The Wonders of Supply Lines PLUS

This mod adds a new craftable item, the “Supply Line Dropoff Box” and a new location, the “Supply Depot”  Sadly, the location of the Supply Depot, like El Dorado and Atlantis before it, has been lost in the mist of time. Okay, it’s really just an interior cell with no access, but it sounded cool. Right? Right???

Uhmm.  Moving on…The Supply Line Dropoff Box can be found in the Workshop menu under RESOURCES > SUPPLY LINES PLUS. It comes in five (5) flavors:

  • Generic (Two Tone Green)
  • Minuteman (Two Tone Blue)
  • Brotherhood of Steel (Dark Gray and Green}
  • Railroad (Dark Red and Brown)
  • Institute (White and Orange)

The Supply Line Dropoff Box allows access to the Supply Depot’s shared inventory. Only one Dropoff Box, of any variety, can be crafted per settlement you currently own.

Oookay, but what’s so special….Wait, wait, wait. Let me tell you about the mysteries of the Supply Depot! The Supply Depot is a place of such wonder and power, that it is hard to fathom the true depth of its nature. Impressed yet? Sigh…Fine. What makes the Supply Depot so special is not that its inventory can be accesses in any settlement, well actually that is pretty special, but that once per in game day, all caps and other valuables like stimpacks, radaway, water, crops, flares, grenades and more is automatically transferred to the Supply Depot (See Articles Tab for complete list of what is transferred). Imagine, not having to travel to every settlement to pick up your protection money profits from vendors. Or, how about this…Want to lower the attack threat on any or all settlements? Now all of the excess crops and purified water can be automatically removed from the Workbench.

But I need those crops/water in my supply line for the other settlements! No worries, I’ve got you covered. With this special introductory offer, I’m willing to throw in the “Provisioner’s Keycard” at no additional cost. By placing this special keycard in any Settlement Workbench, that Workbench will be skipped when it comes time to automatically transfer caps and items to the Supply Depot. So, let’s say you have taken one settlement, say Red Rocket outside Sanctuary, and used it as a player home and have no settlers assigned. Settlement attacks require at least one (1) settler. So place a Provisioner’s Keycard in the Red Rocket Workbench and a Supply Line Dropoff Box in the settlement. Now once an in game day all excess crops and purified water is removed from all other settlement workshops except Red Rocket. Simple remove the excess from the Supply Line Dropoff Box and place them in the Red Rocket Workbench. Assuming Red Rocket is on the Supply Line, all those excess crops and water are available to other settlements while lowering their attack chance. Genius!

Uhmmm…I need another Provisioner’s Keycard. Sigh…Complain much?  Fine. Fine. When you are within activation distance of any Supply Line Dropoff Box you will find an EXTRAS menu (Default keybind is R on PC and X, I think, on Xbone). This will bring up a menu of options for you to choose from. They include:

  • Issue Keycard
  • Manually Update Supply Depot Storage
  • Stop/Start Automatic Updating
  • Issue Uninstall Chem (Only available on select models. See Installation section for more information)

Compatibility

Thanks to a question from a poster, BeechMasters, I realized I had never tested Supply Lines PLUS with mods that allowed for the creation of settlements outside of the ones in the base game. So I did. By and large, Supply Lines PLUS worked just fine.

The popular mod Conquest which allows you to build a campsite or full settlement almost anywhere in the Commonwealth, worked just fine with Supply Lines PLUS. I had no problems with the Workshop Workbench added by this mod updating the Supply Depot storage.

I also tested a number of mods that added pre-built settlement areas. These were not player home mods with no Workshop or a self contained Workshop like Home Plate. Rather these were Creation Kit created settlements just like what’s found in the base game. No surprise, these worked fine. Oh, this includes both settlements in exterior cells as well as settlements in Interior cells.

Truthfully, the only thing that Supply Lines PLUS seems to have a problem with, is Workshop Workbenches added by console. I’ll continue to look into it, but presently, I’m not hopeful.

