Awesome mod! I'll leave here my keyboard and mouse layout with two side buttons.
Movement: Walk - Ctrl (default X), autosprint on
Actions: Use Accessory - Mouse-5 (default - Middle mouse) Loot/Search/Interact - Alt (default F) Survivor Sense - Middle mouse (default Q) Grapple - Mouse-4 (default Alt)
Skills: Crowd Runner - Q (default B) Block Charge - F (default V) The idea is to minimize the use of fingers that control the movement keys (WASD), as well as to eliminate inconvenient combinations.
Loot/Search/Interact was switched to Alt to avoid issues with the Grapple skill (by default, in case of a throw to the right, you had to press D and F at the same time, and you only have one index finger). Breaking out of the clutches of zombies and grabbing bricks and clods on the run is also much easier when you don't have to take your finger off the movement keys.
Use Accessory was switched to Mouse-5 because I often have to use accessories during battle, and the mouse sometimes interprets inaccurate presses on the wheel as scrolling, which is annoying. Survivor Sense is more often used in a calm situation, so the wheel is suitable for this purpose.
Crowd Runner is a situational skill that is usually used during a chase, when we run straight. The Q key is much closer to the ring finger than the B key is to the thumb or index finger. In addition, the ring finger is almost never used.
Block Charge is an even more situational skill that feels like a snappy, single action - and the F key is in the perfect place for it.
This way, I've unloaded the sensory load on different hands. Everything that depends on mouse movement is controlled by the mouse. The rest of the load is evenly distributed between the fingers of the left hand. There are no more finger-breaking combos, and the rare special abilities are at hand, not at the far end of the keyboard (seriously, who could reach B or V during a chase?)
Of course, it will be difficult to relearn, but after 4 hours I no longer feel discomfort.
It works by half, the mod removes the key binds from the new version of the game (for example, there is no key to change the mode of fire for weapons, and perhaps something else)
Hey, thanks a lot for the mod! Can it be possible to rebind the grapple button to something other than Use? Maybe tie it to Crowd Runner or even Paraglider key or something else.
I had it on Alt in the first game and it was just perfect.
Would it be possible to have the dodge button tied to something other than "jump" ?
Edit : Also I went into a combat challenge and couldn't aim using right click even though I reassigned the key to right click in the settings beforehand (For those new to the game like me, you need to unlock the skill to aim down sight, it's not a bug)
Can you add the ability to rebind the "trigger trap" button? Having it bound to "F" like everything else in the game has caused my death more than once.
Other than that, great mod. Love that aiming with bows makes sense now.
