Well I am no professional modder for fallout 4 but considering that one was written in 4 years ago, and the mods mentioned in this video were released a 1-2 years after that, I'd imagine that it is completely different.. lol
Looking through the list, I would say that that list is highly extensive and way knowledgeable on ALL things Fallout 4, and will teach you jsut about everything basic for modding FO4.. But nowhere does it mention cathederal optimizer, or does it mention HOW to combine BA2 files... Just that he already compiled them for easiness.. This is a more specific step by step guide on how to do it yourself... VERY helpful. and wwaaaayyyy different
The Biraitbec thing, is a very different tool, that merges the textures in the original Fallout BA2 files, that way the textures get loaded without an additional esp, and conflicts is theoretically not existing, but...
It's rather tedious and difficult to make it work, if you use any textures with material files, new meshes and so on...
Followed all of the instructions all the way to the end, no issues with the bat file, but the final step of running the CAO doesn't create the BA2 files... any idea what's up?
I had this issue for a moment but had to correct the file pathing for the whole thing. I had it in a folder instead of on my main C: drive. The FO4 folder with everything in it needs to be it's own folder on the main drive or the pathing set up in the tools won't find things. When I corrected that CAO worked perfectly. Hope that makes sense and helps others having a similar issue.
Hi. Just a hypothetical question: If I don't pack all the files extracted from these texture packs, but I add them directly to Data folder (texture, meshes, material folders). I understand that they become loose files. My PC is very strong and can handle any amount of the loose hires texture files. Should it be a problem, or anyway, it's better to create the Main and Texture BA2 and ESP files and install them following your explanations?
for some reason these files dont show up in combined files, i followed the pdf and made sure everything looked right. even tried twice but i dont know what i messed up • 4estGimp - HDTP - Main.ba2 • 4estGimp - HDTP - Textures.ba2
It's well done and you won't have any problems that way, don't worry, but if you only want a single ba2 open Cathedral Assets Optimizer, uncheck Separate textures BSA in BSA tab and click on Run again. Make sure the texture repack folder is selected and the Extract BSA, Create BSA and Create dummy plugins checkboxes are checked first.
Works great, following the instructions makes it idiot proof. Only have one question, once I got to the point of compressing these into a zip, I had an extra BA2 file HDTP0. I didn't add it to the zip. I don't notice any issues without it but was this to be added in as well. For reference I used 4k versions of everything possible, thinking maybe BA2 file was too big so it made another (No idea what I'm talking about in that regard just an idea)?
EDIT: To answer my own question and hopefully someone else's, there seems to be no negative consequences in adding the extra HDTP0 file into the zip. Maybe somethings are HD now that weren't before, but I can't quite tell
Nothing is idiot proof. :D Just watch Johnathan Taylor's apparent TD run that wasn't from yesterday. Nobody within 10 yards of him as he's coasting to the endzone - but he drops the ball before the goal line. People always wondered why Barry Sanders' celebration amounted to just handing the ball to the ref - well THAT was idiot proofing the TD process. :D
Yeah I was surprised as well. I even thought that maybe file names or folder tree was messed up, but no, error appeared only when I ran bat file as admin.

EDIT - apologies for the naming bad of 4estGimp_HDTP folder. I released this in the middle of the night and then went to bed. It's fixed now though.
