This s#*! is amazing!!! Thank you so much for this.
I can finally play the game with Labreau/Gadot/Jill etc like i always dreamed of!
You rock @GreenThumb2 !!
I did have two questions though~
1) Is it possible to replace the models used in cutscenes to say show labreau instead of lightning or is that not possible?
2) how difficult was it getting these alternate models running? Id love it if there was a few more options for Vanille & Hope. Im guessing it has to do with the character height and model mesh but I have no idea ive only modded ps1 final fantasy games lol.
#1 - depends on the cutscene. Many are pre-rendered and are only played as videos so these can't be changed. Others are generated using the in-game engine. The second type will use the new model... mostly. There are two in-game models for each of the main characters. A "cutscene" higher quality one that is sometimes used in in-game cutscenes (not always) and a lower quality model that is used for general gameplay. The alternate models usually only update the lower quality one so some in-game cutscenes will still revert back to the original character when the HQ (cutscene) model is used. These could be updated to the modified model (and a couple of them are - I think Lebreau is one IIRC)
#2 - Easier now than it was as I some tools to automate the process more. As you guessed, the selection of what model to use is mostly based on character height. It appears that the hips are at a fixed distance from the ground so shorter characters' feet will not touch the ground and taller characters will walk/run with their knees bent. But it is possible to substitute virtually any character. However the farther they are from the original, the more distortion you will see in the movements (besides the knees)
Ahhh right on thats nice to know! Thanks for responding to me.
I havent really played that much yet just past where you play as snow and "Moms are tough" scene Just messed around a bit with Jihl swap then went to Labreau so not sure if they're the same or different scene model wise.
I wish there was a female option for Sazh but ngl Gadot seems extreamly fitting in his role for me lol.
Is there any possibility that the Shiva sisters would be compatible with any models? I always thought they would be awesome to play as but im guessing they might not have the required animations to actually work.
Either way you rock dude!
I kinda wish there was a similar mod for ALL the 3d final fantasies now tbh xD. Would be so rad changing the Yuna to Seymour in X or wandering the world as Larsa/Gabranth in XII
The NC versions only have one model and the model chosen is the highest quality one with the greatest compatibility with the game animation. For example, Lighting is the "ultimate model" with the normal hair so that the model is the best quality and the hair is animated at all times. The HQ hair sometimes wouldn't be animated correctly in cutscenes due to a different rigging.
It could be. It depends on if you have access to the game files. From what little I know about the Steam Deck and Proton (I don't own one), it probably uses the standard Windows game files. If so, you could probably modify one on a PC then copy it over to the Steam Deck if that's allowed. Being Linux, you wouldn't be able to modify the files directly on the deck as there are no tools available for that.
To give a little more detail to my previous reply. If you have access to the game files on the steam deck you could try the following:
- Install the game from Steam to a PC. It doesn't have to be capable of running the game, you will just be using it to modify files. - Check the file size between the Steam deck and the PC for the following two files to see if they appear to be identical files. FINAL FANTASY XIII\white_data\sys\white_scru.win32.bin FINAL FANTASY XIII\white_data\sys\filelist_scru.win32.bin - Download and run this mod on the PC. It only makes changes to the above two files (and the _scrc ones for Japanese language). - Copy and overwrite the two files on the Steam deck with the updated ones from the PC (_scru is the English version, _scrc is the Japanese one)
Try the game on the steam deck and see if it works.
I can confirm GreenThumb2 works. So I applied the mod on my PC and then copied to the files to my steam deck and it runs fine. (I do think some shaders need to be recompiled with the new models or something. But after an hour of playing it looks awesome)
I installed this on PC and moved the files over to my Steam Deck. I'm partway through my first playthrough playing almost entirely on the Deck - happy to report I was getting consistent 50-60fps just now running around the Archylte Steppe (I also have the FF13 fix mod installed on the deck).
Love the HD models, everyone looks awesome in game. Thanks a million for this mod and thanks Greenthumb2 for the Steam Deck comments
So just install this wherever, run the .bat, and it will add/replace files into the right folders automatically? Can I delete the source folder where I dragged the contents originally?
When I try to add these using Nova, it says "Original pc\c206\bin\c206 model (.trb and .imgb) not found or not in original format. Game must be unpacked using Nova before running this mod." but I have unpacked it
