Before posting any issues with seams, graphical glitches and other errors, could you first:
a) Check it is actually my mod and not another mod they have installed causing the problem- ie. stuff my mod does not affect.
b) Check that the problem isn't already there in the original game (ie. without my texture pack).
Also, if some or all the new textures don't appear in game, please make sure you have read the "Installation instructions" AND the "Trouble Shooting" section of the description first.
Please install the 4GB mod or equivalent when using this mod. If you have crashes, please install it and try again before posting.
Quick update for Tale of Two Wasteland users- burner9875 has kindly just created and released a pregenerated LOD mod for use with my texture packs for users of Tale of Two Wastelands!
I owe a huge thank-you to burner9875 for creating this mod, I sincerely appreciate his amazing efforts here. Fantastic work :D
AND- he has also today created FO3 NMC's Pre-generated LOD mod, to complement my texture pack here, it ties distant landscape with my texture pack graphics for a more unified look, so please check it out- you need this to finish the look of this mod!
great mod. but I noticed that the doors on rivet city where moved and people where walking around in their underwear so I am having to uninstall this mod plus the items i buy for my house in megaton dont appear. I tried all packs and same result. God Bless
This is purely a texture replacement mod. There is no esp, no edits to cells, nothing that can cause the issues you are describing. I suggest you download FO3Edit if you have not already done so, and look to see which mods in your load-order are actually culpable.
Ok dont hate me but i uninstalled this, it might be bethesda game engines fault. But in my own personal experience i find the vanilla default textures are 10000x more appropriate to the gameworld theme than NMC's texture pack is. NMC textures just dont look like they belong inside the game. It makes the gameworld appear odd/strange. Maybe it would look better if i modded other things as well but for now im going back to the default fo3 textures.
its crazy to me that fo3 textures have no upscaled version that people can enjoy. None. Zero. The default textures are fantastic they are just too low resolution.
if you think i dont have any clue what im talking about i will use the most common NMC texture you see the most often, the rocks, the most prevalent texture in fallout3. The original fo3 rock is light-grey with greenblue watermoss hues and they actually look wet near the water. NMC's rocks are just black with chalky white veins for added detail.. And makes it impossible to understand the shape of said rock unless you run up really close to it. NMC's rock texture, in my opinion, does not attempt to wrap around the rock properly like the vanilla ones definately do
Can I just say, coming back to Fallout 3 after 10 years, it really just makes me appreciate the time and effort you put into these realistic textures which is far above the AI slop that is floating around. I never used to care about "rescale" retextures, until I saw what an actual artist who puts their time and effort into their work can achieve, and wow does it show, despite how far you've come with your skills this still holds up all these years later. Thank you, and thank you for making my umpteenth playthrough that much more enjoyable!
No experience modder here, just wanted to give my old fav game a crack in 2025. Didn't like Vortex mod manager, plus it doesn't work with the latest game version. Just wanted to play vanilla Fallout with some better textures and keep a careful eye on what I'm changing.
For anyone in the same boat (Steam version 1.7.0.4, i.e. not downgraded for mod managers), here's my learnings:
You don't need to perform the Large Address Aware Enabler mod, it seems this latest version of the game has this enabled already (you can download FO3_3GB_ENABLER pack from that mod and run as described but just check the header of your vanilla fallout.exe to confirm for yourself)
You definitely need to perform the ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated! mod. As per many of the latest comments there, the auto installer doesn't seem to work so well anymore. Do it manually, it's quite simple. Just make sure you're editing the CORRECT .ini file. Seems .ini.BASE & .ini.BAKED are newish (?) and there to confuse you. Turn file extension view on and edit plain old Fallout.ini from the folder with your saves in it. Goddam I went around in circles following outdated ass comments before I figured that out...
Copy paste your new textures folder into DATA folder and it finally loaded up for me and I was happy :)
Wild that my tiny XPS13 can play this game in High settings with Large textures and run smoother than the old 360 did... What an age.
This mod isn't "obsolete". The mod you linked requires a bunch of additional mods that may not play well with TTW. I'm sure it's a good mod, but this one is simpler, for people who just want a quick and dirty texture pack.
@mistertropical How can the BEST texture pack for FO3 be obsolete ?? Please take a closer at your suggestion - those textures are "simply" upscaled vanilla more or less, while NMC has made completely new textures filled with detail and yet lore friendly, by far a better quality, tbh some of them could use a higher resolution :)
@Ariz0naTea You are right about the obsolete part, but Luxor's - and NMC's texture are simply vanilla replacers, why would those require a bunch of additional mods ?
@NMC I think my meaning about these textures are clear, but please please consider upscaling some of them, like it's done with the Megaton set, modern computers can handle them - thanks for all you AWESOME textures :)
@Badiser, thanks for expressing your views as sometimes if a mod author attempts to defend their work, it can come across as arrogance or being oversensitive to criticism. I'd like to think I'm neither... I've said before that taste is subjective and a personal thing so I'm always surprised when I receive definitive statements like the OP expressed as it can be perceived as an attempt to wipe away in a single sentence what I tried to achieve at much time and effort. Everyone can judge for themselves, they can see what they prefer and choose whichever mod. I'm in no competition with anyone except myself, I achieved what I set out to do already.
You make a good point regarding upscaling- I was limited by the hardware of the day, many textures and normal maps were downsized and compressed to keep performance and stability optimum, and I even had to create the Large Address Aware Enabler mod to even enable the mod to work without crashing. If I were to make the mod again now, and modesty aside for a moment, it would likely be a jump in quality and in keeping with the capabilities of todays hardware. That said, I may actually consider an upscaling and revision of this mod at some point, thank you for the idea... my NMC's Texture Bundle for Fallout 4 mod I believe that is a better example of the texture work I can produce now, so it is tempting to revise and update this mod at some later date as you have kindly suggested.
Well, please do that, I will eagerly await any news from you, ofc no pressure - but it would be soo AWESOME - I just love FO3 :)
One of the nice details with your textures, is your "build in" real headlights, displays, meters and much more, also surface details like concrete, metal and stone. Also worth mentioning is you normal maps, many of them looks almost like parallax... Vanilla and other overhauls are far to cartoon like for my taste, the more realistic stuff really adds to the immersion..
Allow me to suggest a few things, first of all it's architecture and dungeons (vehicles could also use some love), and your 2K textures are mostly great, but some of the shared (those divided into four pieces) should always be 4K, but please don't change your old style :)
In FO4 I first of all use your's and Flacon oil's textures - Thank you for every thing.. Cheers !
Hello, can anyone please post some simple instructions how to do NMCs_Texture_Pack + FO3LODGen + FO3 NMC's Pre - Generated LOD? I use Vortex. Whats the order of doing things?
You need to turn archive Invalidation on to get the textures correct. If you are using Vortex select Fallout 3 as your profile then go to dashboard (top left corner of Vortex). There you will see an option called Archive Invalidation it will be displaying a No click it and change to Yes. And thats it, hope it fixes things for you.
Hi ! Can you fix the pristine vending machine in player house? I see in fallout nv retexture it is done and it's annoying that the map from the regular one is overlaid on it, thanks :)
