Hey everyone, thank you so much for downloading and playing "The Machine, And Her"!
I recently did an interview with Bethesda about the project, which can be found here: https://bethesda.net/en/article/32AWU6xmyjmhTXrpBjmRbR/monthly-modder-nikanine _____________________________________________
Update July 2021: I now work in the industry as a Quest Designer and writer so I’m no longer able to provide assistance or updates for this project. Thank you to everyone for the incredible support over the years; it means more than I can possibly say!
I no longer know where to look and how to fix it! The first meeting with Kit and I cannot enter into a dialogue with her due to the fact that the window where the answer options should be located is empty, empty and narrow. I can’t find the ID of this task on the Internet so that I can at least miss a bad start. Someone tell me how to solve this problem.
I've just finished the Mod. It is good, thankfully the only problem for me was the brown face bug. I was pressing F5 all the time to avoid any other kind of problems. Yes, it was good, but far behind Ivy. Now it is time for Heather.
Is @Nikacola still alive? Twitter accound deleted. He said something about a new project. Any news?
After answering the phone in the managers office, and getting the co-ordinates, selecting "It's time for you to be honest" puts you in an unescapable dialogue tree. selecting "back" from the "tell me about bellweather" and "who sent you to the commonwealth" causes a softlock.
Would have loved to play it, but got game-breaking bugs pretty early on and i can't fix it, tried resting, resetting, etc. My saves have overwrote prior to the broken event occuring so now i'm out of options, and due to it failing early on i don't have any more motivation than the 30 minutes i have spent trying to find the solution myself considering there doesn't appear to be a section made to aid with bugs. Anyone looking to enjoy this should take note of the revival project, unfortunately it recommends a clean playthrough due to the amount of changes it makes, so i'll never get to play this.
a friend of mine wants me to try this mod as he feels it's the best damn follower mod to ever exist, and i have seen this mod page many times from other ppl talking about how great this mod is, and i got to be honest, and maybe this is going to come off as rude, but i frequently look for good looking female followers and this kit character isn't good looking, but i got to stop judging the book by it's cover and try this out, sorry i feel this way, it often makes me think twice before trying a mod, i also know this mod has a special follower framework that might make it hard to accept and limit my ability to change her looks so she's hot and not ugly, or i should maybe find a wig mod to make her at least look somewhat good.
Just finished this last night and it was really quite good. A little buggy here and there, but nothing game breaking for me at least. Mostly some weird clipping and fps drops from time to time. While I enjoyed it a lot, and I can see why it received such high praise, I think it may be just a little over blown. Just a little!
Not being able to initiate conversations with Kit was really odd considering you are specifically told to talk to her a lot. It made me think something was broken and I was missing stuff, but nope it's by design. Also there's a great deal of talk about the affinity system being so important and what you do determines what great perk/perks you get at the end. As if it were a very finicky system and your rewards would be vastly different. It completely leaves you in the dark to see how you are doing as far as I could tell, and I don't like that at all. Anyway, it seems there's only 2 outcomes, one route provides nothing, the other (from what I understand) is where you get the perks, and that's not the direction I ever take my characters.. So I guess I won't be getting any perks other than a follower I can't talk to.. So she will live out her days in a settlement. A shame really, I would have enjoyed having her along for the ride. Guess I'll just stick with Heather and Dogmeat.
Don't think for a second I'm not recommending this mod, I 100% think you should download and play through it, it's a good, dark ride. Well acted and clearly a lot of heart and thought was put into it. I can see why dude ended up with a gig at Bethesda. But curb your expectations if you think you'll be getting a great companion or anything that will stick with you for the entire play through of your game. Other than the story of course.. That'll probably haunt you for a bit haha
A patch/mod that adds dialog interactions with Kit would make this mod superb and would make her an entire play though companion for sure. I would have been more than content with that as my "perk" at the end of the quest. Not that I expect we will ever get that. Dudes got more important things to worry about than making a bunch of whinny nexus users happy haha "Well I think you should do this for free to make ME happy!"
