Post no comments here about how bad "Bugthesda" is or how this breaks the lore. From Fallout 2- to 4 there have been things that broke the previous lore and bad quests among mostly good ones. Also Billy might refer to Quincy or University Point
It's just a terrible quest in terms of pacing and execution and now it's gone It never existed
At last! Thank you. It was an absolutely ridiculous quest, purely and simply because even ghouls have to be able to breath, and being locked in a 'fridge for 200 years is going to stuff that necessity up totally!
Come on, am I the only one who likes this quest? Finding Billy, him saying that he wants to go to his family, me taking him with me to all of my settlements and Far Harbor to deal with some business there. It's quite fun.
The point is that it makes sense for him to be in that fridge for 200 years since ghouls do infact need to drink and eat. They need to drink in Fallout 1+2+3+NV and a major plot point of Fallout 1 was the water pump in Necropolis which if it didn't work killed the ghouls since they had no water.
Overall I think the lore with ghouls is handled in a chaotic way. But I was just joking about Billy, I always seem to take him with me to my settlements before giving him to his parents.
There's also SOME implication that ghouls do grow up over time, become adults. But it's only stated once by an NPC in one of the older games, and it can be interpreted as him slowly ghoulifying over time until it finalized during his adult years. Dunno... Ghouls in Fallout really have fast and loose rules, and it only got weirder with Bethesda shenanigans. xD
Wild and Wacky Wasteland perk in NV also spawned a fridge on the side of the road containing a fedora. Fallout series has always contained "un-immersive" pop culture jokes. Like in FO2, name your female character Buffy for a bonus.
Honestly, maybe he hibernated like we see some Ferals do. It makes no f***ing sense that he sat inside a fridge fully conscious for 2 centuries and is still in any way sane.
Yeah, if you think about it, Billy being in there for 200 years and him not being insane, no one opening the fridge before, creatures or people, and nothing affecting his health otherwise is kinda weird. I'm guessing you could see it as a joke reference to the 4th Indiana Jones movie ^^
Yeah I especially love the happy ending where the bombs dropped and everyone ended up in a wasteland with deadly irradiated creatures and the world devolved into anarchy and people are scrounging up resources to survive and settlements are just remnants of once bustling life. Even better is the story of this person from the pre-war era who's partner is killed and has their son stolen, but when they found their son he was older than the parent and was also dying, now that's a happy ending.
I have installed Killeable children mod and obviously Billy died. Resurrect him dont work, and load a save game is not an option, so i think the last resort is make this quest never existed.
I made a personal version I never posted, but since I am a huge fan of Zorkaz mods I'll give you all "my version" of Kid in a Fridge as an exclusive only here :)
Short description: Investigate the voice cleared from the journal with no force start of "Kid in a Fridge" if selecting the skill check option and then selecting not to open the fridge door.
Long description: If the player just "leave" the zombie kid in the fridge the MISC quest stay in the log. So my fix without breaking the quest was simple:
01. I shrunk the huge activation-box-zone near the refrigerator, so the player must walk real close to activate the quest in the first place.
02. When/if the player get the quest "Investigate the voice" it's now possible when talking to the Zombie on the skill check option regardless of success to leave him there and walk away. The MISC quest "Investigate the voice" will be cleared from the log and you don't automatically get the next stage "Kid in a Fridge" into the Journal.
03. When/if you want to take up the quest, just walk near the fridge and talk to the zombie inside or just shoot at the fridge door and "Kid in a Fridge" will enter your Journal as normal.

At the very least, if shooting the refrigerator door off caused Billy's shriveled husk to pour out in an avalanche of little dried turds and empty pudding cups, it would have been a much better story. ^-^
You misunderstand how good Quests and stories work. I don`t like what happened to the kid, but I liked the Quest. It was sad and I felt for the poor lad so i helped him find his home. It`s also DIFFERENT, unlike many other Quests in many games. A good story will be emotional and make you feel. A good story often hits you right in the midriff. You don`t delete it. But whatever. it`s your mod, thankfully.
@ Meseeks ... I with Socratatus on this, I too like billy and theres a mod that lets you give bill and his parents a home at any settlement!.. I get people might not like the quest or the ghoul kid interaction thing but each to our own right ? As for billy the fridge was not air tight so when the bombs fell radiation seeped in turning him in to a ghoul, as for " s he should've starved, there was pudding in the fridge, not knowing how long he'd be stuck might he have only eaten a little at a time? But like I said each to our own... I just came for interested look at the mod ...
I wished Fallout 4 had a Wild Wasteland trait or mode for people who liked these lore breaking and often silly quests, e.g. pre-war Jet, etc. so more lore fanatics like myself could avoid the silliness.

Or am I doing it wrong?

Now can you do the same for the Star Wars Sequels?
