Can you please make a list of all the items added by this glorious landfill? I must know what I'm getting myself into before I involuntarily decide to collect them all.
this is a very odd request given, yknow, what the mod is for, but is there any possibility of adding in a 'not-so-worthless' optional file? Always wanted a mod that let me be a scavenger not of rare oddly functioning weapons but of junk! Digging through every letterbox, crate, overturned fridge compulsively, jamming my pockets full of anything and everything that might be of use. Trinkets, baubles, shiny objects like a raven perched atop a junkyard nest.
er, fluffy description aside, what I'm asking is is there any possibility of releasing an optional file to the mod that makes some of the items worth even a little bit? Say, each is worth a couple of caps per weight, or has at least a little bit of junk value, even if its far less than the more pristine vanilla versions of the loot.
I've started several replies to your request with, variously, yes, no and maybe; so maybe I'd better think about it.
I'm hesitant to make this mod even slightly less worthless. I struggled over whether to give the player empty bottles after they drank a Nuka-Nada or a spoiled milk. I decided not to make the broken eyeglasses wearable (with a -1 perception penalty) because they wouldn't be completely useless. I've left some amusing items out because I couldn't figure out how to make them realistically worthless. So I'm kind of single-minded about it.
OTOH, more varied junk is better than just vanilla junk. I would be very interested in a mod that added new types of junk, especially if it didn't (much) increase the total available resources. If I made that mod, I think I would do it as a standalone companion to Worthless Mod.
One limitation is models - new items deserve or would at least be improved by new models, which I don't have the skilz or inclination to make. But I think you're right, that a lot could be done just by offering variations on vanilla junk - for example, steel toys, wooden toys, aluminum toys, ceramic toys and plastic toys, all using the same model. This clock has springs, that one has gears, this other one has circuits - same model. It seems like a pretty good idea, and it wouldn't require too much work or any new skilz.
Material Swaps might go a long way - to make a Rusty Toy, for instance. I flirted with doing them for Worthless Mod. I'm not much of an artist, but it doesn't take much skill to re-purpose vanilla Swaps; it's just super-labor intensive to trial and error lots of textures, and it's prone to ugly accidents slipping through. So I blew it off lol. (You seldom see the Worthless items anyway.) But if I did a Worth Less mod (lol), I would feel like I had to work with textures, at least, if not new models.
So now I have thought about it a bit while writing this, and I'm definitely interested in doing it as a standalone, with variations (names, weights, resources, maybe size, and hopefully cosmetics) on vanilla junk added into the vanilla LLists. (I just went to add it to my list of mod ideas, and it's pretty much already in there, with most of my comments/concerns above already included, totally forgotten, lol.) IDK if/when I will really do it... but that's usually what I say five minutes before throwing everything aside and getting to work, so maybe never, maybe for Christmas, or maybe tomorrow lol.
Came to request this exact thing. And while I agree it would make stuff not so worthless, we mod users crave more variety, in everything. Nothing will ever be enough. So I'm leaving a +1, but will not be disappointed if nothing comes of it, I will continue to value this mod regardless, for it may be imperfect, some may say worthless, but I love it.
Well I guess that settles it. Close the polls, it's a landslide.
I'll have to resist the temptation to call it Worth Less Mod...
So, I'm thinking of adding about an equal number of vanilla-equivalent items and degraded/reduced resource ones, plus a few high value goodies, expanding the loot lists but not increasing the number of drops, aiming to break even resource-wise. This is what youse guys wants?
you could add an oddity vendor that, for whatever reason, will purchase your worthless junk. After all, even an unclaimed winning lottery ticket has some intrinsic value to a person who collects things. There's already "lore" to that fact with the woman in Nuka world, Sierra Petrovita, is an avid collector of memorabilia. Moe in Diamond city is a collector of sorts. Why not one here? One persons 200 year old junk is another persons Caps.
You could give incredibly small values to "reasonable" worthless junk while leaving the remainder of the worthless junk a treasure unto itself.
I had a sorta similar idea for a mod with an eccentric NPC who buys pre-war money at high prices.
To skip a long story, I made a few Fallout 4 NPC's. They turned out okay, but it's hard to make them interesting without new voice files, and lip sync, and lots of stuff I don't know much about. I don't understand FO4 dialog trees either. So I did a few generic vendors with generic dialog, but it's pretty generic. (Just put up everything you got. Hey scavver lets trade.)
Generic might be good enough. I like making cells and spaces - maybe I could make a shop and give it enough character, and a few signs making it explicit, probably not that kind of explicit, to make up for the vanilla dialog.
IDK, but I'm not sure I want to add a Worthless junk collector to this mod. I think I'd make it part of a More Junk mod. All the junk would have a reasonable vanilla value, but the Connoisseur will pay 100x for certain items, maybe unique items. So if I do it, it will probably be in v.1.1 of the New Mod, if I do it. Unfortunately there is a delay, as I am occupied at the moment by having to sink the entire Japanese maritime fleet and win WW2 again, and it's only 30 December 1941. (Silent Hunter 4.)