The basic rule of thumb is: If a mod adds a settlement or a way to create a settlement that can be connected to the in-game supply line, then Supply Lines PLUS should work just fine.

And thanks to our Double Your Money Back Guarantee, if you do happen to come across a settlement mod that doesn’t work with Supply Lines PLUS, we’ll give you…well, double your money back. So, lets see 0 * 2 = …the end of the universe? Okay, lets forget that bit. But I do promise to look into it and see if I can make it work.

Installation

There are multiple choices for this mod. The Workshop Menu is script injected. You can choose to use my custom scripts, in which case you will need to use an Uninstall chem (available in EXTRAS menu) BEFORE removing the mod from your load order. Otherwise your Workshop menu could (please read will) become corrupted. The other option is if you have Settlement Menu Manager (SMM) installed, you may use the SMM compatible version.

Your next choice is if you want the Vanilla only version or a version that requires all DLC’s. Okay, maybe not aaall DLC's, just Automatron, Far Harbor and Nuka-World. If you don’t have all three (3) of these DLC’s, please choose the Vanilla version.

Lastly, you can choose to install this mod as a traditional ESP which will take up one (1) of your 253* available plugin slots or as one of the new ESL files. The advantage with this choice is that all ESL’s, regardless of how many you have, only take up one (1) plugin slot.

Ugh…So many choices. What do I download ? I hear you. To make this as simple as possible, there is only one file to download that includes a FOMOD installer, so you can make your choices in an orderly step-by-step fashion. If you use a mod manager (NMM, Mod Organizer, Etc.) just use the “Mod Manager Download” button on the Files tab and let your mod manager do the work. If you prefer to do a manual install, use the “Manual Download” button and extract the 7z file. Open the “ModFiles” folder and choose either the “Mine” (Custom Menu scripts) or “SMM” (SMM Menu scripts) folder and open it. Copy everything in the “Both” folder to your games “Data” folder. Now open either the “Vanilla” or “DLC” folder. Open either the “ESP” or “ESL” folder and copy the included file to your games “Data” folder. That’s it! All total, three (3) files should have been copied to your games “Data” folder.

*(255 – (Fallout4.esm + ESL Namespace)) = 253 (Each DLC counts against your available plugin slots)

Know Issues FEATURES

After placing a Supply Line Dropoff Box in a settlement, the Supply Line PLUS menu becomes greyed out because you can only have one (1) per settlement. If you then leave the Workshop menu and come back, the Supply Line PLUS menu disappears. This is because everything in the menu can’t be built there anymore. If you scrap the current Supply Line Dropoff Box, the menu will reappear. Magic!
Please note that after scrapping the Supply Line Dropoff Box, you will need to exit the Workshop menu and reenter it for the menu to reappear. Please scrap responsible.

Final Thoughts

The Meshes (NIF files) used in this mod are all a part of the base game, I simply retextured them. As such, they belong to Bethesda/Zenimax and not me.

Concerning the textures, in my mind the Minutemen are trying to rebuild the Commonwealth with whatever is available. As such they are more likely to recycle existing containers and not manufacture their own. Likewise the Railroad is about staying under the radar. They would want any special dropoff points to blend into the environment. The Brotherhood of Steel, however, have manufacturing capabilities. They are more about control and would want to show the Commonwealth that they are the better choice to take care of them. As such their Dropoff boxes would be new and shiny. A clear reminder to any who see it that it is the BoS who is in charge now. Similar, the Institute also has manufacturing capabilities as evidenced by the Institute itself. And like the BoS, would want all who see their Dropoff boxes to know that they are the better way forward for the Commonwealth, in their minds anyway. That’s the design concepts behind the textures and why some are old and rusted like the vanilla game while others are new and shiny with glowing signage. Feel free to extract the BA2 files and make the textures fit better to your vision of the Commonwealth.
