tells me the installation for darklab and the mod loader.ini have failed and to notify the author. i see a comment from august last year having the same issue. rip mod i guess
It's a depreciated method of patching the game's VBF archive. The External File Loader and Lua Loader replaced it. To make things even easier, you can use Vortex with the FFXII extension which prompts you to download and install the EFL and LL. Once Vortex is set up, you can download mods using the 'Mod Manager Download' button on Nexus Mods and things are handled automatically. The bonus with using the newer method is that the original game files are left untouched as the mod files are loaded separately. It's also backwards compatible with mods that were originally made for Draklab.
guys need some help, i didnt play in quite some time so since there are some updates and i try to install mods i get a "error loading the mod. check the log" i not sure what to do
My apologies, but when I try to open Draklabs, I get an error message saying: "ffgriever's tools are missing. Exiting..." Which is fair because I've never heard of FFgriever's tools. But did I do something wrong?
I tried opening as Admin and I put it on my desktop.
Hello I recently bought the game, and I wanted to add mods. I added 12 mods, all checked then applied changes but then nothing happens in game. I'm playing with french version, is it because of the langage ?
I saw a mod that dropped support for DrakLab due to it being out of date. That doesn't make a lot of sense to be since this seems like a simple injector. Could someone explain the issue to me?
It's not just because it's out of date, but rather because it's inferior to the Vortex extension in every single way. This mod even includes an outdated version of the ff12-vbf.exe which in rare cases can mess up the big gamefiles archive (.VBF) and therefore force you to redownload the whole game all over again.
The go-to method to install mods right now is:
If you used Draklab before, verifiy your games files via Steam.
This only needs to be done once and after that, every mod can be installed either with the Mods side bar of Vortex or by selecting the Mod Manager Download button in the files tab of a mod. Uninstallation works with a single click and your game files will also always remain untouched. It's simply the most painless and easy way to manage mods as of right now. So I highely recommend everyone to use it instead of Draklab.
As for why I don't just use Vortex: I can't. Not easily at least. FF12 runs great on Linux. DrakLab runs great on Linux. Vortex, on the other hand, is a hot mess. I realize this isn't a problem for 99% of users, but it is for me. I'm glad to hear that I can still use the archaic DrakLab.
Well in that case it's definitely still useful. Although, I would recommend you to update the ff12-vbf.exe of this mod by the one included in the Vortex extension. It resolves a rare issue where the VBF could become corrupted when replacing files. There was also someone in the modding discord who managed to get the external file loader working on Linux. I am not sure of it's current state, but feel free to contact them if you are interested in it.
Thanks for the advice, I have the game from windows store because it's free on gamepass but vortex won't recognize the install folder as correct. Any advice?
As far as I know, only a handful of games on the windows store support mods. Usually, you do not even have access to the game files, so I doubt that the windows store version of FFXII is moddable at all.
