For some reason you have to be in god mode. Just type "TGM" into console without quotes and you'll be able to place it. Afterwards, type it again and god mode will be disabled, food generator will remain. No idea why.
This mod is almost exactly what I was looking for but the author hasn't been on Nexus in a long while. If anyone could make a new version of this where the generators actually look like food-related objects, that would be great. Food-related objects could be: a filled fridge; a Port-A-Diner; an Institute food synthesiser.
I tested the mod, and it turns out that the ultra small generator is glitched/bugged in some way. I was able to create the generator without having the science perk, but i was not able to create the generator with the science perk at rank 1. It would appear that something is messed up in the mod.
checking the ESP in FO4Edit, found the condition for crafting it requires the player to have the perk of science rank 1 equal to 0, meaning impossible to build unless you don't have any perks in science, instead of having it equal to 1
It's an easy fix by loading it in FO4Edit, going to the constructible object record with the EditorID of workshop_co_FoodGenUS, and in the conditions section, change the Comparison Value from 0.0 to 1.0. Once that's done you can save and it will work as it should be.
This mod is very useful, since I no longer need to assign settlers to food production. But the ultra small size doesn't work even though I have the required perk to place it.
Could you add a file that placed the workshop menu in a diff place so they could be used at Mech Lair and BOS Airport? Everyone seems to put these types of Mods under food (not available in the original Mech Lair or the Mech Lair overhaul. I tried using a 2 different workshop patches with Mech Lair overhaul, they do not seem to play well together. While I gain some menus back, I lose others like SOE that I use to make small power generators. I have just been relying on the supply line but having Jezzabel and Ada in the Lair is challenging enough to make the settlement happy. Not sure you even work on this but thanks for a mod that works great in other settlements! I can use 3 or 4 settlers, have very happy settlements and move on with min effort and get back to playing the game.
I know this is late, but it will produce food in the workshop like the purifier, BUT I been testing it and found if you have the Unofficial Patch installed it will not, they modified the Workshop Parent script and for some reason it only counts as food but does not store food (technically it is a Cheat). Don't get me wrong the Unofficial Patch is great but I prefer not to use it.

I am waiting for the moment when new models will be made that suit the production of food
