the last screenshot with 51 fps is combined with texture optimization project mod with the same ini files, many claims that combining this mod with 512 texture pack is better. I haven't tested with manual low graphics yet to see if still, it has an effect on fps without adding tweak or sacrificing everything.
Correction, it was truly bUsecombinedobjects=0. I been using that with scrap mods because these mods are a must so i always though the bad fps in key areas was the game and not that ini for years... I just turned it back on and the factory you first have a mission at to kill the raiders my fps was like 30 or below Vs my 60fps or w/e the max is with my 1080ti and soon as i turned that ini back on i know get max fps in the same spot even on top of the factory looking north. I guess you can still use the mod you just have to turn it off and on when you need to but not sure if thats a good idea but it worked turning it back on.
Three years later and your Two comment here finally fixed f04 for me. I've been been running around dropping below 35 frames for 100 hours and I also just excepted that was the game. Thank you for making my experience so much better :,)
I will give it a try though I have a higher end pc, my fps is crappy. I'll get you my take on your changes working on my rig. Thanks for helping out, btw.
What are your specs? I suggest taking a look at this video
Fallout 4 Let's Play Prologue 2: Performance and Optimization by Red Rocket TV
Its not a link, just pop that into Youtube or google. But he goes over what he does to get 60+ FPS in FO4 - including Boston areas. And he explains what is good and bad mod wise. Mods like the Scrap Everything and the other one that does the same thing are bad for example. Yea it looks nice when that shits gone, but is it worth the performance? I play on 2560x1440 with a 1080ti, 8700k, 16gb 3000mghz ram. My game is on a Samsung 970 SSD or whatever it is they have. I used to get 45-75 in normal areas like Sanctuary and whatnot. With that video and downloading some different texture mods and deleting some mods and editing my game settings, I now get 80+fps in Sanctuary and normally 80 fps in Boston with occasional stutter and fps drops to 55ish. So I suggest that video.
Anyways, Good Luck, just wanted to share some information with you.
the mod scrap everything as mentioned turns off something in the game called pre combines, this is bad if you have lower performing pc, shoot i got a 9900k, 2080ti and 32gb of ram and simply having sim settlements with scrap everything can bring my pc to its knees
easiest way i can describe precombines is like a zip file, lets use sanctuary as an example, theres alot of houses and other crap around the town so to limit resource use and make fps higher, instead of everything being its own object and loading individually, its all packaged together like a zip file, so then you cant remove this tree cause its part of the ground which is part of the house etc etc
mods like scrap anything or any mod that says it breaks pre combines means every item is now its own object again which requires way more resources/time, so yea you would then be able to delete a tree or trash you couldnt before but at the cost of now your pc must load everything in that area or cell as its own independent item
no, it's actually a tweak that I heard setting it to 500-550 do the job for most systems but I had to get it to 100 by the poorest graphic option but still working!! I'ma update the post with better details rn, track the process!
if you were answering to me here, i was speaking only of scrap anything or any other mods that break precombines, they all cause the game to work harder, so ppl with fps problems or lower level pcs want to avoid them at all costs
you can find mods where the author will tell you they broke precombines to remove items then repackaged it all as a precombine again, these mods will 100% work fine but it requires alot more work to do it that way, so currently theres more mods around that simply break it cause its easier
thats why i specifically mentioned sanctuary as everyone has most likely been there, and set up a base there, the whole sanctuary is 1 item in the vanilla game, except for the trash items you can remove in the vanilla game those few items arnt in the precombine, precombines are controlled by this setting bUseCombinedObjects, thats what scrap everything changes
like my above example, you cant remove whatever tree in sanctuary cause that tree is actually part of the ground and the ground is part of the street and the street is part of that house etc etc, with the combines off you can delete the tree but at the cost of everything now loads on its own requiring more power
the number you mention idk where there even from as combined objects is a simple on or off setting, if i took a guess id say maybe max decals or maybe max combines in an area, but im not 100% on that
you may also wanna look into seeing if theres a enboost for fallout 4, before i built my new pc, the enboost for skyrim worked wonders, dunno if fallout has the same thing or not
Hey, yeah I forgot to mention you actually I didn't notice anything about the precombines in the sources I've gathered this information and yet even tho the default number is 800 and only the number 500-550 would do the job without causing problems while I'm using 100 and I still get stutter I've turned off some mods like Boston fps fix and some other mods which mess with the configs I especially made for players like me, I'll share the result if the rather numbers are better than 100 or not.
Nvm.. its was bUsecombinedObjects=0. Turned that off and now my fps is fine even tho im still running scrap everything mod with the ini turned back on to =1.
This command refers to the cells loaded around the character. Vanilla does not play well if you have less than the default number, which is 5 if I'm not mistaken.
yeah I know but in addition to playing FO4 on my laptop which specs are: Core i5 480m, 4gb ram, amd mobility radeon hd 6350m. changing ugridstoload to 2 made a huge effect on my fps, but yet still I get this freezing in games which doesn't actually freeze but it give me like 2-3 frames per minute |: and it goes away after some times moving my mouse around.
