Nukem has created an F4SE plugin that lets the old version of the game load the new .BA2 format files, so there is no longer a need to convert these manually. Check out Backported Archive2 Support System for a much easier way to get your old Fallout 4 mods working with the new content!
NOTE: Make sure to still create a backup of your pre-Next Gen Fallout4.exe and steam_api64.dll by copying these files somewhere BEFORE updating to the Next Gen version. Then run the update, install Nukem's mod, and copy those two files from your backup back to your game folder, overwriting the updated versions.

I have FallUI installed which puts some loose files in the Interface folder that overwrite some of the files Fallout4 - Interface.ba2 include. It is possible the newer Fallout4 - Interface.ba2 has some interface files that have been reformatted in a way only the new .EXE can't read, and if you don't have FallUI overwriting them like I do, just repacking the newer version may cause missing UI elements.
For now the best option would be to use both Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2 and Fallout4 - Interface.ba2 from the old version and repack the rest.

The base game .BA2 files added some additional files and also shuffled some other files around. I'm not sure what all the changes are for. However, since we want to keep the updated .ESM to ensure compatibility with any unofficial patches or other fixes for the next gen version, the safest bet would be to convert the listed new base game .BA2 rather than using the old ones, since logically those added files must be referenced somewhere to be included.
In theory the worst that would happen just using the old .BA2 is there might be some missing textures somewhere. However, here is a list of the additions and removals between the new .BA2 and the old versions. The ones I don't list have the same files, although there may have been changes (some have different file size) so again, the safest bet is to just convert them. .BA2 File Comparison:
This happens if you missed the part where you need to copy Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2 from the backup old version Fallout 4\Data folder to the updated Fallout 4\Data folder. Also make sure you copied the other files mentioned from the old version overwriting the newer versions, specifically GFSDK_GodraysLib.x64.dll.
Hi, Sorry for the English, I'm not very good, and I'm using a translator, I solved it by copying the Fallout 4 -interface.ba2 file from the backup data folder to the same path in the updated game. As an extra tip, copy all the files in the data folder except what you changed with the tutorial, since when the game updates it deletes many textures, for now I have not tested the game well, but it starts and there are no missing textures, good luck and I hope this helps.
I also have the same Issue as above, and I re-copied the necessary files over form my old to the updated (including what ghost99c did with the interface.ba2) just to double check I did it all..I now have menu but when I try to enter I get a never-ending loading screen, is it because im trying to load a save that was from the next-gen version?
I am using FallUI which has some loose files in the Interface folder. It is possible the newer Fallout4 - Interface.ba2 has some issues working with the 1.10.163.0 executable much as the Shaders .ba2, in which case it should be fine to use the one from your old backup instead of repacking for both of these. Using FallUI seems to avoid this problem for me, but I would have to test a vanilla setup to see what loose file from FallUI in the Interface folder is overwriting the one from the .ba2 that is causing issues.
For now the safest bet would be to use both Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2 and Fallout4 - Interface.ba2 from the old version and repack the rest.
In my case I have had no problems with the new missions, even the performance of my game is better. But a new alternative has been released to avoid doing so many steps, take a look at it.

