I'm using this mod in combination with my Steam Controller Config settings to use Relative Mouse output on the right stick, and the end result is a super silky smooth camera with no strange dead space forced auto centering and, with this mod, no weird wobble after 2 seconds either. Just a really static camera unless you move it, and much smoother than the native joystick camera controls which seem to have a strange gap between horizontal and vertical.
For anyone interested I made a quick guide on Steam here https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3304726344 and you might be able to find my controller community config in steam by searching Kayin (though, it's only set up for my ps5 controller).
Does this fix the camera automatically "levelling" when you walk around and move the right stick? For instance, if you walk and SLIGHTLY push the right stick down and left, the camera actually goes UP to level out. its so annoying and i never see anyone mention it.
I just tested this mod and it does not fix the issue with the camera vertically centering when rotating the camera horizontally.
I have a feeling it's not something that can be fixed with mods. People have been complaining about the issue since the game came out and no mod has ever fixed it. Even Cheat Engine tables with very detailed camera override options don't fix it.
If anyone isn't familiar with the issue, here is how you can see it yourself:
Using the right stick on your controller, tilt the camera so that it is looking upward or downward.
Start moving in any direction. The camera angle does not change as long as you do not touch the right stick.
While moving, tilt the right stick either left or right to rotate the camera horizontally.
The camera rotates horizontally AND also moves vertically, trying to re-center the vertical axis.
The vertical camera centering in step 4 is what we don't want. No other game does this, just Elden Ring. It is annoying as all hell. This is purely a controller issue; it does not occur when moving the camera with a mouse.
Before anyone chimes in and claims that this was fixed in an early game update, you are thinking of a different issue. That update allowed you to toggle off the camera's automatic centering when moving, regardless of touching the right stick or not. That has nothing to do with the issue described above.
I can confirm weirdness when using a gamepad. Not sure about vertical adjustment mentioned by the OP. My problem is horizontal. When changing the character's moving direction and simultaneously trying to rotate the camera, the game sometimes jerks the camera backwards from the direction you were trying to rotate. I think I've first noticed this issue when I started playing ER, without any mods, and this was one of the reasons I switched to KBM. Pretty sure this is a built-in problem with the game. It would be amazing if this mod could fix this behavior. It would make ER playable with a gamepad.
I just posted above a potential and significant improvement to camera control when using the joystick on a controller, by using Steam Controller Config and setting the right stick to use Relative Mouse output.
I've been struggling with the camera for 500+ hours now. Specifically the irritating behavior the game has when "slightly" pressing a direction on the right stick while moving forcing the auto centering even when auto centering is disabled (this, I believe, is a holdover from the original disable auto centering mod found on this site that I'm pretty sure From Soft just copied over as is). When it happens, say if you are running to the right, but slightly adjusting camera to the left, auto centering kicks in for a second and will move your camera right instead until you hit some dead zone threshold where it stops doing that.
I made a quick guide on Steam here on how to do it https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3304726344
Combined with this mod (thank you!), it actually makes this game feel like a brand new game for me. No longer am I struggling to fight against the camera when trying and track an enemy or object while galloping around on Torrent.
Now I can look at exactly what I want to, with precision and no thought of worrying about fighting the camera.
Huge thanks for this mod! This camera jerking was making the game unpleasant for me, and I'm pleased to report that the mod fixes it, at least when using KBM controls. This is an essential fix everyone should install.