I would definitely recommend making saves while conversing. I have found quite a bit of breaks in conversation and would have to reload a save to figure out what option I need to take to progress the conversation because it breaks. I even downloaded the revised mod of this and it still has breaks in conversation. I am at the facility with demos (not trying to spoil anything) and in an office and I cannot seem to complete the talk to kit. No matter what options I choose, I get to a point where it stops progressing in conversation. I feel like just using console to finishing that particular part.
I don't know about saving while conversing. I try to avoid saving when there's scripts running. I would recommend saving often, not quick saves! Never rely on auto/ quick or exit saves. I've had so many problems with saves getting messed up in the past. In skyrim and fallout. If you can't get her to finish the dialog, you might want to go back to a previous save before she was speaking. I didn't have any issues with her completing dialogs at all. At one point the audio went down quite a bit, enough to where I needed to adjust settings, but it all played like it should. Maybe I'm easier to please than other people, but I really didn't experience any immersion breaking bugs on my run. Just a little clipping and a fps drop at the entrance of the last location. My only real complaint is that I want more! Haha
The music at the end is pretty sweet.. so there's that haha.
I haven't been traveling with Kit since I finished the quest. Curious if Kat will ever make an appearance. It would be neat to find her in a cave somewhere.
Yes it was, but I rather travel to where she was raised and end that group. It sounds like a pretty horrific group, like raiders but more organized and disciplined. I haven't had the heart to let her go though. I keep her with me, that, and she fights better than the other companions in my opinion. Like if she gets close, she is very deadly with the blade.
I thought the same thing. It would be really cool to see the place she came from, but I highly doubt we will ever get it.
And yeah she is nasty in a fight. She's so tiny that it's kind of funny to look over and there she is whoopin on a super mutant. But my character is op as hell at this point. So I really don't need a powerhouse companion. I've got dogmeat and a revolving door of 1 or 2 other companions with me all the time and I still end up killing everyone we encounter anyway.. lazy companions. Dog meat helps more than any of them haha
ya, even with increasing incoming damage and one or two other companions, I still seem to do pretty well. Rocket launchers, however, still get me if I am not careful. I do wish that the affinity would be visible. I have not idea of what trust she has, if she has any, because it never shows any signs. The mod is awesome, but could use some improvement.
The affinity system disappointed me simply because there was no system to check on things. Even just a "how we doing?" dialog option would have been enough.
The dialog options do matter though. I played one part twice (when you first met kat) and even taking different "good guy" options, it plays out differently depending on what you say.
Since you made an in depth review I have a small question. Whenever you progressed, did this mod add new places/buildings for the storyline or did it utilize the ones already in the base game? Just for general compatibility
No, there was some changes. I use PRP and it did not seem to conflict. I did not seem to notice much stuttering near the areas it added things, but I do have a beefier machine and run 524 mods currently. I believe that everything was mostly interior, with doors leading to the interior. The only thing that I really see negative about the mod is the companion, in which you don't really know where you stand with her. I think the only building added was one, the rest had doors or hatches leading to an interior cell. The building added had a door leading into an interior cell, it wasn't just a building that you walk into without a loading screen.
The fps drop and clipping I had was only in the reception area of the final added interior cell. I'm running ultra on a high-low to mid tier amd build. R5 3600 with a rx 6650 xt. It could have been a mod conflict, I could be demanding to much from this setup with all the mods I have running or maybe a bit of both. I have a very similar mod list on a different install on my 13900/4090 rig. I should run though it and see if i experience the same issues. But I don't feel like playing it again right now. Haha
If it was Ukranian, it would be: For me, this mod is not legal. I want to have a few that for people go and kak they live, one description is little and will be corrected by otkuda she went to Ona. If it was Russian, it would be: No that module has run. As long As that people, where, where, where, wherein, not in, some, not where. Those were the only two languages that seem to have translated well, so I feel it is one of those translations according to Google.
Lol, I suppose so. It was kind of hard to really understand what he was trying to say, language barriers can be rough. I guess, in his native tongue, it was insightful.
According to Google Translate, it's Russian: "This mod is not over for me. I want to know what these people are where and how they live, one description is not enough and where she came from."
I agree. I did find myself really interested in seeing more about where she came from. I think that's why I ended up disappointed in the long run. It feels like it could be much bigger. But, that's a lot of work and dudes got a life beyond giving us more free content haha
Thanks for translating that. I was right, insightful!
