2015/06/05 - Updated Dogmeat Whistle to 1.2 - Removed the quest completed message when the Dog Whistle is added to the player inventory, added stay and follow messages, changed equip and unequip sounds.
2015/06/04 - Updated Dogmeat Whistle to 1.1 - Fixed an issue with Dogmeat returning to Vault 101 if the player character moved a certain distance from him while he was waiting.
FYI: The dog meat whistle mod is not added to you inventory after exiting the vault, nor is it added after finding and friending dogmeat. I had to load it with the console command. If you add the mod after leaving the vault, it will be in your inventory.
In all honesty, Fallout 4 of course seems to be much more advanced. And I think there are some follower mods for Fallout 3 that are quite advanced as well, although I've never tried them as I only use Dogmeat as a follower - and I like simplicity. Anyway, I'm using Dogmeat Whistle all the time - it's very convenient to just have to press a key. Also, I actually released this the same day as the Fallout 4 trailer was released, so I stole the "Let's go, pal!" line from it.
Yeah, I kind of like it. I mean, it looks great, but it's a bit over the top for my taste - I'd like a more subtle tattoo better. Also, I think I'll set up my player char as a separate race so she can have unique textures as it looks kind of weird with all females having the exact same tattoo. Well, except Raiders.
If you made something for the community that did that, you would be one famous modder. All I ever hear from people that sport ink is that very thing. "Why can't I just have my player with the tattoo alone." Hook it up Ark!
Heh, I don't even consider myself a modder, but rather a player who dabbles with really simple mods and/or copies how it's done from other mods and/or get help from others when needing functioning scripts etc.
The easiest way would probably be to do as in the Custom Races mod for Skyrim:
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/8720/?
It basically has cloned copies of the races so you can be Custom Nord, with exactly the same traits etc. as a vanilla Nord, but have a separate body as the folders are different. The downside is that this would mean that you'd have to make patches for all hair packs etc., so they'll work for these custom races as well. I wonder if it's possible to use FOSE scripting for this, i.e. have a menu from which you easily can switch between bodies/texture sets ingame, without actually affecting the chosen race. I'll check into it.
No, he must be following for it to work, so it won't work if he's fired or have returned to Vault 101 for some reason either. It basically has the same functions as the dialogue options to have him wait or follow, but without having to go through the dialogue.
BTW, I'd recommend Dogmeat Essential Token, linked to in the description, as a complement. It adds a chewtoy to the inventory which moves Dogmeat to the player's location. It's very convenient if he has returned to Vault 101 - or if you have told him to wait somewhere and then forgot him there.
Hope you like it. I've wanted a quick and easy way to make Dogmeat stay and follow when adventuring. The downside is that it takes up a hotkey slot and those are very limited. Guess I should try out an extended hotkey mod.

Just one question, could you please tell me the mods that your characters armor consist of? Really like the style!
I see you found a Bango tattoo that you like.

Body Control seems to do something similar:
