As someone who also thinks the Railroad has good intentions but terrible OpSec, I'm definitely downloading this for my next playthrough. If I ever figure out how to do it, I'd like to make it so that the only way to even learn about the freedom trail is for Deacon to reverse pickpocket one of those railroad holotapes into your inventory after you've done enough to prove you'd be an ally. The fact that everyone in the commonwealth seems to know about the Freedom Trail and can't wait to talk about it makes it surprising that ANY of them are still alive.
To be honest, the game has quite a few of those quests that get added because apparently a random guy knows enough about it to tell you exactly where to go, but not enough to become a main character and replace the player on their quest for NPC redemption.
Helping other npcs join the factions could have been an interesting aspect of gameplay, to differentiate from Skyrim's, "we can do everything and be leader of everything all at once!", style. This could be a desirable, if complicated, mod in its own right. Thanks for phrasing it that way 🤔
Maybe something similar to Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood? You only get an offer of entry after committing at least one murder in that game. You could probably fake a reverse pickpocket by having him walk up to the player, then add an item to the players inventory, ("Railroad Tape Clue Thing Added to inventory"), then walk away.
Fallout 4 is all about, forgive me for this, railroading you into a set path, one reason we have to mod the Hell out of it to have a game in the game. This is the same game that tried its damnedest to stick you with killing Austin Engil or having 10% off your hitpoints for life, until that was modded into relative sanity.
I'm able to see the changes made to the plates, but it does not allow me to click on them. Is that due to me enabling the mod while I had the quest enabled from the guy in diamond city?
That's likely the case. I can try to put some checks in that can account for it already running, but the best method would be to install this before starting the quest.
Yes, somehow I delayed the 1st meeting with the railrod in this playthrough, I'm level 90 now, did settlements first and partly NW and BoS, wanted to enter the railroad today with the old password, memory before the entrance yesterday and Saw your mod.
Installed the mod right away (marked as ESL immediately) and lo and behold, the first new password, after going through all the points backwards again and looking at the list here and it's there. But I won't reveal anything! word of honour!
Where do the voice line files come from? Curious if this is AI generated or vanilla assets. Either way, very glad this exists and will be using it from now on for sure.
The voice lines are ai generated from about 15+ minutes of vanilla dialogue per character, I had to re-generate the individual lines quite a few times to get the right tone and stop them from saying "buh" instead of "B", for example lol
