2022 update You should be using Start Me Up Redux instead! It fixes many bugs and issues with this old version.
.
...if you still want the old version, read on below...
Known issues with Start Me Up: * This mod may conflict with some mods that edit dialogue and quests, including total overhaul mods. See the FAQ on the main page for details. * If you are upgrading to version 6.x, you NEED to start a NEW GAME (see the changelog for details). * Sometimes the player voices are a little too dramatic or emotional, considering it's not your child anymore. Not much I can do about that. * Start Me Up is probably NOT compatible with "Weaponsmith Extended" according to reports here. * On rare occasions, and if you have a large load order, for some reason the script engine gets overloaded and the Vault 111 interior Gear Door won't open once you go in the vault. If you run into this problem, you can use the console command TCL to go through the door(s) and explore the vault if you want, and you can use the console commands set SMU_CanTalkToNick to 1 and completequest SMUQuest which will basically skip over the "Rumor of a Vault" quest.
Any other issues are very likely to be caused by a mod conflict or just having too many mods installed and overloading the game's script engine. Learn how to use Fo4edit to check for conflicts and resolve them.
I have uploaded the source scripts for v6.0 and opened up the permissions for any non-commercial use, with credit of course.
Since my wife and I had a child last year, development on this mod has stopped, and I've hardly played any video games, much less Fallout 4. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've even turned on my gaming PC. In a nutshell, any attempt to be a good father requires a lot of time, and that time has mostly come out of video games and other hobbies. I also have a full time job, I maintain my own home and automobiles, and of course there are the demands of friends, family, and the trappings of modern life.

I am pretty sure this mod breaks the Minutemen questline entirely. It seems When Freedom Calls REQUIRES Out of Time to be finished first, but because you dont get Out of Time when you use this mod, When Freedom Calls will never start. Not a huge issue if you hate Preston and the Minutemen, but I still figure I'd mention it.
I appreciate this mod because the redux does not work in Fallout 4 VR, this one does. Wish Redux did but can't get everything we wish for. Not to mention Fallout 4 VR has not received the lovin' from bethesda as does the non-VR version. i.e. it doesn't have .esl abilities and a whole lot more (like no DLCs, no access to creation club content) Wish bethesda would get off of its rear end and give us some next gen lovin' on fallout 4 VR. And yes, I have both VR and Non-VR. Heck, only reason I got VR beyond just recently purchasing a headset is because Fallout 4 in VR has jumpscare. Nothing like a feral ghoul sneaking up from behind on you in VR. :p LoL!
I would like an option to be a member of vault 81 who either was banished or wanted to explore the commonwealth. A suggestion that I'd think would be cooooool :)
Does this version work with NG? The redux one threw me off because of its hard requirement of the unofficial patch, which is something I've avoided for the longest time.
For those having issues with this, if you haven't already done so, I would first try disabling all mods except for anything "looks menu" related and this mod, once you've left the vault "Do a Save" then reenable all mods disabling this one as it's no longer needed then resave again.
Okay, ive tried to make a clean install of fallout 4 multiple times now after i messed up on london, and start me up seems to break fallout 4 entirely. I have no idea how, but after finishing character creation, if you move a muscle it puts you in an endless loading screen. Ever after disabling it seems to break, so I have to reinstall the game yet again.
I have solved it. This was an issue with having fallout 4 after trying to uninstall fallout london, and any mod would actually cause this. Unfortunately, I do not remember the full process. Pretty sure you delete "Fallout4" from My Games under Documents, and then go into your fallout 4 main files(you can do this by going on steam if you use it, go to the settings icon, go to manage and then press "Browse Local Files". Delete anything that is NOT in a folder. That should do it. Afterwards, reinstall. Test a game on Vanilla and then test a game with a mod.
