You could have tried, y'know, actually reading the mod descriptions and/or comments sections for the mods you install. That'd be swell.
If you had done so, you would know that player race is determined by whichever Player plugin from race mod is loaded and you should only have one of them active at a time; if you want to change races you need to disable all the Player plugins in your load order and enable only the one from the race you want to play as (or none if you want to go back to human).
okay lippy micgie i did read your mod description and comments but no where did it say i need only one active race mod. i was not aware of that, not my fault you have poor instructions.
Hi, is there anything like this for npcs? i've been using setrace on npcs to change them to other races, but when i quit out of the game and come back, the body is normal but the head is gone.
i could swear i remember that not being the case, but disabling the new mods i had downloaded didn't fix it, and now i'm thinking that i'm just misremembering a fix or mod for this would be absolutely lovely
setrace does change their race, i thought it would get baked into the savefile, but when it's the custom race the head disappears, but when i turn them back to human, their modded custom head reappears, and the original head is gone
i'm confused why humanrace brings back the custom race head, but when the npc is the actual custom race it just disappears, there has to be a reason in humanrace that makes the modded head come back?
by the way thanks for responding, this has really been bothering me, can you confirm if setting custom race with setrace does make their heads disappear upon quitting and relaunching the game and loading the save? if it happens to others then i stop being bothered by it so much
Yes, it always happens like that. Which is precisely why I said you can't change NPC races ingame. Technically you "can" but the head bugs out like that so it's not an actual option. You have to use the CK instead.
I don't understand what exactly I'm supposed to be doing in FO4Edit, is there a tutorial I can follow that has correct instructions to make the patch to change my character's race?
You're not supposed to be doing anything in xEdit, you're supposed to install whichever race mod you want to play as and then enable its corresponding Player plugin (which, as the name implies, edits the Player character data to have them use that custom race). All this mod does is let you change races mid-game without having chargen data break.
Not sure to understand this mod, I have around 30 custom races in my game and I can change anytime in mid game with setrace and looksmenu. With few presets I have to switch 3 or 4 time before that work, but that work. Also no one of my custom race change the player 0x07. What exactly your mod do is a mystery for me.
Are those "30 custom races" actual races with completely different heads and headparts and tints and such? Or just HumanRace duplicates? Because while the latter would also experience this issue, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't actually be noticeable since everything chargen-related would be identical across all of them.
I have races that are totally different and race that just use a private oni face part and others that use asian enhanced face, curie use a custom ikaros. All they replace my settlers and companions and all works together. I also use Ya_npc for the non settlers npc. As player I can use any one I want by just changing my race and switching to a looks menu preset for this race.
To be specific, the problem is with the tints that has completely different index numbers from the race that you have selected for your player character. The game stores the race that you used to create your player character in the save file and reads it to load the customization data. If you're just using custom races that are based on HumanRace without any custom tints other than the vanilla tints + palettes then you won't have such problems.
Tl;dr This mod is for a whole new race created from scratch.
Yes tints are always a problem, and switching player to custom race also. What I do to turn around that is generally I reset to human race if I'm not human, switch to preset 1. Now open looksmenu to select the preset I want. Change player race to the new preset. Few time that not work immediately I have to repeat the operation, in same order or change order. lol. It's the hell but that always finish to work correctly. The interest of my method is I can change race in mid game, I'm not fixed as a unique race on a game. If you can also update data also on setrace command not just on start game and same for npc's, it's interesting.

your mod is useful yeah, but your description isn't really well done. can be easy to notice by how much people were confused xD
anyhow thanks for the mod, i'll probably will need it in one of my run.
