I downloaded the ebony hood file only, but the in-game hood is somehow a mix of both colors. The navy is still showing on the hood's interior. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Hi there, sorry for the late answer. The hood's exterior is defined by what's in the "parts"' folder, whereas the interior is defined by what's in the "material" folder. Did you paste the "material" folder correctly in your mod folder ? If you only pasted the "parts" folder, it's normal you ended up with a two-colored hood.
That would require quite a lengthy tutorial. Though I plan to create new colors, less saturated, so they could be matched more easily with more pieces of gear. If you're willing to wait a bit, I'll make a sage green hood recolor.
May I ask for a little assistance? first, I am in LOVE with these colors! Enough that i would like to include multiple iterations in my co-op game group, of which I'm the only "mod curator / DM" guy. I've already set the mask flags in DSMapStudio for all 5 Scarab Heads they want me to replace with your beautiful hoods.
(Mask Flags = 33, 34, 37, 38, 62 through 64, 66 through 69, 75, 76, 81 through 94. For anyone else who would like use these to replace any other helm in the game without any clipping. Further steps are required with this mod, but they have been kindly detailed below by the author.)
Unfortunately, I did this before realizing there is a matbin component to it. Something I have no experience with yet. Figured it wasn't going to be as simple as dragging and dropping into my parts folder though. Reading your answer to Zerpst below seems to confirm as much. Kind of unsure what the next move is now. Do i need a separate matbin for each hood we include? It's probably better not to mix and match either though. Like, having the Red matbin on the White hood isn't going to make an Assassin's Creed hood, as much as it'll be a white hood with a pink sheen if i read the below correctly. Please help Wenasun?
Hi there ! Yes, each hood recolor requires its own matbins.
The Navy Hood has four matbins, located in the allmaterial-matbinbnd.dcx file inside the material folder :
P[HD_M_1395]_Fabric
P[HD_M_1395]_Fabric_Cloth
P[HD_M_1395]_Metal
P[HD_M_1395]_Metal_Cloth
In order to create the recolors, I had to edit some values inside the Fabric and Fabric_Cloth matbins, because like I said in a previous post, these two files contain informations that define the color of the interior of the hood and the cape, and the color of the speculars. The color of the exterior of the hood and cape is defined by the .dds texture inside the parts folder. So, in this situation...
Like, having the Red matbin on the White hood isn't going to make an Assassin's Creed hood, as much as it'll be a white hood with a pink sheen if i read the below correctly.
...it would definitely create an Assassin's Creed Hood ! Red inside, white outside. But the redish/pink sheen on the white exterior would look weird (by the way, I really don't know if I can use the words "exterior" and "interior" when it comes to clothing ? English is not my mother tongue, sorry about that).
I'm fairly new to Elden Ring modding, so I really don't know if what I'm about to suggest is going to work; but after setting your mask flags, maybe you could try renaming everything in the part folder, and try replacing the Scarab heads matbins with the matbins of one of my recolors, inside the allmaterial-matbinbnd.dcx file ?
The Scarab heads IDs are 2550 (Ash-Of-War Scarab), 2551 (Incantation Scarab), 2552 (Glintstone Scarab), 2555 (Crimson Tear Scarab), and 2560 (Cerulean Tear Scarab).
Let's pretend you want the Emerald Hood to replace the Ash-Of-War Scarab head. Firstly, I'd open and edit the hd_m_1395 and hd_m_1395_l dcx files inside the parts folder, replacing every "hd_m_1395" with "hd_m_2550" (without forgetting to rename the textures inside the tpf file inside each .dcx !)
Then, I'd try replacing the matbins files.
The Ash-Of-War Scarab matbins are:
P[HD_M_2550]_Body
P[HD_M_2550]_Rune
P[HD_M_2550]_Wing
P[HD_M_2550]_Wing_Cloth
You could try deleting these matbins, then duplicate the Emerald Hood matbins, and rename them like this:
P[HD_M_2550]_Fabric
P[HD_M_2550]_Fabric_Cloth
P[HD_M_2550]_Metal
P[HD_M_2550]_Metal_Cloth
If this doesn't work, well, I'm afraid I can't help you further. :( Just renaming and replacing files seems a little bit too easy, I assume there must be some extra step(s) needed to make everything work. My main concern (in the example above) is that, maybe, somewhere we don't know, there's something that tells the game to look for and use the Body/Rune/Wing/Wing_Cloth matbins for the Ash-of-War Scarab Head; and I'm afraid just replacing everything wouldn't magically change that into "ok, use Fabric/Fabric_Cloth/Metal/Metal_Cloth instead". I just learned how to edit textures, so my modding knowledge is very limited, sadly.
By the way, if you somehow manage to replace the Scarabs with the Hoods, I'd be very glad to see a screenshot of your group wearing all different-colored hoods ! :)
It did not, But I am certain this is entirely due to my own error. I need to get quite a bit more educated in how this all works, and i will. Just need a few more up-to-date tutorials with the new tools. AquaTools, WitchyBND, FLVer 2, and the like. So far, the most informative videos are still referencing BBTools + Yabber. I'm having a harder time than i should understanding it all. Still, I do Appreciate the follow up Wenasun. Thank you. 😁
Always loved this hood/cloak. Would've been nice if FS allowed us to dye things in the future. Thanks for the recolors!
Also, I'm trying to match the hood to the Warrior's set. EDIT: Yeah, it's too bright. Selfish request, but would you consider making one that matches the Blue Cloth set with the border/embroidering removed?
A dye feature would have been really nice indeed !
Removing the border/embroidering would require quite a bit of work, sadly. Someday, maybe I'll work on some other recolors, less saturated, but right now I don't have the time, I'm really sorry.
It might be possible with the appropriate knowledge, but I don't plan on doing this, I'm sorry. Editing a model is a lot harder compared to just editing textures.

I'll probably need to update the mod in order to make it compatible with the DLC. Thanks for the heads up !
EDIT: Looks like everything is working fine on my end. Do you have any other mod installed ? The last update broke a lot of them.
