I hate to agree a little bit, not to throw "shade" at the author or anything (haha get it? shade?) but this is common with ReShades and ENB presets across other games I've played too, like Skyrim and FFXIV. The contrast boost results in lost details in the shadows and it gets to me. How do you play like that?
At least there is not a saturation boost. The well lit scenes do look quite beautiful! The darker scenes make me think "hey, can someone turn on the lights?" And maybe that seems extra significant in Fallout where you are constantly picking stuff up off the ground.
Maybe I just don't have a fancy HDR monitor so the benefits are not readily apparent! I also keep my display at a dim enough brightness to be easy on my eyes for hours long sessions. If you are playing on a huge HDR TV it probably looks way better. I couldn't believe how much better RDR2 looked on my sister's PS4 Pro with 4K HDR on compared to my non-Pro-non-HDR 1080p PS4. More detail in every frame.
***Also I missed this in the description at first: a little bit of a mild darker night (had to give a reason for the flashlight to be used) That's cool, I like having a reason to use the flashlight. Though I prefer it in less loot-focused games like Metro, where I can vouch that the light and dark made for an absolutely terrifying part of the atmosphere!
That looks real nice and smooth. Do you run anything else but reshade? I've never used reshade before. I do Calamity Weathers and a little custom ENB tweaking (that I'm always tweaking). I would want darker nights personally but I'm sure I can change that.
you could use darker nights instead if you like? It's compatible; you'll just need to install the minimal one in its fomod if you don't want your nights pitch black lol
Hey sorry for the long wait on the reply. I just use the reshade with the darker main file (no other emb's or anything else.) I used to use darker nights but I couldn't get the darkness just right. So I took a whole new direction and spent countless hours in setting up this preset. Hope you enjoy it.
Good mod however, Reshade exe is bugged, and their site is questionable. Downloaded Reshade last night and ran smooth until this morning and VMM and L.O.O.T was unresponsive. I went to my SSD but was unable to access my own drive and could not remove Reshade file (Which I never had issues with my hard drive prior to that download) and even went to their site to check for troubleshooting on their webpage and was met with error codes within their webpage. Had to run bios to recover my drive that was deleted by that file thankfully was able to do so.
Sorry that you had a stroke of some really bad luck with downloading and using reshade. The website https://reshade.me/ is down for maintenance atm so I was unable to reach the website. I suspect that after they fix things on their end that everything will workout. Again I'm so terribly sorry.
This is very strange, I downloaded and installed the Reshade 5.4.2.exe which was at the bottom of the web page only two nights ago without any issues whatsoever, not that I could see anyway.
I have had no issues with my PC or SSD drive and the web page opened as normal and I installed this mod/preset on top of it and been playing my game with this whole new setup since then, so I don't know what went wrong on your side, did you perhaps download some dodgy file off that site?
Don't know what else to say tbh mate, hope you managed to sort your PC out. Edit: I've just gone onto the website and it's working fine, opened as normal just like first time I visited it, maybe it's fixed now.
Go to https://reshade.me/ Download Reshade. Install reshade Choose Direct 11 Point the installation to fallout4.exe The installation will ask for a preset Point it to the Fallout 4-Pure Clarity.txt The installation will then download the necessary packages to run the txt file When the installation is finished, you are good to go Play and enjoy
(Here is how I do it. I stick the Re-Preset folder inside the fallout 4 directory that way any other Reshade presets that you may deside to try in the future will go inside the Re-Preset folder aswell)
The installation of "Shader" and this preset went very smoothly and my game looks awesome now, I mean the transformation was unbelievable. With all settings ticked, everything in the game now looks like it's in HD but without the countless gigabites of texture files and FPS drop etc, amazing
I already have Darker Nights mod installed with very dark settings so when I installed this on top, the nights were literally pitch black lol, so I turned D.N. down to minimum and now it's not so dark, nothing that a torch light or NV couldn't fix.
I just like to add that I never thought of using Shader or any ENB's in my game but thanks to this mod my game has been improved beyond words, thank you so much for converting me. Respect, endorsed, and kudos to you.
Added a Lite optional version for some who are scared of the dark..lol jk Added screenshots so that the difference can be seen. (although the pics doesn't do it justice)
Any questions, I will be glad to answer them here. Hope you all enjoy.
Here is a way to fix that. During night time, open reshade by hitting Home key. On the list of activated presets look for HDR [FakeHDR.fx] deactivate and reactivate it to bring the setting controls to the top of the settings list at the bottom. Turn down the Power to the FakeHDR to your liking. Try to find a happy medium setting to balance out day and night darkness.
I too had noticed that some areas of the map (in between buildings) can't be helped. Only cause the moon doesn't shine there all to well. It just gives a reason for having a flashlight.
This is what I use for a good realistic flashlight https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10840