(Hmm. Maybe Papa Finch at Finch Farm should pay extra for all junk...)
Yes! More Sierra please. Loved her in FO3, loved her even more in NW.
As for the PreWar money vendor, Better Goodneighbor has a security protectron who says nothing and just sits in a blasted out bank, but will buy/sell pre-war money. I honestly found that a bit interesting, even though it doesn't even move. So how about a robot! Like a "broken" 2077 version Roomba who demands nothing but items with the crud resource. It could literally just be a robobrain head on a floor, haha. (But would that then require Automatron? hmm). Could make it more like Proctor Quinlan, bring it things, it pays in some way, not through a barter menu..
Robots are tempting - I could use speech-to-voice, and no lip files. It's okay for some things - makes a great ATM machine, but maybe not a great Connoisseur d'crud.
OMG I just found out Sierra is in Nuka World. I should play that DLC some day.
He or She could be VERY eccentric and carry a Jangles the Monkey. The person could "talk" through the monkey like a ventriloquist dummy. hehehe. I don't think you need to move lips if you make the voice really comical - Micky or Minnie mouse sorta thing.
Not all things should be turn-in-able. Perhaps the person has a "wanted" list like the "Wanted Post-its" in Diamond City to go do generic quests.. but in this case, find some obscure bit of junk.
The Jangles thing would be awesome with ventriloquist animations. Do you think it would work without them? The dummy would look just like a regular moon monkey - no animation, no nothing.
There's a Jangles companion mod out there. I saw a video, it looks pretty good. Maybe a miniature Jangles NPC could be the dummy? (Or the vendor.)
I agree that not all Junque should be "collectible." I will make some special items for that.
Some new Low Value Junk (10-90% vanilla values, any buyer) Some new Medium Value Junk (~100% vanilla values, any buyer) A little bit of new High Value Junk (110-200% vanilla values, any buyer) A few unique pieces Special Collectible Junk (Very high values, one buyer only.)
Maybe a category of unique valuables with more buyers - the Mona Lisa or whatever.
Junk quests are a cool idea. An otherwise worthless matching bookend. A cap to a fancy pen that's missing a cap. An uncirculated 2077 Anchorage Commemorative penny to complete a coin collection.
WW2 is up to 2 Jan 1942. (I've already sunk half of Japan, so hopefully they will surrender early this time.)
I don't think the monkey needs to move its mouth. Just the fact the vendor always carries it is freaky in its own right. You could even make pack armor like the little bears and such and make her/him wear that.
Could possibly add a more end game scrapper perk that lets you get a few materials (like at most one per mat) out of some of the junk? For some of the items that look like they could still be salvaged.
If possible, could also make a workbench or automated box system that will attempt to extract materials from the worthless junk and requires the max scrapper perk to craft?
Oh, you could swap out the scrapping station that basically does jack all for that particular function too. (or add an upgraded one with the extra function, just in case mod conflict)
dont forget there are already old machine in the various librari to exchange vanilla overdue book and library token for other vanilla junk (and not soo junk sometime)
also +1 for new model im prety shure you could get someone to help with simple model (maybe not on millenia level cause the texture alone would make them more interesting than vanilla junk)
Oh my god I found it. I finally found it. I've been looking for this exact mod for about four years now, since I saw it once as a ghost on bethesda.net (or at least a mod VERY similar to it, that no longer exists there). Hell, I could have seen it in a video on YouTube. But I remembered this mod. It's stuck in the back of my head ever since I saw the 'rusty injector' and 'expired coupons' as an item that could be picked up in a trash can. I even fell in love with the more silly items because it fell perfectly into my own sense of humor (to the point where I've done similar in mods for other games, LOL! To think that it was this mod that gave me the inspiration and I didn't even realize it).
This mod is literally the only mod I have ever wanted in my load order, and for so damn long. When I tell you I've tried every single combination of words possible to try and find this mod on Google and on the Nexus, I mean it. And I never was able to. I literally just happened to stumble upon it while browsing through nexus' "Immerssion' filter. And how stupid of me to not do it sooner.
Hopefully this mod still works and even if it doesn't I'll do the work myself in xEdit to make it work. I'm so glad I finally found it again. I loved this mod. I love this mod. I will love it until the day the nexus implodes and Bethesda Softworks ceases to exist. I'll love it until the sun burns out.
I know I sound like extremely dramatic but I am being honest when I say it's taken me this long to find this mod again. I'm never letting it go now 🥹
And who knows. Maybe it was a different mod that added in useless junk items, but if it exists, I certainly haven't seen it again.
How hasn't anyone made a video on this yet? Paddy, please, I want someone to have a playthrough with this installed. This will be my first mod I install when I get Fallout 4. I love junk anyways so forget Shaun and avenging my wife's death, I'm the hoarder of the wastelands.
