A corridor shooter? Seriously? Bethesda creates a huge RPG game, then their first DLC says "f*#@ RPG elements you're playing CoD now!" Why would they do this?! This isn't Fallout! All you do is shoot generic Chinese soldiers in the face! Also, the final boss is ridiculous! How can a normal, unarmored guy with a sword survive more than one guass round?! That doesn't make any sense!
my opinion, I didn't mind the dlc, its nothing great but I've always been interested with the great war. atleast the pitt and point lookout was a step in the right direction.
Was seriously underwhelmed by this add-on. Has naught to do with Fallout. I guess Bethesda had some leftover winter landscape footage from a game that never made it past the early development stage and they shoe-horned it into Fallout 3 as a cheap (for them) bonus in the form of a "simulator". Some folk seem over the moon with the 'fantastic' feature of being able to command a squad. A squad? Two dumb-and-dumbers and a horse's ass doesn't mean squat. That makes it a squat squad.
And Operation Anchorage is an RPG part without the RP. Glad I'm done with it I am.
I respectfully disagree. This is probably the DLC I enjoyed the most. The Pitt was mostly boring, Broken Steel was good, MZ was more frustrating than it needed to be and Point Lookout is just awful.
It wasn't an opinion. It's how I felt. Underwhelmed. You can't disagree with my feelings. They're mine. I feel them, not you... Or maybe you think that after reading your opinion my feelings about Operation Anchorage will change? Mmmm... Nope. I still feel the DLC was underwhelming...
Mind you, I don't disagree with your opinion of the DLC. And good for you that you enjoyed it. So did I. I was just... underwhelmed.
Operation Anchorage has always been one of my most enjoyed and loved Fallout DLCs and not just for Fallout 3 and while sure its nothing amazing it has to be said the almost endless combat and few sort missions topped off with some awesome new winter combat armor and your own squad made me love this DLC.
I have some mixed feelings about this DLC. On the one hand, it's pretty cool to get something different from this game, a more linear traditional FPS experience from this game, sorta get a bit of a different experience, really makes you appreciate the game a little more and gives you something nice to refresh your zest for the wasteland. It's also really nice to play in a new environment that isn't the wasteland, get some new scenery. On the other hand, it's really generic. It feels like a typical CoD game, there are some nice things about it to be sure, but it really isn't anything we haven't seen before in about a dozen other games. Plus, it's really short, the main quest can be beaten in about a single sitting, it only took me two because I got bored. The rewards are pretty nice, but they aren't all that great. Plus it's ending is total shaggy dog territory.
My biggest problem, however, is that you never actually get to go to the city of Anchorage. That's the DLC's biggest problem, you never get to explore a new city (or explore anything, really) is a real bring down and pretty much goes against the spirit of the entire game. Like I said, it's nice to see something different, but not that nice. I would have actually preferred if they took the Point Lookout approach and treated Anchorage as it's own area to explore.
Plus, Operation: Anchorage would be totally useless as a training simulation from a practical standpoint. Why would they automatically dispense ammo and health in a training simulation? Wouldn't it help your soldiers more to learn how to treat their wounds and scavenge ammo themselves? Why would you die for real if you die in a training simulation? Doesn't that negate the entire point of a training simulation? Why would you build a training simulation that actively kills your own men? The whole point of training is making sure those knuckleheads DON'T get killed.
Overall, I give it a 3/5. That's a soft three, really. Not really worth individual purchase unless it comes with the GOTY edition.
... benz smoke you made no sence, ITS A RPG GAME! MEANING ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN AT ANYTIME! SO BASICALLY, this happends in the rp world, soooo yeah... besides when your fighting the chinese you still earn xp