What their saying is this, imagine a tile floor, your character is the center tile ugridstoload changes how many of the tiles around your character load up, this has effects on NPCs and Quest stuff (uExterior Cell Buffer and uInterior Cell Buffer control how many things loadd up in an area as well) changing it from it default, may have given you a boost now but you can run into issues later that may actually make missions unfinishable etc etc, you may also get lucky and it all works out (theres a step wiki page from skyrim that talks about ugrids and the cell buffer settings as well, cause your actually suppose to change them together i believe, i leave my ugrids on default tho and bump the other 2, but my pc is also beastly)
as far as what their saying about saves, yea your game works fine now cause that settings seems to allow you to change it once before issues, their saying now that you have changed it, and saved the game, if you attempt to go in and change it back later like as i said if you cant finish a mission, it wont work correctly, will either cause random crashing or you straight up will never be able to load those saves again
thats why he said its no good, if youve got that setting in your file, cause if people load your setting then try to go back they break their game and youll get the heat from them lol
if its working out for you by all means keep on rocking, but for a file your making available to all, id do a quick google search of fallout 4 settings not to touch or add, ugridstoload and ipreloadmemlimit whatever (only effects intro movie) are 2 you wanna stay away from atleast on the public releases
as for the freezing your speaking of AminAlfa, if it happens outside of gaming AT ALL then its either 1. an old Hard drive that keeps going unresponsive cause its being pushed to its limits 2. a ssd thats been full for so long its now degraded and becomes unresponsive under heavy load 3. CPU is pinging off 100% usage making the game wait in line for its turn for cpu power
**4. the most likely or atleast the biggest not helping your issue is the 4gb of ram, not sure about your version of windows but id guess windows 7 era by your specs, which means the windows itself probably reserves 2gb of your 4 leaving you only 2gb maybe almost 3gb while gaming
I just achieved the best settings that I tried and yeah I figured that changing buffer to 9 and ugrids to 2-3 do the job it did but the stuttering went on my nerves, I'll share it with some other Infos.
I have changed them back to 5-47 due to some description that said the game may not run well under 47, problem solved! It was possible by some other mods, I manage to keep a smooth 25-51 fps(avg 34 in most areas).
About the glitchy save/loadings or mission process unfinishable, I didn't notice that even now some settings are default and I was able to play till "unlikely valentine" and I'm just busy doing something about the fps first. The HDD I have seems to be working just fine with usinghardcache for low-end memories, loading is much faster with the default settings of iTextureDegradeDistance0-1, iTextureUpgradeDistance0-1 right now and dividing those settings made it even much faster without any problem. Intro movies being disabled seems to get the game working fine cause it's a tweak in bethini (application programmed with java to manage your configs), never saw a problem with that cause I said everything is disabled except gore effect, I meant all intro movies too.
I've also tweaked my windows by uninstalling some updates with a bat file I made and disabling some services I don't need so around 500-700 will be used by windows and the other 3-3.2gb is free for me with any cached, now that u reminded it to me I'll share those instructions too.
nice, and i just wanted to make sure to iterate, i wasnt trying to be a dick or anything in my previous post
was merely trying to help ya out before headaches, cause as i had said some settings, such as ugrids, on a public file thats downloadable you would wanna leave it on default, if it truely is helping you out tho mention it in your details with a warning and let the user chose if they change it or not\
as far as what we mentioned with the saves, thats a strange one, like mentioned before ugrids seems to be able to be changed 1 time and saved and everything will work, its usually if you attempt to change it back after playing the game for awhile with it changed then causes issues, but again this all varies
in skyrim for example i have a few hundred saves that i cant load unless my ugrids is 9, attempting to load any of them is insta crash unless i change ugrid to 9, the problem is with ugrids on 9 i keep agrroing enemies i cant even see, or activating quests im nowhere near, the biggest problem is random encounters like save this person, they will be dead by time i get there cause it loaded them up when i was a mile away instead of 7 feet, if i repeatedly hammer the load game button eventually i can get the game to load with the default ugrid then itll just randomly crash for no reason, skyrim original does also have a hardcodded 3.5gb limit which i always ran into as well lol, problems of running skyrim with almost 500 mods lol
also while im here, check that you also dont have the grey bug caused by TOP (texture optimization project), you can google it, codsworth probably the easiest way to tell depending on where you are in story (if you have it this should fix it https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/27366) for me personally bobby pins were black and codsworth was really really dark matte grey, the fix made codsworth a lighter slightly reflective grey again, bobby pins are still black but i dont really care about that one
No bro I know you weren't trying to be a dick you just made me see the difference between what'd those ini files do to the other people that's why I spent some more time to solve the problem in a better way with the help of combining those mods, altho I had an issue when some time would pass in the game and the stuttering could come back and make the game freeze Idk if it's from Boston fps fix, far away and better lighting mods since these mods change the ini config that is made just for ultra low-end PCs
I haven't faced any problems with lockpick place and the colors of the new textures even tho I've read about them before but I will put this note in FAQs if somebody faced this problem, thanks.
You take a screenshot with 13 fps in a bigger area, then a second one near a wall with much less objects and pretend this "mod" increased fps? Or maybe the fps is higher because it's a different place. This is very deceiving and your ini will high likely cause other issues and problems.
they are both out of rexford hotel, I stood in the same area that fps was low before and after with the ini files. I'd be happy if you share the other issues you had.
so yeah, that was it. people like me who yet still have troubles playing with low settings can now enjoy 15-20+ approved fps. I tried to make the fps go even higher but I can't add any other tweak to perform this action also even with removing shadows completely and lowering meshes distance, but it didn't make any difference. although I realized that the flickering and freezing problem I had was with the ugridstoload it has a huge role to get u a better fps with buffersize on 9, but if change it back to 5-36 u may have fewer fps drop and freeze.
I will take a look at this. I have heavily edited my ini files for performance though I play on ultra. I have managed to disable shadows and set fDirShadowDistance=0.0000 and fShadowDistance=0.0000. I would be interested in knowing maybe what of your setting does.
not having shadows hurts but if someone else with my specs wants to play the game with the highest fps sacrificing shadows is the way to go, if you can change the lines in the ini files to even get the performance better send me those changed lines.
This mod has a text file with .ini settings that work really well for removing shadows in a pretty unique way. You might want to give the settings a try. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/5199?tab=description

That's not good mate.
No matter in which direction you change it, you screw your game. And you cannot change it for a save.
Which means: To change that number you need to start a new game.
