posting this almost out of obligation due to how much people on other sites did not explain the process very well.
Swell mod either way, and definitely one of my favs -- I got it from VGM as opposed to here.
Note: every time you reinstall this mod, you need to add your custom hairstyle in manually again. Correction: My bad. Turns out another mod I have was playing with the above -- cleaned up my install and tested to make sure it works fine. Mod author has confirmed your custom files should be fine. Still, try to keep backups of any overwritable files when modding, for safety's sake.
Good explanation, glad ya like the mod. As for the hair_scd files, those are hair models with physics (hair moves with the character on certain animations), they require the hair_scd.esk to be included and the correct BCS entry, though can be bothersome and agree they should be avoided for CaCs.
The only reason I don't specify these instructions in the description is not to overload the user, as I've seen that mistake happen with other mods. The expectation is also for the user to seek this information from another source, such as YouTube videos, written tutorials and/or in The Citadel (Xenoverse 2 Modding Community's Discord Server (link in mod description)). I realize it's quite bold to assume the user will do this, though it should be common practice to research on their own how-to mod games. A prime example is how you were able to learn this information outside what was listed in this mod description.
Also, it's strange you need to adjust your SSJ4 hair after re-installation, it's specifically set up not to be that way. LB Installer knows not to change certain files if they already exist in the data folder. (It's possibly another mod? I know a new/naive mod author who made Lazybone compatible mods which overwrite those hair files each time (he thinks he knows what he's doing, yet so naive)) Feel free to message me on Discord, I'm curious as to why the hair needs to be adjusted each time.
Going to sate your curiosity now. You were right: it was another mod -- several actually, all changing different things, but one of which touched the patented 256. Cleaning up my install though, so most of those mods are gone because I don't use them. Have corrected the post above. Thank you for the clarification on that, as well as _scd.
