Great mod, works like a charm for me. I always keep Buddy and send him to Sanctuary. He usually paths his way out towards the waterfront and then turns left. I stay with him to the river and then he would be on his own. This past play thru, something terrible happened. Coming out of the bar, we came under attack and he turned right, attacking the mobs. My companion and I tried desperately to fend off the attackers and Buddy just kept going towards University Point. It was a long fight and we finally made it to just past Hestor's Electronics when we were attacked by the named dogs from the apartment close by. They jumped Buddy right by that explosive car and before I could do anything, Buddy fired off his weapon and detonated the car, killing the dogs and himself. I tried the resurrect command and Buddy just crawled along the ground. That experience made me look for a mod and found this one. Works great, Buddy can not be hurt. Spawned mobs to attack, and he does just fine. I no longer have to worry about him after he leaves the bar. Thanks Jack!
This mod is truly essential if you want to keep Drinking Buddy, thank you Jackbusters! Is there a mod somewhere that makes him moddable Automaton-style, I wonder? :-o
Drinking Buddy is a unique robot you can find in the game and recruit. It's a vanilla robot who creates and dispenses free alcohol. There is no other robot like him, so once he's gone he's gone (fixed with this mod by making him essential). He can be found in the Shamrock Taphouse, though eventually you will receive a quest from Rufus in the Hotel Rexford to retrieve him.
just curious bois, how do I properly keep Drinking Buddy for myself? Because everytime I send him to a settlement and talk to him, the "I've sold you To Rufus in Goodneighbour" option appears and I accidentaly sold him about three times. Does anyone know how to fix this?? I'm willing to kill Rufus if that's the only option to make the dialogue option dissapear tho
When you hover over him in the settlement workshop mode, it gives you a "move" option at the bottom of the screen. You can use this to change his home.
EDIT: Oh, that's not what you asked. I'm not sure there is a way to do this in the vanilla game... but you could always try completing the quest with console commands: CompleteQuest <QuestID>
hm.. there is a lot of robots that could use being essential.. like every mr handy/gutsy in the General Atomics Galleria. (well except inactive ones and Champ) but kinda only after the Galleria is back to open

Considering how stupidly often my home gets attacked, this'll be helpful. Thanks.
Edit: Found one, but it's a little dated...
