G-Sync + fast vsync and triple buffering on makes the game smooth as silk for me.

I believe this works by buffering the frames a bit more, adding a bit of smoothness at the cost of input latency. Shouldn't be much of an issue with a 120hz monitor but the game is unplayable at 30hz, way too much input lag.

    Hi, all.
Unfortunately, adaptive 1/2 isn't working for me (most of the time),
My setup is Win10 144Hz FreeSync2 monitor, 1070ti, 7700K, 16GB RAM (turned to 120Hz with FreeSync disabled and adaptive 1/2 on). Sometimes it works but it's totally random and as far a I know it's NVIDIA's problem or a Win 10 issue. So when it's not working I still have screen tearing. I have followed every step from the OP and in the beginning it was working but now it's broken as it seems.

    Any ideas for a fix?
EDIT: I've fixed this using Nvidia's Inspector's basic profile.

    Cheers!

Amazing this works. And amazing how we have to find these solutions instead of fromsoft just fixing their game.

I didn't follow this guide completely, so here is what i use for same effect:
    120 hz
    adaptive 1/2
Fullscreen instead of borderless, which also allows me to use nvidia image scaling for more fps.
    "EldenRingFPSUnlockAndMore" instead of flawless widescreen.

So...  Adaptive Vsync is no longer an option in NVidia Control Panel. It was put to rest over a year ago, last I can remember. For my GTX 1070 laptop, I only have On Off and Fast options. No Adaptive Half Refresh.

That said, would the vsync setting be the core of your suggestion?

Adaptive vsync is alive and well! Maybe you have Gsync activated? That disables adaptive vsync options.

It has to be unlocked framerate (important) + adaptive vsync (half refresh rate, or 1/3 refresh rate), others vsync settings have no positive effect.

Is anyone 100% certain this will cause any sort of risk for getting banned/picked up by Ez Anti-cheat?

Just someone who really enjoys PvP but not at 30-50 fps stutters xd.

It doesn't look like these are causing any direct changes to game files but just wondering if the anti-cheat will scream if this 3rd party application OP is using will get me banned for any reason.

Also, even if it did ban me, does Anti-cheat use IP bans? In the good ol' days of darksouls 3; you could just create a smurf steam account and family share the game and if for any reason you got banned it was just a smurf account that didn't matter.

either way, much gratitude for your hard work for figuring something out <3. Praying FromSoft will get their s#*! together.

you need to disable anti cheat, play offline and have game version before 1.3 (on 1.3 it doesn't work nearly as well)

can we cap fps to 60 via riva tuner or something maybe (using painkiller's method) so fps drops are smaller and less noticeable ? (I get 50 to 55ish fps usually but sometimes game drops to 40ish area and sometimes it goes above 60 fps so I'd like to cap it at 60 so the amount of frames lost in fps drops is lesser) ?

Do not use RTSS, Nvidia's 1/2 or 1/3 vsync's frame limiter is better for Elden Ring, because it adds input lag and it gives time to the CPU to process frames - less dropped frames.

Also, using two frame limiting methods at the same time (Painkiller's + RTSS) can potentially harm the game's performance.

I stopped trying to fix version 1.03.1. It's broken. I'll continue playing from a 1.02.3 backup save game, 20 hours lost, but at least it's buttery smooth.

I am using painkiller's method but set rtss fps limit to 0 like u suggested. however I sometimes go above 60 fps to 70 and 80 fps area that's why I'd like to somehow limit it to 60 cuz drops from 60 to 40 are less intense than drops from 80 to 40. but I guess there is no way to limit it if I want either fix to work.
sorry to hear you couldn't make saves work. that one of reasons why I always back up saves in unstable games before trying an update.
recently sekiro got an update that made performance worse but I luckily had older version saves backed up. it'd be nice if there's automatic saves backup-er for souls games like one that ppl made for remnant.
anyhow. so I can't rly limit fps to 60 if I want either fix to work I guess. Oh well. Can't complain. Thanks to you and painkiller my game went from completely unplayable to almost butter smooth so thank you once again!
hopefully more ppl found out about this. I downloaded the screenshots just o endorse the mod so maybe more folks stumble upon it.
and maybe, hopefully, in not too distant future from finally fixes whatever crazy broken stuff they did with pc version.

