Edit:Place Q&A under Description. I will update it when we feel like it.
How to use mods with Mod Engine 2. It is already included in the file.
1.Download NPCs And Bosses Spirit Summons and unzip "ModEngine-2.0.0-preview3" to your desired location, such as Desktop or Elden Ring/Game folder.
2.Open "ModEngine-2.0.0-preview3" and you will find a mod folder, which already contains the NPCs And Bosses Spirit Summons regulation.bin. There is a parts folder that I created, but it is empty.
3. download Ranni Skin for Tarnished. Link https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/468?tab=posts&BH=1
4. Open "Ranni Skin for Tarnished" and find a .dcx file and put it in the "ModEngine-2.0.0-preview3/mod/parts folder.
5. click "launchmod_eldenring.bat" with administrator rights. Double click once more to launch Elden Ring with the mod applied, even if the Game folder of Elden Ring is still in Vanilla.
I think my item text will only be reflected for those playing in Japanese and English on Steam. (Because we only localize these two languages). So if you are playing in any other language, the item you have added will be displayed as?Goodsinfo?
No need to manually put the steam_appid.txt in the Game folder to disable EAC or use the anti-cheat toggler and offline launcher. launchmod_eldenring.bat will launch the mod Engine 2 will do it on its own. In short, you don't have to mess with the regulation.bin in the Elden Ring/Game folder, or unpack eldenring.exe with UXM and Patch it. leave Vanilla. If you don't want to apply the mods, just boot straight from Steam and it will launch without them.
1. First you need to turn off Easy anti cheat (EAC) and play only offline (like this anti-cheat toggler and offline launcher). 2. Download the mod folder manually. 3. Download Ranni Skin for Tarnished, needed to replace Ranni's models: Astrologer Gloves, Astrologer Robe, Marionette Soldier Birdhelm, Astrologer Trousers will replace Ranni's model.https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/468?tab=posts&BH=2
4. . Go to steamapps/common/Eldenring/Game (after making a backup from the original regulation.bin) and replace it with my mod's regulation.bin.
The game file has now been replaced. Next install the Ranni skins and text files.
5. Download the latest UXM. 6. Unpack eldenring.exe in UXM.This will unzip a large number of folders including the msg folder in the Game folder.Copy the msg folder from the Mod Engine 2/mod folder and overwrite the msg folder in the Game folder. 7. Similarly overwrite the Ranni Skin for Tarnished .dcx file, this time in the parts folder. 8. Then start UXM and apply the Patch to eldenring.exe.
If you do not follow this procedure, the text will not be reflected and will be ?Goodsinfo?
If you are using Mod Engine 2, this procedure (UXM) is not necessary. However, whether you do it with Mod Engine 2 or manually, the text will only be reflected for those playing in Japanese and English on Steam. (This is because we only localize these two languages).
I have been dealing with each person as politely as possible, but I am really tired of dealing with each person's comments anymore.
I installed it and it is still the original Spirit Summon. What is wrong? Why spirit item text is ?Goodsinfo? (paste scrubbed silently into bug report) How do I get the Spirit Summon to come with it? Please add who(still good as it is a request for a mod). How can I edit the .dcx file? How do I add items to the store?
These will never end.
It's still fine if it's about my mods, but it's very unpleasant to deal with and ask only about the knowledge I do. If I ask that much, I have no use for them. The bottom line is that the person who asks that, does not need this mod.
It's normal that the mod doesn't work, since it was made for 1.04 and your game is probably more up to date. But don't worry you don't have to wait for the mod creator to update it you can do it yourself ! (I did it for 1.09 and it works perfectly) It may sound complicated but it I never heard of this method before and it only took me 10 or so minutes to do it. Now the mod works perfectly !
