-Book to unlock building of Boat base itself
Second stage (after collection of first book/stage completion) is:
-Book to unlock Boat workbench to allow building of attachments wherever you can build stuff
-Book to unlock Tiny Home attachments to be built
Third stage (after collection of both books from second stage):
-Book to unlock Guards
-Book to unlock more Gun variations
-Sailboat body
-Fishing boat body
All books in each stage need to collected before can progress to next stage, but not all books need to be collected in that stage if nothing in the following stage is of interest.
Also, the books within a stage itself need not be collected in any specific order.
As for building the actual boats (when that is made possible during quest progression), there’s a category in the workshop menu where you will build the base of the boat and a workbench.
Usually the category appears all the way to the right in the main workshop menu.
Then just build unlocked parts from the built workbench and equip them onto the boat (like you would a companion).
Breakdowns:
-Get out of the vehicle.
-Look at vehicle and press R to 'Do Stuff'.
-Click 'Breakdown' menu option.
-Click the options to see what happened.
-Once you find the issue, it will direct you to build 'Mechanics Tool Box'.
-Go into workshop mode, build a 'Mechanics Tool Box'.
-Use 'Mechanics Tool Box'.
-Notification should pop up right there that you've done your thing and everything is fixed.
...or can just destroy a boat, any boat, and that will clear it. Blow it up, hit 'Self Destruct, scrap it.
(DO NOT KILL THE BOAT WITH COMMAND CONSOLE...I cannot stress this enough, command console usage is not supported in any way...Teh Bad Things Will Happen...seriously)
...now, if you did that and it still didn't clear, Bug report it please.
then get rid of old boat base piece.
Also, and this goes for any mod really, best to keep a save from before updating in case need to go back to old version.
Something new with 0.95.8:
-Sometimes on game load, fast travel or zone back to where boat is, it will become a bit out of shape or slow or slightly out of position (more often on the boats that are just sitting around, doing nothing, as fallen into disuse...if you have more than one boat.)
Go into it's inventory and un-equip body, then re-equip body and exit inventory (boat will flicker a bit).
I'm looking at this as a game mechanic (though, admittedly, an odd one), in that the boat if left alone will kinda fall apart, so needs 3 seconds of your involvement to correct it again.
...I mean, come on, the thing was made by a Lawyer/Soldier that learned how to make them from a few magazines...they are just flat out bound to fall apart often.
Hope you have another bad day.
1) The boat WORKSHOP that you install on the boat as a part of the boat, WILL NOT help you repair the boat (umm, WHY?!?), it only allows you to build an EXTERNAL BOAT WORKSHOP that you then STORE IN THE ATTACHED BOAT WORKSHOP FOR LATER (how ANYONE works this complete mess out is beyond me as it's inexcusably ridiculous!!). So you need to build a workshop within a workshop to then be able to build some repair patch THAT DOESN'T APPEAR FOR YOU TO BUILD until the stupid breakdown happens, if you want to be able to fix the boat without a long trek to a boat workshop elsewhere. Seriously, were you high as a kite when you made this?!? Your ridiculous and juvenile messages that pop up kind of show you must be, frankly.
2) The boat workbench doesn't recognise steel or circuitry unless they're pure Steel or Circuitry; if you have items that have Steel or Circuitry in them, the boat workbench will still think you have NO steel and NO circuitry. So to even build a stupid workbench to store in the stupid boat THAT ALREADY HAS A WORKBENCH you have to have a damned junk recycler mod AND have it in your inventory as well. Seriously this guy can make mods like my dead grandmother can still make a Sunday roast.
AND
3) EVEN IF you have ALL THIS IN PLACE by some sort of SACRED DIVINE MIRACLE, if you break down ANYWHERE away from land, YOU CAN'T GET INTO THE STUPID BOAT AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE ERROR MESSAGE THAT TELLS YOU (only AFTER you try it the first time, of course, WHAT ELSE?!?) THAT YOU CAN'T GET INTO A BOAT WHEN YOU'RE SWIMMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO if you actually WANT to play a survival run LEGITIMATELY it's a big UP YOURS from this modder, as the ONLY way you will EVER get your boat back is by console, using the TCL command to hover above it out of the water, activating the "Ride" function and quickly turning off TCL again before it also causes freezing issues.
How can the same guy that makes the truck mod with the same name work SEEMLESSLY, make this piece of rotten monkey saliva????????????????????? THERE'S NO EXCUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>THE ICING ON THE CAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Drumroll, please:::::
IT ALL HAPPENS MORE THAN ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HOLY F*CKING YYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously man, there's something wrong with you.
"...I mean, come on, the thing was made by a Lawyer/Soldier that learned how to make them from a few magazines...they are just flat out bound to fall apart often.
Oh, but the truck won't, leaving you to think the boat won't. Yep. Modders being totally consistent, ahem, as usual, ahem, uhuh.....
Beyond ridiculous.
If the truck mod didn't need it, neither did this. Get rid of "breakdowns".
I named my boat "Breaky McBreakdowns" because that's what it does. It's not fun, it's just tedious & annoying.
So it even breaks down when you're not using it.
This guy is a confirmed sadist.
I've got every magazine. I've got no problem creating the addon parts, no problem placing the workshop parts. All of that works perfectly. But I can't actually do anything with the boat because the menu you use to do that isn't there.