It is hard to explain how amazing this mod is. By adding worthless junk to the loot lists, this mod changes looting from a a fairly passive activity into a more interactive (and dare I say immersive) experience of actively looking through ruins for useful items. This, in turn, makes actually finding something useful that much more exciting and fun. On top of that, the execution is brilliant. The worthless items are varied and funny enough to make the entire game more fun. The humor contained in the item names captures the essence of the original fallouts (I and II) in a way that few other mods do. Fantastic job and thank you for sharing!
The following is meant to be constructive feedback. It is not a request for the author of this mod to do anything. It is a response to the author's comment on the description: "Hmmm, so many views, so few DLs.".
I believe this mod would be appealing to a lot more people if the items added were all immersive. A lot of the items are just unimmersive synonyms of the word "crud" or "rubbish". I can imagine not many people find the items with ironic or funny names to be immersive. I'm not against humor, I just appreciate immersion and added value more than humor when it comes to mods. I suppose this mod does live of to it's name though.
If someone doesn't like a particular item added by the mod they can remove it from the leveled lists using fo4edit.
Examples of unimmersive items: - Help! I'm trapped in a lunchbox factory! - Night of Joy Broom - Perfect Crap - Noxious Trumpery - Legendary Useless Rubbish
Items below aren't necessarily unimmersive on their own, but finding recurring instances of them everywhere is not immersive: - PhD Thesis (Final Draft!) - Dear John Letter - Divorce Papers
Examples of ironic items: - Expired Massachusetts Driver's License (every driver license is expired 200 years after the war)
Ideas if you, or anyone else, decided to create a new version: - The crud component is not needed. - The many items synonymous with "crud" or "gunk" are not needed and feel like filler content. - Some items can yield no building components but may be somewhat valuable to traders. - Some damaged items can yield some useful components instead of nothing at all. For example, a "Gutted Telephone" could yield only fiberglass since someone broke open the phone case just to take the circuitry and copper. - Consistency with wording. Example: "Rusted Zippo" and "Rusty Injector". Use either "rusted" or "rusty" consistently. "Rusted" sounds better in my opinion. - This has been addressed in earlier comments, but don't add a space before the name of each item.
This feedback may not be suitable for an update to this mod. It's probably better suited for a new mod that can hopefully have a more successful launch than this one did. Maybe call it "Immersive Junk and Damaged Items".
I have to say, if there was some way to make the "Help! I'm trapped in a lunchbox factory!" drop exclusively from Vault-Tec lunchboxes, I'd laugh my ass off if I saw that in game.
I completely agree with everything in this post. I got excited when I saw this mod, but when I saw the names of some of the items I was disappointed and decided not to download it. So many of the item names are too goofy or not lore friendly for my taste. It's a shame, because I would really like a mod like this with better names for useless stuff.
Thanks for the feedback. The short version is, I like it the way it is. I completely disagreed with everything in the OP.
I can easily believe that some of the items drop too frequently, but I did try pretty hard to avoid it, especially for the (pretty rare) goofy items. (The bland, repetitive leveled lists in the game don't make it easy.) And I did try to keep it lore-friendly and in keeping with Fallout humor. You might be surprised how hard it is to come up with a couple hundred useable names for a relatively few unique objects, and where all the objects are supposed to be worthless and unrecycleable.
Regardless, I say give the mod a try anyway. (I'm pretty sure) it's completely safe to uninstall.
Completely agreed. Initially the mod seemed appealing to me because it'd actually force me to sift through the garbage and think about what I want to pick up instead of just pressing R. Unfortunately too many items, as you rightfully pointed out, are weirdly named, even for Fallout standards.
Wish there was a more 'serious' version of the mod, because the idea behind is indeed interesting.
I would also be more inclined to download a more serious version of this. I feel with this level of immersion, the more serious tone fits the target a bit more.
I gotta say if this mod added scrap components or had a little sell value to them it would of had a lot more downloads people like to loot EVERYTHING for a reason if thats to sell scrap or use for decor or put into a collection box
love the mod together with various junk mod, don't understand why they are not made into one bigger mod but i merged them in my game. Only wanted to say it's a great mod, only thing i dislike is that it uses vanilla models, even retextures would be cool to see. But great anyways¡
What Clothes and Armour you find in the Wasteland, and on the enemies you kill is worthless, and Disease Ridden.
- Zero Scrap - Zero Worth - Breaks after a couple of hits ...... mods do this, such as Combat Strip Lite ( on LL ) - Wearing it gives you a Disease Effect, also drains your Stamina if its Blood Soaked, from someone you killed.
GREAT mod! I have to pause, and look at what I'm grabbing from containers now. Sometimes, I still pick up crap by mistake... and then I decorate my place with it. Just like IRL! Thanks for this!