I am having 1 problem so far I can not seem to get the enclave paint for the combat armor to work it just makes some pieces disappear and for others it does nothing. Did I mess up converting one of the files or is it mod-related?
Is that from one of the CC DLC added by the update? If so I can check it on my end. Do you know the file name of the mod this is from? Also did you convert all the listed base game .BA2 in addition to the mods, or just copy those from the old backup?
I think it is I'm not too sure I noticed it was new after I completed this process. Also, I have a peculiar bug where some of the new quantum enemies, enclave soldiers, and X-02 armor are all purple with no textures. Do you know which file is causing this so I can re-convert it?
If you copied the old .EXE file over, crashing on load indicates that some of the .BA2 listed in the instructions were not converted. The update repacks the listed .BA2 in a new format the old .EXE cannot read which is what causes the crash. Make sure you followed the instructions to convert all the listed .BA2 files and copied Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2 and Fallout4 - Interface.ba2 from your old backup.
I tried to repack everything I did download the update again forced steam to do so. Now my game doesn't even start, crashes on launch, also my backup game crashes too ...
If you have steam re-download the update it will detect the repacked .BA2 as changed and re-download them all, basically undoing all the repacking. So if you then just copied the .EXE it would have the new .BA2 again and therefor crash.
If your backup is crashing now but it wasn't before, you might have accidentally overwrote something in your backup instead of the main install folder. Just having two separate installs by itself won't cause crashes unless something else has changed.
You could try Fallout 4 Downgrader to revert your main install back to the pre-update files then copy your backup Data folder over, skipping any files from the list of official game files (listed in the instructions). That way you copy all your mods back over but not any of the game files that might have been repacked by accident while trying to repack the main game folder.
Thanks for your help, nothing seems to be working. I have downloaded the Downgrade version, I placed the files in a different folder from the downgrade, run that, same crash. Backup files same crash, main folder - updated - crash, main folder updated after downgraded same crash.
Now I'm planning to make a fresh install gonna be suck to reinstall my mods, but it is what it is.
Do you have any idea how can I make this running? Download the new version, downgrade and then install my mods and then try to repack as you did?
The game appears to load these from base game .ba2 files just fine. However any .esp or .esl mods (including CC creations) need to have the loose files for them copied. DLCRobot - Main.ba2 and the other non-CC "official" DLC are considered part of the base game and should load without needing to copy Music, Sounds, and Strings from them as loose files.
I'm not sure if this is because these base game .ba2 are loaded from .ESM files, or if just flagging mods .ESM would work if that is the case. There may be some sort of internal manifest the game reads that ensures these data types are loaded from official .ba2 files. All I know for sure is that for the CC content and other 3rd party .esp and .esl mods, the assets will not load in-game for these categories unless copied as loose files.
I do not have any of the CC mods other than the ones they give you with Next Gen. However a general rule is if they were downloaded before the Next Gen update they shouldn't need updating unless the update itself re-downloaded them. You can check the modified date in Windows Explorer and see if the .BA2 for these files show modified in April of 2024. If so they probably need converting.
The simplest way to know is that if you launch the game with the old 1.10.163.0 executable with enabled mods in the new .BA2 format, the game will simply crash instantly. If it gets to the title screen and lets you load a save, those mods do not require further action.
If you are using an older .exe than the Next Gen version in order to load F4SE mods, you absolutely have to repack all the listed .ba2 including the engine ones (with the exception of Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2 and Fallout4 - Interface.ba2 which should be copied over from the old version). That is because all of these have been repacked in a newer format that the pre-Next Gen Fallout4.exe doesn't know how to open. Without repacking the game will simply crash.
If you are just trying to get the DLC working on an old version then you should be able to convert just the .ba2 for those DLC and copy the result to your old Gog version without converting the new engine .ba2. The Next Gen update does add some files to the engine .ba2 mentioned but I don't think they are related to the CC content which should be self-contained.

As an extra tip, copy all the files in the data folder except what you changed with the tutorial, since when the game updates it deletes many textures, for now I have not tested the game well, but it starts and there are no missing textures, good luck and I hope this helps.
I also have the same Issue as above, and I re-copied the necessary files over form my old to the updated (including what ghost99c did with the interface.ba2) just to double check I did it all..I now have menu but when I try to enter I get a never-ending loading screen, is it because im trying to load a save that was from the next-gen version?
For now the safest bet would be to use both Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2 and Fallout4 - Interface.ba2 from the old version and repack the rest.

I am having 1 problem so far I can not seem to get the enclave paint for the combat armor to work it just makes some pieces disappear and for others it does nothing. Did I mess up converting one of the files or is it mod-related?
If your backup is crashing now but it wasn't before, you might have accidentally overwrote something in your backup instead of the main install folder. Just having two separate installs by itself won't cause crashes unless something else has changed.
You could try Fallout 4 Downgrader to revert your main install back to the pre-update files then copy your backup Data folder over, skipping any files from the list of official game files (listed in the instructions). That way you copy all your mods back over but not any of the game files that might have been repacked by accident while trying to repack the main game folder.
Now I'm planning to make a fresh install gonna be suck to reinstall my mods, but it is what it is.
Do you have any idea how can I make this running? Download the new version, downgrade and then install my mods and then try to repack as you did?
Also If I have other CC content too like paintjobs not listed on the list, do I have to do the same repacking process as well, or not?

I'm not sure if this is because these base game .ba2 are loaded from .ESM files, or if just flagging mods .ESM would work if that is the case. There may be some sort of internal manifest the game reads that ensures these data types are loaded from official .ba2 files. All I know for sure is that for the CC content and other 3rd party .esp and .esl mods, the assets will not load in-game for these categories unless copied as loose files.

The simplest way to know is that if you launch the game with the old 1.10.163.0 executable with enabled mods in the new .BA2 format, the game will simply crash instantly. If it gets to the title screen and lets you load a save, those mods do not require further action.