Any idea what I can do to force it to give me the 'Do Stuff' menu?
you can then place boat parts in it them equip and you
r done
First try to make sure the boat is floating and not underwater. If that doesn't work try moving lower in load order and if that doesn't work try a reinstall. If none of those work I will need a copy of your load order to check for conflicts.
Mod's last on my load order already, it's the most recent thing I installed.
If it's a corrupted install NMM's being a dick again, because I installed it that way. It *should* be in like flynn. Of course, NMM has had trouble in the past with installing mods properly...

ORRR, I guess it's possible, the boats being made to no longer qualify for the button...but that's pretty far fetched.
I think I'd recommend trying one of our other mods that has a secondary prompt. The rock, I believe, is pretty light weight (available in the main workshop menu as soon as player leaves a settlement and returns to the center of another):

Actually, in this case after reading through this thread, it might be worth trying the mod closer to the *top* of your load order.
It's worth noting my game some some other odd shit. I have to re-build my bodyslide files pretty much every time I close the game or I get nasty saggy granny titties, my beautiful winter weather visuals are the result of randomly throwing in and partially uninstalling environmental mods until I got the look I wanted, and the game is in general pretty unhappy. 5 minutes to start it and I often have times where I can snipe people in buildings because the actors load in 2-3 minutes before the walls of their shitshack load in.
But yeah, if you tried the rock and it happens with that mod too, then this is absolutely not us or our mods, sorry.
How?
IDFK! That's the thing. All I did was start a new run(Or, well, load in my save from just out of V111 since the new game button CTDs on me) and prune a bunch of totally unrelated and superfluous gun mods from my load order, then bam, boats work fine. And they're pretty sweet! I did have a problem wherein the Fourth Dimension ate two sweet wood speedboats so I'm on a junk raft with the reinforced tires and twin rear-facing props, but that's pretty reliable so far, and once I have had to use the console to unequip and remove a minigun that the boat forced onto me after disembarking.
Only the dog and one human companion can ride shotgun, yah? I've got...a small party following me around and I can only get one of them and the mutt aboard before they just stop hopping on. I'm figuring that's because I'm one of those oddballs that runs multiple companions, might be an idea for a future version to add more seating options? Either way I love the boats now that they work.
Please feel free to, as it would be greatly appreciated, add anything (*anything*) you think might be of note to the existing bug report on that.
It's fairly rare, *very* random, and (very *very* sadly) so far unable to be reproduced in house here (though I fully feel it's a true issue, whether it be a conflict or bug). >
The companion thing may just be 'is what it is', though, just not enough slots.
Really on our minds recently though, as trying to figure an idea out for that for the upcoming APC (which just has so much room, that's it's fasar too expected that it would carry a lot).
Regardless, happy you got it working and are enjoying them.
(I'm honestly betting something was blocking the little Perk Install Quest from running...or blocking, beause they are limited by the game itself, the addition of the button)
On a less conclusive note, I was having a problem with the boats disappearing. i found a tenuous combination of things that has worked for me. It happened persistently on the save file that I mentioned where I had installed both boats and ridablebots for many hours of playtime before realising the incompatability. I couldn't solve that, and after restarting the save file from before the ridable bots installation it has only happened at the croup docks. I moved the plugin and mod to the bottom of the load order after that and it hasn't been an issue for more than a few boat trips sinve! sometimes the workbench that moves the closest boat to you seems to struggle/clip the boat into things and it has vanished in that circumstance. I have avoided many headaches with this mod by saving before getting out of the boat, or working on it. I make a hard save looking at the boat before I leave it, so that quicksaving during a quest won't lock me out of loading back if i return and it has vanished. hopefully I'm done with most of this as I believe most of the problem was from ridablebots occupying the same save file and some may have been cause by another mod making changes to the croup docks. I say that because I've seen in a youtube guide for the mod the far half of the wooden dock vanish, leaving the stairs and the boat workbench floating. I had the exact thing happen to me sometime. that's the only cause I can think of for the disappearing boat problem ceasing after changing the load order. the boats were disappearing everywhere on the last save even after removing ridablebots.
Last thing i would say is that the repair system is easy once you figure out the cycle of it. you will need a deployable raft, a tool box equiped on your boat, and a boat crafting bench stored IN the workbench OF the on-board toolbox. the toolbox is basically a portable settlement workbench. once you troubleshoot in the menu you can deploy the raft, then use the toolbox to place the boat crafting table on the raft and it will fix the boat once you activate it. this is why you have to craft the boat crafting bench before you start sailing or you will be f*****.
Hopefully this post helps someone. Here is a picture of my boat dock that i built at the bridge outside of hangman's plaza(mod) with expanded settlement borders from All Settlements Extended. Survival w/ survival saving holotapes, Nuclear Winter, Gasmasks. it's very compelling to have to set a fire to dry off after soaking myself to repair the boat. making a warm location patch for the interior cell of the boat home was a great idea too.
The base speed is 100 i think, i spent a while setting the multiplier to 2, 5, 15 etc. until i went into xedit and realised. 500 seems like a good speed to me, but this may cause partially loaded cells depending on your hardware. If this happens just adjust accordingly. have fun.
It took me a minute for me to figure out the mechanics. also i managed to corrupt the file by downloading too many mods at the same time but it works perfectly after a fresh download and install. there is a misleading thing where some of the components dont show themselves as equiped when selected but they actually are. now it's a sweet mobile base so that I don't have to weave through boston on my motorcycle to get to the southern part of the map from hangman's alley. thanks for the gem.
