It's perfect for Keyboard and mouse. I'm playing Seamless Coop with friends. I use mouse and they use controller, so I install this mod while they won't. Will mod inconsistency affect Seamless Coop connection?
Or is it possible to add a key binding to switching Free Lock Cam and Vanilla Lock Cam? Vanilla Lock Cam maybe better when fighting with high mobility BOSS like Malenia.
I found that this mod removes camera zooming for large Bosses(Death Bird, Magma Wyrm) in vanilla games, which makes hard to watch their attack patterns. So yes, as for me, I need it.
Really? Do you have a video link that demonstrates that? I mean I had plenty of situations where I would love the camera to zoom out (i.e. increase camera distance) like other games do (Zelda BoTW for example). But it didn't. Googling that gives me posts of people complaining about a lack of camera zoom when fighting large enemies. Looking at a video for the Death Bird fight shows situations where you don't see the arms or head for some of the attacks when too close. How much zoom are we talking about here?
Yes, it's not so obvious. ERR has ehanced this feature, but seems to make it by regulation.bin file editing, which maybe impossible for dll mods. Just a key to switch free-lock cam is perfect enough.
That's pretty nifty. Maybe I can try to keep that.
The whole toggle thing is another topic. (I don't take feature requests so by demand I meant like a general problem that needs to be solved rather than a specific solution based on someones personal preferences. Also keep in mind that the scope of this mod is not to be perfect. It is a workaround after all. I would not expect controller-users to use this. With a mouse you can always get better at aiming.)
Am using this mod, it has solved many lock problems. I have one problem still (not with the mod but with the game action). I am a mage and fight 99% of the time using spells. When the boss runs at me, I need to turn away from the boss and dodge/sprint away to put distance between myself and the boss so I can cast another spell. When I turn away and retreat, I lose my target lock on the boss. I then have to hunt the boss down and reaquite it aas the target again. I almost always end up dead trying to reaquire the boss target. I am using the config.ini settings that were provided at download time. I have tried changing a few but nothing I change keeps me from losing the target when I face away fro it. MY Question is "Is there any way to make this mod lock on and stay locked on until the boss dies or I die. Of course I understand it cannot remain locked if I go really far out of range." This loss of target is the most frustrating part of Elden Ring combat for me in an otherwise great game. Thanks for reading and your time. Excellent MOD thanks again. ** Edit ** I forgot that I have changed a setting in the config. I have already changed Target_switching_mode = modded_keep.
I can't seem to get modded_keep to work for the switching mode. When I have this set in the config.ini it still switches targets when I move my mouse. I am currently running the mod using only mod engine 2, is it possible that for the config to work I need to be using Elden Mod Loader? Would love to fix this since otherwise the ability to move the camera freely is already amazing, just wish lock on wouldn't switch when i tried turning the camera
After some more testing I can confirm that it seems like the mod is not reading my config changes and instead is just using the defaults. Not really sure why and have no clue what to troubleshoot to try and fix this other than adding Elden Mod Loader which I would like to avoid if possible
Seems to work if you rename it to FreeLockOnCamera.ini and put it next to the dll! It's not stated but I think the config ini is supposed to be pasted somewhere else.
Also having trouble getting the config values to be read. I'm using it with Convergence which uses mod engine 2. I tried the suggestion to rename it FreeLockOnCamera.ini and put it next to the dll, but that didn't work for me, it still only uses the default settings.
EDIT: Figured it out. It seems it was looking in the Elden Ring install folder, not in the Convergence mod's folder. So I had to go my Elden Ring install folder, and in the Game folder where the exe is I had a folder called "mods", and under that folder was another folder called "FreeLockOnCamera" (like in the zip file of this mod), and the config file needed to be placed and edited there. Then my changes got picked up by the mod.
this is an amazing mod, but imo it lacks an unable/disable hotkey option. usually on open world this mod is a no brainer to use, but in cerntain boss fights the original game locked camera can be a better option to use, and reseting the game to disable the mod for a single boss fight is unpratical. consider the possibility of adding an option to able/disable the free camera rotation, would make this mode even more usefull than it already is. thanks for this great mod.
Little question: Is the opposite possible? The character have free movement to all directions as the same time the camera to be more distant and locked on an enemy? Fer reference, I am thinking something on the terms of Japanese character action games (Devil May Cry, Nier Replicant & Automata, Bayonetta, Dragon's Dogma, Metal Gear Rising, etc...).
The main change is to have free movement during lock-on. Although, the first person mod might already have that. For the other changes there are mods as well. There is a mod for changing the camera position and distance. The vanilla lock-on already tracks the target. This mod lets you stick onto the same target at all times if you prefer that. Note that you need to change the setting target_switching_mode to modded_keep. So you need to extract these changes into one mod. (I won't do that if that is the question.)
My friend, I can't thank you enough about the changes you did. Your mod made this one a bit less motion sick (after installing your updated mod, I noticed how much more “smooth” playing ER has become. Flying bugs are not my worst enemies in the game anymore XD). 1000 Thanks to you! Endorsed with a lot of merits.
I use about 20 mods on this game and this one is by far the best.
The only thing I miss is a toggle to turn it off in game. Rare enemies are better to fight with a normal lock-on (enemies that move around you A LOT, like Messmer).
Is it possible to add that feature into this mod ? turn on and off.
I agree. A simple on/off for the entire mod and maybe a separate on/off for just the "is_free_lock_on_camera_enabled" option. That way people can toggle off the lockon freeaim without turning off the other settings in this mod. It sucks having to reboot the game and change the .ini file just to make these simple changes.

I can try to increase the range (if I find where that is set). Maybe that helps.

P.S., solved, thanks for the mod SchuhBaum.