1) So first download this mod and the Ranni skin, copy the Ranni Skin files into the "parts" folder of this mod (inside "mod" folder)
2) Now you need to update the mod (this method can work for other mods too !) : I followed this simple tutorial "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GT3Oe_r7UA". It's really simple A. First you have to download MapStudio (link : https://github.com/soulsmods/DSMapStudio) B. Then open a new projet (call it NPC Boss Summon or whatever), locate the "mod" folder (that contains the "regulation.bin" file) and also locate your game.exe. C. Then go to the "param editor" tab, and click on the green "Update Param" button D. It will ask you to present to it a vanilla "regulation.bin" file from the version of Elden Ring that the mod was made for (in this instance, it's 1.04) so that it can compare with the vanilla file and see what the mod modified (to then port those modifications into a new up to date "regulation.bin" file). You can find all the vanilla "regulation.bin" files in this archive : https://github.com/trey-niu/Elden-Ring-Vanilla-regulation.bin-Archieve. Simply select the 1.04 one when prompted by MapStudio E. Click yes yes yes ok ok F. Now that it was updated, before closing MapStudio click "File" then "Save Params" and it's done ! Now the mod was updated to work with your current version of Elden Ring !
3) Now you just have to copy the mod where it needs to go. If like me you already have ModEngine installed somewhere with your other mods, you just copy all the contents of the updated "mod" folder into your ModEngine "mod" folder. If it asks you to replace files (like regulation.bin) say yes but copy those files somewhere beforehand in case any thing goas awry or you want to uninstall this mod. If you didn't already have ModEngine, just use the one that comes with this mod when you download it (the ModEngine2.0.0preview" folder or whatever). If launching the .bat file doesn't work, you may have to copy all the files and folders (the "mod" folder, the "modengine" folder, and the files like launch_elden.bat and the like) into your Elden Ring "Game" folder, and then launch the .bat file
Voila ! I hope my instructions were clear. Now you just have to launch the game with ModEngine, go to the Church of Vows et talk to Miriel, you will be able to purchase the summons. PS : if you can't summon them immediately, don't forget that in Elden Ring it's normal not to be able to summon/use the bell anywhere ! You can only do it on designated areas (for example : boss arenas, some areas in Caelid, I don't know all the areas but try around). As a matter of fact, you can't summon anything inside the church of vows or the surrounding area, don't let that startle you just travel elsewhere and try again there.
Final words : Thanks again to the creator of this excellent mod ! Hoping FromSoftware takes inspiration from it... Having companions follow you around and fight with you (and ideally talk and banter with you, and even better among themselves) is the pinnacle of gaming for me. Yes I miss Skyrim very much. Can't wait for AI LLM-driven NPCs !!!
Thanks for the great guide. Unfortunately,DSMapStudio is not compatible with the latest version Eldenring now. They are developing I think, so we should wait a while longer. I apologize for my poor English skill from far east.
Yeah I just tried with the 1.12 but it doesn't work, DSMapStudio was broken after 1.12 But Smithbox works and should be similar in how it's done ! If I'm correct, it's a fork of DSMap studio Here's the link : https://github.com/vawser/Smithbox
I have merged it with clever movesets and frenzied flame helmet and my face is invisible only shows after 2 hands a weapon and even the names of the summons not showing up did any one encounter this issue?
Sorry, but everytime im trying to start the mod (rani skin datas in the parts folder) it tells me, that I didnt save correctly last time, eventhough, I didnt play before and the basegame and another launcher are working perfectly fine, but as soon as I put the mod in the mods folder of the other Modengine2 or start it from your Modengine2preview3 it say, that its corrupted, because I didnt save correctly. Bjuut only for this moa
Has anyone been able to fix it? this was the best "companion" mod for me, I've been waiting for an update, since trying to do it myself resulted in a complete failure.
Hello! I was merging the csv files from mod to regulation.bin using DSMapStudio, all the files worked except BuddyParam. An error window pops up with the text "CSV has wrong numbers of values" and I don't know how to solve this. Does anyone have any ideas how to help me? Thx!
Same here, it is the only CSV file with that problem, but it seems that without it, the mod don't work... I try with the regulation file of this mod and same, just don't work, like it is full vanilla :/

UXM is required for manual installation after 3.0.
Manual installation method. (conventional method).
