   As they awoke the sole survivor realised that their previous life, the one is the gracious and beautiful suburbs was a lie. In actuality running to the vault was really them escaping an institute run asylum for people they kidnapped. The true memories of what happened in the asylum (that had been previously blocked by the fake happy memories) drove the sole survivor insane.
   This is how they are now, on a murderous rampage in their only clothing.
