Vanilla - 68 fps 4K textures - 60-66 fps 4K Normals/Specular - 52 fps O_o Is this normal?) I have 4GB VRAM and it's not full. It's also hard to test, because fps is different each time I restart the game and load save)) But textures definitely have a great impact.
I just loaded up your mod and it certainly has improved the visuals in my game. I used the 2K version as I didn't want to slow down my framerate (2Gb graphic card) and I'm very happy with the changes you've made.
Can you uninstall valius mid play threw with out problems. i want to see the upddated graphics for fall out 4's next gen update to see which i like better.
You should be completely safe installing and uninstalling texture mods mid playthrough. Texture mods are essentially telling the game which textures to load first before its vanilla textures, if there are textures missing its pink, but you should always have vanilla textures in your game files. When you delete a quest mod though for example, it leaves nothing to pull from and you're sort of creating an empty space. Script heavy quest mods, larger mods, and things that actually add something to the game are the potentially unsafe to remove mods, although I have done that before without consequence, generally you should avoid doing that where you can, but textures are safe.
Not entirely true as this mod comes with an ESP. Removing it midgame can still potentially cause issues in the save file due to it changing plugin priority. Which is why texture mods generally do not come with plugins attached. if you manage your saves properly you can still test the different packs however.
Thanks for the great mod. Wondering if this is compatible with some of the Landscape mods that are out there? I ask since I don't see any landscape textures in the preview photos, so I am hoping there wont be any conflicts should I install a landscape texture pack.
Textures will overwrite eachother, depending on what you load last. So if you want the textures from this mod and the landscape textures from the other, load your landscape mod after this one, and they should play safe. Mod managers will throw up all sorts of warnings and conflicts but you'll be okay, just load the textures in the order in which you want to replace them with eachother.
I think the mods here only ‘complement’ the Hi-Resolution Texture Pack DLC? Is it even possible to update all textures to HD with the mods here on Nexus without the ‘official’ HD-DLC installed?
No most the texture packs here on nexus are meant to be used instead of the HD dlc. The HD DLC from the start was badly optimized and even when released there were hd retexture mods that did it better. So often times many people piece together a few retexture mods to give the game a nice updated look and often times these retextures will actually help with fps and other issues from the base game. All in all its a good thing to do and only takes a bit of reading, check to see what each retexture pack does and pick what you most like.
Im having a problem where it keeps getting disabled in the load order everytime i launch the game. Vortex says its enabled, i even tried reinstalling it. But i keep having to go to the mods tab and load order in the game main menu and enable it. I've tried putting at both the top, and bottom of the load order.
Hello, I had the same problem but I think I found a solution.
I'm on PC with the latest FO4 next gen update (v 1.10.980.0.1) and it works!
TLDR: basically the trick is to manually edit the file "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Fallout4\Plugins.txt" and write the mod filename in here.
Here's the steps:
make sure the game is not running
make sure the mod is installed (I prefer manual installation by copying the .esp + the two ba2 files inside the FO4 Data dir)
edit "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Fallout4\Plugins.txt" (this file contains the list of all the mods installed and enabled mods are the ones prefixed by a "*" character)
each mod must be in its own line and the list you see determines the load order
add to the list the filename of the mod (the .esp only) that you want to load, and prefix it by the "*" character in order to enable it
save and close the Plugins.txt file
run the game
Since I wanted to load Valius Texture Pack 2K BEFORE the FlaconOil mods, here's how my Plugins.txt looks like:
# This file is used by Fallout4 to keep track of your downloaded content. # Please do not modify this file. *VividFallout - AiO - BestChoice.esp *Vivid Fallout - LOD.esp *VividFallout - Quarry 2k.esp *ValiusHDTextures2K.esp *FlaconOil_BA2_Upto4K_Part1.esp *FlaconOil_BA2_Upto4K_Part2.esp *FlaconOil_BA2_Upto4K_Part3.esp
This way the mod stays enabled and keep its position, even on game restarts.
Edit to my original post, I missed this one in the plug in section on Vortex. If your using vortex, head to the plug-ins tab on the side, then search the mod and enable it there too.
Had this issue and fixed it very easily. 1) Open Vortex 2) go to plugins and enable Valius 4k textures 3) Done, it will now always be active. and you wont have to keep enabling it.
Check your Plugins tab before you launch vortex will turn of important plugins for me randomly. I recommend to get loot on its own. It does a way better job at plugin order than the loot on vortex does.
For those playing Fallout: London, I can confirm that the textures will load using alessaca's method, so long as you apply the .esp in the Plugins.txt before the London.esm to allow it to overwrite it (or at least, I tested it this way. I am uncertain they will load properly without placing it before the .esm)
So I pretty much have the same texture mods as you do. According to your plugin list, I'm assuming those are all BSA files, the bottom plugins have the priority? 3 different texture mods (Vivid Fallout, Valius, and FlaconOil) but no conflict?
No matter what I do, this mod always gets disabled. I've tried everything, including tips posted in this thread but it will never stay enabled. I'm going to try that retexture project mod instead.
Thought I might put a post here for those who have had a similar situation to me.
After the update on the 25th which, completely broke my playthrough. I rerolled my Fallout 4 as per these posts: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42147?tab=posts
There's also a great video on this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDH0iLo6NyE&ab_channel=SnailOXD
This mod was not loading any textures, it was the only mod not working.
I'm using Vortex Mod Manager btw.
These are the steps I had done to get it to work: - Reinstall Fallout 4 from scratch i.e. delete everything to do with FO4 on your PC and then install on steam. - This includes Documents/My Games/Fallout 4 - Be sure to keep your save(s) as I deleted them, luckily steam kept my latest save for me - Followed the steps in the video above to roll back the new update. - Tested new game (clicked Play on Steam) - Installed F4SE - Tested new game through f4se_loader - Installed the Unofficial bug fix mod - Tested new game through f4se_loader - Installed this texture pack mod - Tested new game through f4se_loader - Reinstalled the rest of the mods that I had - Tested new game through f4se_loader - Loaded old save - Everything worked
Hopefully this will help some people go through the pain I had to endure!
EDIT: This didn't actually work even though I thought it did. I believe I'm suffering from the soapbug/lodbug? All my textures seem to be stuck at one particular level of detail.
Did you check the Fallout Launcher to see if you can adjust the sliders in advanced graphic settings to max? Cause for some reason for me it's locked at low for all of them but when I load a save outside the textures seem to look normal until I go inside a building or vice versa. Let me know if you found a fix if that's the case

Added a few new textures, please see the change log for details.

P.S. 2K textures don't change fps a bit
Thanks a lot for all your hard work
