Overview of Mod
This mod includes a voiced companion with
There is also a short (15-30 minute) quest that serves as an introduction to the character, so be sure to exhaust all the dialogue options if you want to learn as much as possible about Roland. The quest itself is mostly dialogue, and you shouldn't have much trouble with it if you're a high enough level to reach Cambridge. The ending of it does have a very close range fight though, so take necessary precautions.
Roland functions nearly identically to vanilla companions; he can be commanded, sent to settlements, can enter and exit power armor, etc.
I used Seddon4494's method of implementing Roland, and as such he uses a separate follower slot and can accompany the player alongside a vanilla companion.
Roland has randomized, conditional dialogue that will play while he accompanies you. I've intentionally made this dialogue somewhat rare so that he doesn't annoy you.
He also has a handful of unique lines if the player has the Black Widow perk, as a fun reference to the older Fallout games.
Roland does not have an affinity system and cannot be romanced,
To begin the quest, visit the Red Rocket in Cambridge and look for a note in the metal shack on top of the roof. Check the pictures if you're having a hard time finding it. It's the Red Rocket nearby to College Square, not the other Cambridge Red Rocket. https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Red_Rocket_(College_Square)
The John Marston hat from some of the screenshots is from this mod. Check it out.
Xbox version is now available here.
Incompatible Mods
None that I know of so far. It should work fine with pretty much anything that doesn't drastically alter the interior cells of the Cambridge Campus Diner or the Fen Street Bank.
Known Issues
I'm not a professional voice actor. Next time I'll find a real voice actor, I promise. Maybe.
Roland has a unique line if the player meets him while wearing a vault suit, but I can't get him to say it. Once again, I'm sure it's something simple I've missed.
The majority of the player lines within the mod are unvoiced. Sorry, this just isn't something I can feasibly solve.
Please report any other bugs, unrecorded dialogue, grammatical errors, etc., and I'll do my best to fix them.
Special Thanks
I'm incredibly grateful for the modding tutorials of both Seddon4494 and Kinggath, they were tremendously useful and I couldn't have made this without them.
My bud, Dakota, for being the voice of Byron.
Kinggath, again, for his mod resources and Xatmos for the Face Ripper tool.
The Fallout mod community as a whole. I've been a Fallout fan for over a decade now and I figured it was long past due that I gave something back to the community. Even if Bethesda doesn't always have Fallout's best interests at heart, I know you guys do.
