Don't really know why so many people claim Corvega is overly difficult in Survival mode. If you're a low level character, just clad yourself in PA, down some Psycho and Med-X, and you're done. Problem solved.

It's not just the difficulty. For me, I've made this mod as it just feels right to have USAF Olivia be the priority target for Tenpines, because those raiders are right around the corner. Corvega would also be a problem for many settlements, but it kind of feels jarring to have the Tenpines pair not really worry about the raiders not too far away. That's also why I've added Zimonja as a potential target.

I don't mind running to Corvega; there's nothing else really to do in that town, narratively speaking.

However, as I discovered on my last playthrough, there appears to be a possibility of Tenpines not being the settlement chosen for the quest. In my case, I had to run all the way to Oberland Station for this quest.

I wonder if there's a mod to be made, or possibly one that already has this feature, that ensures it locks in Tenpines as the only option for this quest.

If the game locks you into Oberland when Tenpines is still unclaimed (and the settlers are still alive), then it could be because there's an unmarked mission going on at Tenpines without you knowing.

In one of my playthroughs, I arrived at Tenpines to find the place under raider attack. If you help kill the raiders, then the settlers thank you and unlock the workbench (but it doesn't count for The First Step). But because all of this was even happening in the first place, The First Step had to skip Tenpines for Oberland.

If I were to force The First Step to select only Tenpines, then it could cause issues when the settlement is already in a mission like the above.

Do you have any idea how I can force the location for The First Step to be Tenpines instead of Oberland? No matter what I do I always get the Oberland. I also went to Tenpines and the two settlers were just chilling there and were alive and well.

I took a fairly long hiatus from FO4, and I forgot I'd installed this just before drifting to other games.
So, when I started a brand new character earlier, I was slightly (and very pleasantly) surprised to be sent to Olivia, rather than Corvega. Honestly, Corvega is SO UNBALANCED for the early game, especially on higher difficulties... it's literally 'baptism by fire.'
So, thank you very much, Olivia just makes far more sense!

what sucks about Coverga is you HAVE to take power armor cause on the way there is a high chance of a asshole with a fatman in power armor spawning

I always thought Olivia made more sense as a beginning dungeon than corvega. It’s small and fairly simple and the settlers who send you there explain what raiders are.

Aside from the excellent reasons already given by others to avoid Corvega so soon in the game, some other advantages of not going there early are consequences from other mods you might be using:

For instance, if you use the 'Raider Pet' mod, the default start seems to be at Corvega, so I think it's better not to have to clear it before that quest kicks in. 'Commonwealth Slavers' also relies heavily on Corvega and Jared.

Just pointing out that this mod has other good reasons to be used beyond the vanilla game advantages.  My thanks to 'Vergil65'!

I didn't even know that it was possible, but in a previous save Preston sent me to Dunwich Borers. But even Corvega is borderline impossible on modded survival. Thank you!

Yeah, that's how it should've been done in the first place.
I personally made it so the Tenpines settlers send you ti Zimonja with the main idea being "2 quests = 2 locations".

Btw you can also release a mod which makes it so the scribe Haylen sends you to the Fraternal Post 115 to get the first tech artifact, which is just outside the police station just like knight Rhrys's quest. Makes much more sence and saves a lot of time.

I placed USAF on top because it's more likely that they will extort the settlers at Tenpines. Sure, Zimonja might as well, but they're smaller and have their own farm anyway.

You can headcanon it that if you clear Olivia before getting The First Step, then Zimonja could be your target as they've grown bolder with Ack-Ack's crew getting weaker/killed.

I'll have to take a look at Haylen's quest to see how it works.

Yes, seems better than vanilla. But given most will have already hit Olivia either via the Abernathy quest or just in reaching Tenpines to begin with, doesn't Zimonja seem a better 1st choice for Tenpines anyway?? Then Olivia (if not cleared), then Walden, then Thicket, Corvega etc.

You can headcanon it as the USAF gang being the priority target, since they're the main ones in the area. Makes sense to put them over Boomer's little crew.

If Olivia is already cleared, maybe Boomer and friends get bolder and become more troublesome.