If you've updated your game to 1.03 do not expect this fix to work that well (or at all) anymore. Now it's gone from buttery smooth to occasional huge frame drops. Even after you rebuild the game's shader cache, it will run much worse than 1.02.3.

Thanks a lot From!! Jesus Christ...

I found this after updating while randomly browsing mods. For me, 1.03 fixed a lot of the stuttering.

      Specs: (It's a laptop)
      i7-10750H, 2.6 GHz
RTX 2070 Super Mobile 8 GB
      32 GB RAM
      512 GB SSD

How much worse would you say new patch is with this fix compared to previous version with this fix? Are those bug fixes they mentioned worth it?

      1.02.3 + my fix >>> 1.03 + my fix > 1.02.3 default > 1.03 default

I mean, performance went from nearly flawless to almost as bad as default even WITH fixes. I actually had hitching at 120hz + 1/3 refresh rate = 40hz on this new patch. Very disapointing.

I don't think those bug fixes are worth it unless you noticed them before.

Okay, so.... I don't understand what the f**k is happening with this game.
When I first tried it, I was using 1.02.1 and it sucked. Then I tried turning on Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling, and I swear it made the game much smoother and run at a near-constant 60 FPS.
Then I updated to 1.02.2, and later 1.02.3. Back to Stutter City. GPU Scheduling didn't seem to make any difference at all. None of the other tips mentioned all over the internet helped before or after those updates, either.
Finally, I get to 1.03. At first, it seems to run the same as previous versions. The second time I load it up, it suddenly runs better than it ever had before. I played for a glorious 5 hours with zero stutters except when reaching the Church of Vows, for some reason. I turn my laptop off, finally, and go to sleep.
Today, it's back to Stutter City AGAIN. Nothing I tried makes it go back to that near-flawless performance from yesterday night. I literally cannot comprehend WTF is going on with this engine.

Also, using this trick with 1.03, for me, causes it to run smoothly.... but with a weird slowdown every second or so. It's too noticeable and it makes playing the game as annoying as when dealing with microstuttering :(

The problems seem to lie both with the weird V-Sync/FPS cap implementation and the DirectX pipeline. The next patch better do something right regarding these issues or I'll.... I'll....!

Cry in bed, I guess T_T

gotya. btw, so you also set it to 1/3 instead of 1/2. is the painkillers way of applying fix better? I still can't decide which to use and I'm not tech savy nor have too good english skills so I am annoying you both now with questions. Sorry about that.
p.s. which way is best to disable eac? does just renaming it's and ring's exe still work?

Yeah just started playing the game after todays small 14mb patch and my performance went to s*** again. From soft is too busy adding npc map markers and finishing the questlines to this unfinished mess of a game. Thanks for your work though, it was nice to enjoy smooth ER for like a day and a half before they f***ed it up once again xD

@truba123: I'm still using 1/2, I can easily get a stable 60fps on my build. No reason to limit it to 1/3 40hz, also with the new update the game is gonna drop frames no matter what, so might as well enjoy the extra smoothness of 60fps...

Shame that I cannot downgrade to 1.02.3 without losing my save game.

I sit around 50ish fps with occasional drop below to 40ish areas in between so I guess I should use 1/3 huh?
Sorry to hear you can't downgrade without losing save. I think in some games that's kinda-ish possible but such games are rare probably. When I tried using 1.2.3 save on 1.2.0 it didn't work, got menu error and had to alt+4. maybe if you cut out the saves, and make new saves on 1.2.3. then add or merge old saves with new one it might let you pass main menu error pop-up? I know someone fiddled smtn like that in remnant from ashes once and allegedly managed to make it work somehow but svae files between these two games is probably too different for that I guess.
Did deleting shaders thing you recommended for 1.3 not work for you in the end?

@truba123: Definitely, stick to 40hz if input lag is decent. And no, unfortunately neither deleting DX12 shader cache / Nvidia shader cache work. It was just placebo,1.03.1 just runs like crap.

I think I might try your solution, I will create a new 1.02.3 save game and attempt to transfer the newer save game to this save using this tool - https://github.com/BenGrn/EldenRingSaveCopier/releases/tag/v0.0.2-alpha. Fingers crossed!

      EDIT: doesn't work.

This new update is amazing,  worse grass draw distance and shadow performance, while giving you lower fps and more fps drop stutter moment.

I've seen Unity made open world games that were more stable and ran more smoothly than this AAA+ 10/10 opus magnum masterpiece(of sh*t)
