tried to make a patch for Orphans of the commonwealth, game CTD on startup, reverted back my changes, and gonna wait for someone else to make the patch. LOL please make patch for Orphans of the Commonwealth, the kids from that mod just stand around doing nothing. they dont even sandbox properly.
Does this mod only address specific named children, or is it compatible with mods that implement children settlers like Simple Settlers (1&2) or Orphans of the Commonwealth?
This mod only modifies the vanilla settlers. If you use other mods that add children, you'll have to modify these yourself, if they don't already allow free assignment of the children to work items.
Hi i started the game without this mod so i have to do the known issues method problem is im on survival and there is no console command if i go back to very hard to enable the console i wont be able to go back to survival mode any tips ?
Edit: i looked for a mod to enable the console command without lowering the difficulty this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12556?tab=description
One can also use Unlimited Survival Mode. It enables more than just the console and together with Survival Configuration Menu it provides the best experience to configure Survivability Mode to your liking, at least in my opinion.
yeah thanks i think i saw that one before its my first survival run i did play very hard like 3 times so i kinda wanna experience the thing as is maybe if i go for a 5th run i will use it
If you use other mods that overwrite the same NPC records, they will conflict. In that case, load my mod last or merge the changes. FO4Edit is the tool for that job.
Also, if you installed my mod AFTER starting a new game, the original NPC script variables will already be saved to your savegame. In that case use the method on the description page to make the children assignable.
For some reason, I cannot assign Marie Wilkins of Somerville to a job. I have not tested the rest yet. If the rest works, then thanks! No room for trust fund children in the Commonwealth.
Edit: Oh, Tom Wilkins is preassigned to one crop, but is not assignable.
If you installed the mod after starting a new game, you will need to follow the instructions in the "Known Issues" section of the mod description. It's just how the game works. It stores all active script variables in the savegame and if they are modified later by a mod, it has no effect.
I notice that one of the things this mod does is "give them names" - how would this respond /interact with What's Your Name and other such mods?
Of course I found THIS one the day AFTER just up and deleting the Nordhagen kid, because even though I stored the crops before doing a scrapall command, he can't be REASSIGNED to them or anything else. :/ Too late for him. But I haven't gotten to Bunker Hill yet.
But I use both Orphans of the Commonwealth and What's Your Name, and would want to know whether this conflicts before using it, because those are 100% staying in my order.
In the vanilla game, all of these NPCs were just named "Settler". I found that boring, so I gave them a proper name in their NPC records. "What's Your Name" doesn't mess with these NPC records directly. You should be able to use that mod to give them a different name, should you dislike my selection. Keep in mind that if you install my mod on a game in progress, it will not magically fix their workshop variables. You will have to use the workaround mentioned under "Known Issues".
Yes, of course. I just checked in Nordhagen Beach and Jimmy was sleeping in his bed. I built them a new house with beds and then scrapped their old beds. He was automatically assigned one of the new beds, but I could still assign another bed. The "commandable" flag means that you can assign NPCs to anything, but I wouldn't advise to assign children to some items. The game scales the characters to fit the item and that may look odd for children.
Anyone else having issues with this mod reverting settlements back to earlier states? I have not downloaded a mod in ages, but accidentally unemployed one of my child settlers and wanted to get them back working, so downloaded and installed this mod. Now my cleaned up settlements are no longer cleaned up, the mod that fixes their roofs has been overwritten back to busted up roofs and there's clutter strewn all over my nice clean Sanctuary roads again. It happens if I recall any of my previous saves as well, so even uninstalling this mod didn't get them back to their previous beautiful state. Not sure exactly how getting child settlers working could have such a drastic effect, but I'm certainly messed up now.
This mod does not change any cells or world spaces, so it can't be responsible for the problem.
Anyway, if you just want to fix one specific child settler, you can always use the workaround from the description page. The mod has no effect on children in existing games, aside from giving them proper names. Their "commandable" flag is already baked in the savegame and has to be set via console.
